Right right, because none of that is possible on the current MBPs, right? Hey, if you want to have the latest and greatest, more power to you. But I find it laughable all the kids here saying they run a "business" that will just up and switch to a Wintendo platform just because Apple is late with a product refresh.

All of that is possible with my 2.5 year old white macbook (FCP needs some hacking to work without dedicated GPU but it's doable). It's painful, but it works. Shame on me for not wanting to upgrade to a CPU that is nearly 4 years old. Of course I'm not going to jump ship, because I can afford to wait. However, if my macbook blew up tomorrow I'd be in a very difficult position.

im in a weird situation

On the one hand, I can't get the money I would like to get the new MBP until the 25th, only have about 1700 I could spend before tax. So I'm glad I'm not behind and everyone else is basking in the glory of their shiny new MBP while i wait.

On the other hand, I don't want to still be waiting ;/

Meanwhile, I continue to be not only happy, but blown away by the performance of my 2-month old MacBook Pro C2D 3.06Ghz with 8GB of RAM. Not everyone is waiting for this refresh with bated breath. This computer replaced a 4.5 year old Powerbook G4. I expect it to last as long, too.

If I were Apple, I wouldn't release new hardware this week. The production line in China is significantly reduced this time of the year (Chinese New Year this past Sunday).

It's common for workers to be a week or two off during Spring festival (Chinese new year) so they can go visit home (some travel for days to get home). This is commonly the lowest productivity point of the year (aside from Golden week later in the year).

If Apple release new hardware this week, they are unlikely to fulfill initial demand. Better let stock level build up first. This is assuming that the R&D + testing is finished for the product.

Well... Not to burst anyone's bubble but I work inventory in BBY and there are a TON of "Apple Dummy SKUs" in that system. I was actually looking at these after the iPad announcement to see if anything was already in the system yet but there wasnt. I will say that this is a "new" dummy sku (starts with a 9, the ones I found were years old ranging from low 7s to high 8s). The hard part is finding what dummy skus translate into actual products because they dont seem to edit the sku information to reflect the new product they just make new ones. These dummy skus also don't have a real price on them (they're all multiple thousands of dollars eg. $99999.99 so you cant actually tie them to a product. Im not saying this couldnt be a new Macbook but it really could be anything... Or nothing at all.

Considering the alternative, that most PC manufacturers sell hardware that is obsolete by the time it's received and unboxed, I'm perfectly content with Apple offerings right now. You guys sound like a bunch of puppies chasing your tails. It's a processor upgrade. In a mobile computer. Unless you're one of those types that tend to enjoy sitting around touching yourself whilst watching a benchmark screen, you'll likely not notice a difference. I, for one, and rather hesitant for the refresh, depending on what's in store for the 13" model. Depending on what sort of graphics capability is in the refreshed model, I'll probably just be buying the current gen anyways.

You're kidding, right? Have you used an i7 or i5 yet? Sure, if all you do is browse the web and open PDFs, then yeah.

There is noticable lag in gvim on my girlfriends 13" MBP that I bought in December versus the Turion in my laptop for christ sakes. I won't compare it to my i7 desktop, because that's just not even fair.

Yes, I am speaking for myself and a large portion of the AAPL shareholders who are laughing all the way to the bank, not the ones who are griping about a time when Apple was operating under a different management team and CEO.

I remember those times you do and even times farther back. There is no indication that Apple is ignoring history.

"as an AAPLE shareholder blah blah blah".

I'm an Apple Rep. ;)

The official news from Apple in the coming year is:

March 2, 2010: Refresh of MacBooks. Don't buy one before this date.

March 23, 2010: iPads released.

April 20, 2010: iPads with 3G support released. A front facing camera will be included as a surprise. iPhone OS 4.0 will also be included on these. The iPads without 3G support will not be upgradable to 4.0. This new version of the software will allow video conferencing and VOIP.

May 25, 2010: The prices of the iPad 3Gs will be reduced 50%. We're going to screw the people who bought iPad 3Gs in the first month.

June 28, 2010: iPhone 4 released. iPhone OS 4.0 released for the new iPhone 4. Lots of great features like VOIP, video conferencing with a new front-facing camera. Don't think about buying an old iPhone 3G before this date.

July 20, 2010: iPhone 4V released. Will work on the Verizon network. The losers who bought an iPhone 4 which worked on AT&T's network are screwed.

August 2, 2010: Back to school program announced. Buy a MacBook for school and get a free iPad 3G.

August 24, 2010: iPhone 4 VOIP released. Still $199, but no contract necessary. Sad for those in AT&T and Verizon contracts. Very sad.

September 7, 2010: Back to school program ends. We announce new upgraded MacBooks with a touchscreen that runs all iPad apps. The new Macbook prices are all 50% below the current prices. Screw you, back to school program buyers!

Should we have announced all this just now?

If this is fake, the moderators are getting really pissed off and have created threads stating fake disinformation will get you banned.

I agree

I still don't understand how they are going to fit an i7 into the 15 inch. HP tried it and the outcome was uncomfortably hot + no battery life with their Envy 15.

(and they scrapped the optical drive + had a boatload of ventilation [3 different fans!!])

Maybe we will only see i5 ;/

Apple said 60 days on January 27th, so wouldn't March 14th be a bit early? lol

Yea but too bad 60 days is a Sunday. Apple only releases products on Tuesdays and Fridays. Either they will wait until March 30 to release the iPad or release it early on March 26.

Apple only releases products on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Actually Apple can do whatever they wish and release products on any other day of the week if they choose so. Just because their past track record indicates most new product activity on Tues/Fri doesnt mean that Apple only releases on those days.

When Leo Laporte buys a MacBook Pro, you know an update will come that day, if not sooner. :D

Help me find the Batman and Robin Cartoons

Could someone PM me with the link to the hilarious Batman and Robin Cartoons that were in an old thread about the Macbook updates? Or at least reply with a new Cartoon update. They were so funny!:)

I also work at BB and when we have sku's that are on "Ad Hold/or not to be released" when you ring them up in POS or look them up in our inventory system they ring up as a high price so we know not to sell them.... Also in response to the other "DUMMY SKU'S" its possible that we might be seeing some new iTouches coming out. Since we have had limited inventory in the iTouches for the past couple weeks and we've gone from several hundred to a handful (which is what we normally see from apple when there about to realease new stuff), but that is complete speculation... Further more I have been doing some checking with a fellow MGR who is Mac Crazy and we found out that Best Buy MACBook skus have been deleted from our system and the remaining skus will go clearence in the next week or so, I hate to add to the rumor mill but I guess we will have to wait and see... Pretty excited to get my first mac "FINALLY" regarless of what happens

But bro, you just spent $3,000 dollars on something that if you buy again in a month or so, will have literally almost double the performance (for probably less) and who knows what else included you can't get like Blu-Ray or a 500 GB SSD?

Or just get the same performance for about 1900, and use the extra 1000, for, idk, a TV to plug into?? something?
Just because Mac's are over priced doesn't mean you should just waste money proving you can afford it.

As I previously posted, there are no increases in CPU frequency, and Apple may even be forced to go backward on frequency in a couple of cases or omit the highest frequency currently available. Even though these CPUs will be faster, on paper to the general public there is no difference.

Right. According to those logics, Apple would be selling machines with Pentium IV CPUs. I think parts of the "general public" are aware of the fact that clock frequency is not a good measure for computational speed anymore. Other parts of the general public don't even read the spec sheet. If there's a glowing apple on the back, it must be fast. Also, el jobso said it is.

Call it coincidence or whatever you like but a few weeks ago, I phoned a local store (JB HIFI chain in Australia) to see if they could price match an offer I found. Now here is the interesting part:

They said that they were out of stock of all 13" MBPs and they would have a shipment come in on the 14th of March.

We can only hope this is true!! :D

I hope not! 3 Weeks earlier would be more like it!

Well if my math and memory serves me right, there are 3 ipad memory sizes (16gb, 32gb, 64gb flash drive). There are also 2 types of iPads (Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi + 3G). There are also iPad accessories from Apple (iPad Keyboard Dock, iPad Case, iPad Dock, iPad Camera Connection Kit, iPad 10W USB Power Adapter). In my calculation, this tallys up to (2*3) + 5 = 11 possible new skus.

My birthday is a week before, so I'm OK with that date :)
