Just realised I've been living with a notched Mac for a long time 😂 /S
Doesn’t that laptop have a weird camera angle?Having thin edges is nice, but not having a notch. Seriously Apple cannot make it better than Huawei on a 3yo machine ?
The purpose of having the notch is to house the camera… thought that was pretty obvious. For developers it’s no big deal. All you need to do is check that if your app is in full screen mode, there isn’t anything hiding under the notch. I suspect most developers will implement it pretty quickly. Been doing it with iPhones for years already.Incorrect. I currently use a 2015 15” and have been waiting all year long for Apple to announce these so I can finally upgrade. Get your head out of Apple’s rear.
Again, if you need to go through the trouble of hiding the notch, what’s the purpose of even having it in the first place? It’s just one more unnecessary thing for developers to have to worry about when making apps.
Not best, right, but it’s a fine trade-off for me.Doesn’t that laptop have a weird camera angle?
The benefit is you have a camera in the normal spot. Take a look at most thin bezel laptops and they put the camera below the screen. If you’ve ever been on a zoom call with one of these people first of all, you’re staring directly up their nostrils, and second, when they type it’s like there are 8 foot tall fingers attacking them. But no you’re right there’s no benefit to the notch at all…I wonder how many people here are on drugs. The notch is certainly not great. Someone could argue about having thinner bezels, but the question is if it's worth the cost. For me it's not. There is no benefit at all. At least on the iPhone we get Face ID. I do not hate the notch but I find it a totally unnecessary compromise.
I am sorry but the camera on my M1 13" MBP is also on the right place, so I repeat my question, what is the real benefit of the notch? There will be people that prefer thinner bezels. I love them too, but I want them without any compromise. The thing is that technology is not that good and the notch is a compromise for as long as the technology is not there. I prefer to have bigger bezels than a notch. The benefit is you have a camera in the normal spot. Take a look at most thin bezel laptops and they put the camera below the screen. Would would be their motivation to unnecessarily put a notch into the MB?The iPhone notch mostly fits within the MacBook's newly thin bezels. The iPhone has had 1080p front-facing video for years, and it has even MORE sensors packed into that small area.
Don't let Apple gaslight you into believing the notch was necessary here. It was not. In a few years, they will shrink it by 20% and call it a "Revolutionary" achievement.
Where's the camera on that? And how do you get MacOS on that computer?Having thin edges is nice, but not having a notch. Seriously Apple cannot make it better than Huawei on a 3yo machine ?
The physical size of the 14” is barely larger than your 13”, but has more screen real estate.I am sorry but the camera on my M1 13" MBP is also on the right place, so I repeat my question, what is the real benefit of the notch? In full-screen mode the extra "real estate" disappears, effectively making it pointless. Those who have a need for the power understand the basics of screen real estate and that this is a positive over the outgoing model.
Took them four years to shrink the notch 20%in a year or 2, you’ll see the notch shrink as soon as they can. We’ve seen them shrink the notch on the iPhone. This is no different.

That is the problem. Apple is giving people what they want these days. Where is the Apple that knew what is right and what wrong? The physical size of the 14” is barely larger than your 13”, but has more screen real estate.
Also, there’s been a large amount of people wanting smaller bezels. Apple gave the masses what they want. The notch is a small price to pay for it.

It’s all down to the technology being available. There’s only so much that can be done.Took them four years to shrink the notch 20%
Only for apps that haven’t implemented it yet. They go into a compatibility mode. That should change pretty quickly as developers add support for the notch. In full-screen mode the extra "real estate" disappears, effectively making it pointless.
Wrong….In full-screen mode the extra "real estate" disappears, effectively making it pointless.

Sounds like a lot of avoidable messing around for very little payoff.Only for apps that haven’t implemented it yet. They go into a compatibility mode. That should change pretty quickly as developers add support for the notch.
For devolopers it’s just a matter of making sure nothing is blocked by the notch then setting an item in the info.plist to disable that compatibility mode. It’s not much work so for most apps it should be rolled out quickly.
Did they though? They made it taller. The physical size of the 14” is barely larger than your 13”, but has more screen real estate.

...and then make it taller (while making it more narrow, as you say).Took them four years to shrink the notch 20%
Because they did to add extra vertical space to the display.I just don’t get why they did the notch without FaceID …
