Yeah right, Molly Sue (assuming she's the usual average customer) is going to go into BB and say, "Oh the MBP's don't have an i5 processor?". The average customer, which represents the majority of the computing world doesn't give a rats behind about the CPU of the computer they are buying. Most of them don't even know what a CPU is or how it works.

In other words, you are happy with current Apple offerings. Right?

It seems as a lot of people argue that because the general public is unaware of the dated technology, it is still ok to charge the very high prices ofr old tech. I am all for buyer beware, but that seems to be taking advantage of the uninformed. I am sure I am in the minority on this.

I have to agree with this. I wouldn't mind taking the current version if they were ($500 ?) cheaper. You can get an i7 laptop with 8gb ram and SSD for $1300. The beauty, construction, and software hardly makes up for the extra $800 at this point.

Patiently waiting.

Dear AAPL shareholder,

Please keep laughing while we are too busy buying modern laptops from HP, DELL etc.

Regards,
Comsumer
Have at it. I'm a MSFT shareholder too. Don't own any DELL or HPQ. Dell's five-year stock performance is a dog. Hewlett-Packard is pretty good. MSFT tracked the S&P 500 for about four years then picked up a little steam the past twelve months.

In front of the consumers that have been handing them record quarters in a recession, or in front of consumers who are already putting Apple on track for record sales this quarter?

https://www.macrumors.com/2010/02/16/npd-strong-mac-and-ipod-sales-in-march-quarter-so-far/

Or do they only look like fools on Mac forums, which is about as meaningful as a pair of thermal underwear in Death Valley at high noon.

They're losing money even though consumers are buying at an excellent rate (according to the latest NPD numbers)? Better call Tim Cook and tell him the bad news! LOL

Its already been shown that Windows 7 has had no effect on Mac sales. The only problem for Apple is figuring out how to spend all that extra cash on hand. Apple has the Premium end locked, with MS locked out of it.

As for Winblows sales, everything looks impressive after Vista.

It's hundreds of millions of PC users waiting for the Vista nightmare to be over. What did you expect? Poor sales of Windows 7?? What are the alternatives offered by MS? XP and Vista. One is an 8+ year old dog of an OS, the other is a massive flop. That's hundreds of millions of PC users dying for an upgrade after years of getting the shaft. And Apple's Premium end of the market has natural barriers to entry, starting with the $1000 minimum fee. Apple doesn't compete in the market segments occupied mostly by MS. Of course, Apple is now transitioning away from the traditional desktop computer + desktop OS paradigm.

PC users outnumber all others, and always have, whether MS released a good OS or a lousy one - PCs are cheap and now more disposable than ever (netbooks.) The bottom of the retail pyramid is always the widest. The biggest computer-using segment uses PCs. Now throw in an OS that fixes Vista and by sheer force of numbers alone (volume) you'll have a great quarter.

There's no miracle here. Just the massive number of PC users who suffered for years, now jumping at the chance to upgrade. It's nothing new, miraculous or groundbreaking. BUT . . . MS *did* release a Windows that lives up to their expectations, and they deserve all the credit in the world for that. It's a shame that it took this long, though. Right now, Windows is really all MS has going for it in the consumer market. And I think it will be enough to help MS ride out the difficulties they're experiencing in their other consumer-oriented ventures. It should allow them some breathing room to develop their mobile segment and give investors a good reason to maintain their confidence.

It makes no difference whether any one version of Windows succeeds or fails. PC users, by virtue of the low cost of entry into the PC market alone, will always outnumber users of all other platforms. Windows will always sell well, in whatever form, because it can run on the cheapest hardware - and this is what you find the most of. But now, we're seeing highly concentrated sales of a particular version (good news) because everyone was waiting to upgrade and end the XP/Vista pain, which lasted far, far too long.

True, they could have released Windows Blow, and it would have sold out. But the bigger point is that they released something people were dying for, and they actually nailed it. I would say that Windows 7 is going to save many from converting to Mac. Yes they are cheaper, and more powerful for the price, another reason your right, PC dominates the market.

It would be silly to try and guess what the market share of Apple will be in the PC market in 20 years, for all we know it could be 30% of PC's ship with ubuntu 15.

In the business world, MS will always dominate (at least in the near future)
Video production, editing etc, Mac is the King.

I work at a video production studio, we just got a grant for 1.1 million dollars for equipment. We are purchasing a 36 station 27 inch i7 iMac lab, and 20 new MBP's on top of the 10 we have now.

And I'm installing 7 on every one of them :)

Especially since it's bunk. Apple can't sit on a 8 month old refresh forever. The general public might not know about specs, but they sure will ask someone who does what they should buy.

And if someone asks me today, I'd say "buy something else". Arrandale was released in January. Sales performance from before then is irrelevant.

Considering the alternative, that most PC manufacturers sell hardware that is obsolete by the time it's received and unboxed, I'm perfectly content with Apple offerings right now. You guys sound like a bunch of puppies chasing your tails. It's a processor upgrade. In a mobile computer. Unless you're one of those types that tend to enjoy sitting around touching yourself whilst watching a benchmark screen, you'll likely not notice a difference. I, for one, and rather hesitant for the refresh, depending on what's in store for the 13" model. Depending on what sort of graphics capability is in the refreshed model, I'll probably just be buying the current gen anyways.

Well...

I've resigned myself to waiting because i want the latest and greatest tech.

unfortunately, for those people who need a laptop immediately, they have to deal with a terrible conundrum:

Go with the latest and greatest Windows tech or buy a used MBP.

I certainly wouldn't pay for a new MBP between now and the refresh. I'd be too angry when the new models were eventually released. :(

It s CPU update. It should also be GPU update, USB (3) update, optical drive (BluRay) update. Perhaps screen update (RGB LEDs). Current MacPros are outdated not just because of CPU.

Yes, PC owners unpack their i3/i5/i7 based laptops with latest GPUs from ATI, BluRay, HDMI, RGB LEDs, USB 3 then look at their buddies with C2D/outdated GPU/DVD/no HDMI/ white LED lit/USB 2 MacPros and get severe case of buyers remorse. Or do they?

Well I got desperate and have resorted to getting psychic readings and numerology to find out the date. So far all I got was a bunch of crap

You entered: macbook pro two thousand ten release date

Not sure. I don't typically sit around with my "buddies" comparing the hardware specs of my laptop to theres. I judge it more on what I can do with it. Although chances are, all that awesome hardware will be packed into a ****** case with crappy drivers put out by OEMS that have filled their systems with bloatware.

More power to you though if that's the sort of conversations you're into though.

*edit*

Did a quick search. What laptops are you referring to that actually ship with the hardware specs you've described?

Unless you do anything in Final Cut Studio. Or perform application development that requires running Windows and Linux in VMWare. Or play modern 3D games. In other words, if you are a retard who buys Macbook Pro for web browsing and emails then you won't notice the difference. Yep, I think you nailed it. Bravo.

The new MBP line will be here when they get here. These waiting threads are nothing but a bunch of people blowing smoke and threatening to go back to a PC which is s threat they will never carry out. They act like they've invested in absolutely no Mac software and they couldn't care one way or the other if they use OS X or Windows. I call BS on this one. If you are true Mac user you will have Mac software that invested in and some that's not on Windows. So to all the people who are dropping these idol threats about getting pissed waiting for Apple and threatening to move on to PC, I say, do it now, why wait? There are a few Core i models right now on the market. :p

Best post in a very long time. Exactly what I think.

Honestly i could care less about the CPU, that will just be a nice bonus, I want a new GPU.

9600m gt is what 800 dollar PC laptops have thrown in them. good card, but about 3 years ago.

a 5 series ATI GPU will allow mac to finally take over the gaming world!!!!!!

or at least pull a whole new market.

Right right, because none of that is possible on the current MBPs, right? Hey, if you want to have the latest and greatest, more power to you. But I find it laughable all the kids here saying they run a "business" that will just up and switch to a Wintendo platform just because Apple is late with a product refresh.

Some of them actually think Apple employees are reading these threads and will jump into action, for fear they'll lose the 0.00001% Apple forums crowd customers.

I don't know whether to say I am disappointed or not but it truly sucks. I have a feeling Apple doesn't even have new MacBook Pros ready, the rumors are so vague and no images nor actual references to the actual improvements have been posted.

What about the GeekBench scores for an MBP core i7?

Guys, best indicator of an update is if my aunt buys an MBP. Whenever she buys anything, it gets updated/replaced within 2 weeks. Totally accurate.

So why haven't you made her buy one yet?! Seriously, she could have bought one two weeks ago and we'd all be getting sleep at night. :)

core i7 and i5 are guaranteed to come but when is another matter. This could be down to the intel/nvidia issues and maybe about getting ATi back on board

Seriously, if you don't like it, no one is forcing you to read these threads.

And this thread isn't this. This is a speculation about new SKUs at BB. So you're actually the one blowing smoke about switching to PCs here.

The rest of us are interested for signs of the refresh and want to read these threads.

+1
Some of us may be preparing to buy our first Mac and find this information very helpful.

Well of course it is going to take a few days for retail outlets that are not Apple stores to get newly released computers in stock. Why is there even any speculation as to why Best Buy received the new MacBooks on the 31st when the update was on the 27th? Unless Apple has a magical teleportation device it is going to take a few days for the trucks to get there.
