I have a 55” Sony 4K OLED, doesn't have VRR but it’ll do 60FPS at 4K and I can sit about 2 meters away when playing games, according to some then I would see a difference with PS5 Pro?
Yeah definitely for sure. Like Jedi survivor looks blurry and choppy on the base ps5 performance mode even on my newer Sony OLED which I hooked up the older PS5 to for testing purposes.

I go into my bedroom which has the Pro hooked up to the older Panasonic OLED tv, and the clarity and smoothness is still very obvious.

I have a 10 year old Panasonic 55in OLED tv with no VRR and no 120hz refresh rate, and the pro still looks ridiculously gorgeous on it lol.

I have a newer Sony 65 inch OLED with VRR and 120hz refresh rate in my living room, I can tell that motion is definitely smoother, but switching the Pro over to my bedroom on this older TV still showcases the power of the pro.

Actually, I'm more in awe with God of War. I've never seen it look so good before. It's a PS4 game that doesn't look out of place in the PS5 world now, lol.

I have to try other games like The Order:1886 and Uncharted 4.

One thing i'm pissed about is how scarce the damn disc drives are. I still can't get my hands on one. I made a downpayment for 1 at the official sony store, and they say it's only going to come in end of December.
My wallet is very annoyed with this post. :)

I don't even play my normal PS5 that much (launch version), yet I'm still considering the Pro! lol

Performance mode in the original ps5 wasn't even that bad to begin with.

I was using it to play Black myth wukong and was happy with it. That is until I bought the PC version and played it in max settings. Hahaha. Then bam, the vast difference in quality hit me like a ton of bricks.
You can't miss what you have never had. Therefore you can't miss native 4k PC performance. Although many games look good on the base PS5 and the Series X, there were titles for which performance mode looks so poor that that could barely call it an improvement on PS4 with chequerboarding. For me Hellbalde performance mode is that nudged me over to buy a PC.

so the ultimate way to game is have a really sexy SFF PC hooked up to your Big ass home tv and use like a PS5? haha

I don't think my 4070 super ti would do 4k gaming at max settings very well. May have to upgrade to 5090 next year.

I have a thor zone Nano Q case coming in december that i'm gonna build the ultimate SFF in, haha.

It looks almost Apple-like

I still think that consoles are plenty good for popular titles like COD, Valorant, FIFA and Madden. For fps games you will be too busy to romanticise about fog lighting and shadow sharpness of objects that are not in frame. Except for much higher frame rate, a PC does not offer a much more visual experience. These games tend to be optimised for the lowest common denominator.

It's for single player titles, especially eye candy ones where the difference between PC and console is huge. I have a 4070ti super that I exclusively play on my LG C1. I average 4k 70-120fps at high-ultra settings at DLSS Balanced with Frame Gen, depending on game. However PSSR is a big step towards narrowing the gap between consoles and mid range PCs.

in 18-24 months we will likely see titles that are highly optimised for the PS5 Pro and look awesome. I will eventually buy one to play a back catalogue of awesome PS4 titles with improved visuals.

Mine isn’t. When booted up and in the menu I can’t hear it but once a game is started I do. Still not as loud as my PS4 but still a bit disappointing.
Apparently it is a bit of lottery depending which manufacturer made the fan.

That is enough to keep me put off getting a Pro, my OG PS5 is totally silent bar the disk drive. And I am extremely happy for that as my PS4 Pro was like Concorde taking off in my room! It drove me mad. Never ever going back to a noisy Sony console. It's frankly ridiculous Sony accepts this with the PS5. Every single Xbox is silent no mater the fan.

My ps5 pro runs silent as a whisper.

I don't hear anything at all.

My ps4 pro on the other hand was like a vacuum cleaner

As an aside it looks like Sony may be trying to buy FromSoftware's parent company.
This is the play book for Sony and MS:

Stuggle to developer new IP in-house.
-Aquire studios with great IP.
-Lay off 30-60% of staff.
-Drain enthusiasm or will to live from the staff that's left.
-Milk the IP for re-masters, micro transations or avaiability on more platforms.

To be fair Sony already owns 15-20% of FromSoftware so this isn't widely out of left field.

The days of whimsical games coming out of Sony/MS have been over since the PS3/XB360 days. They are going with "safe" big bets (and a lot of time missing the mark).

They are making big bets because today, in gaming, the power law apply. The biggest games become bigger than initially imagined and end up absorbing a considerable amount of players' time.

Look at Roblox, it now has games within games. It even has clip it which is probably top 5 for daily active users as a video platform. Attention is a zero sum game. It's becoming harder to convince 1 person to play your game instead of 3 other titles that their friends play and chat about on social media.

Elden Ring has huge potential because it's being played by Elon Musk and it has spectator potential for E-Sports.

First "negative" review for the PS5 Pro. Like I have said before, whether it's worth it or not will entirely depend on how well it's optimised for the games that YOU play.

I saw Digital Foundry also ripped the PA5 Pro apart for its Jedi Survivor performance, they said it really didn’t look good.

Sony cannot rely on third party’s patching there games for the Pro PSSR to perfection. I don’t think Nvidia does with its DLSS, AMD don’t and hence why the game looks better on OG OS5 with AMD FSR I assume running it. If Sony wants its AI upscaling tech to work, it needs to be more flexible and work with the majority of games. Otherwise the PS6 will have the same issues as it will no doubt be based on this tech.

If the Switch 2 has DLSS it’ll be very interesting to see how it handles these games.

DLL swapping is common when developers decide to use an older DLSS version.

EA has acknowledged there is an issue and they claim to be looking into it. I'm not sure if PSSR is closer to DLSS 1, where the "NN" needs to be trained on every game type, or more like DLSS 2.0+ where it is "smart" and can use the motion vectors for TAA to perform it's upscaling.

The poor image quality seems like it is a 1.0 type issue, but I would expect most games to have problems instead of the handful reported so far.

Guys, I’ve seen the PS5 slim (no disk) at just 370€… do you think it will get even cheaper? Should I wait to see if the PS5 Pro gets some discounts in January? Here the Pro is 800€, so more than double the PS5 slim sale price.

This is such BS. I trust my own eyes when i compared between Jedi survivor on my fat PS5 and my new ps5 pro.

Such a world of difference.

These digital foundry guys are full of ****. They are basically just nick picking on the super small details.

Like i said, i trust my own eyes.

If you are unsure whether to buy the Pro, you probably won't benefit from having one.

That's a brilliant price for a Slim. Less than half the price of the Pro. It's unlikely that Sony will discount the Pro by much, especially as the release window for GTA6 nears.

What do you notice that's different between the two consoles? I just grabbed the game on sale and Lies Of P.
I had Star Wars in my Series X and was enjoying it before I sold the console, time to get back into the game.

the image quality is much crisper, like the resolution has increased. Motion is also smoother on the pro

Another consideration is that a 45% increase in raw graphical horse power won't translate to 45% improvement in games. Furthermore games are programmed differently. As a result in one game, the improvement might be 35% and in others just 20%.

This is important for managing expectations of the Pro as a console, not as a PC alternative. For example CDPR have said that they won't patch Cyberpunk for PS5.

Meanwhile a PC user upgrading from a 4060 to a 4070ti Super would experience an instant generational uplift in visual fidelity and frame rate.
