jobs once
insisted that this year's new
products will bring apple to the next level.

Plus major CPU changes might require redisgn?

To achieve that, gotta get the fresh look on mbp.

I hope we get the physical mouse bottons back! ;(

Great, just when I was going to cave and get a MB, you have to go and post this. Thanks!

core i7 and i5 are guaranteed to come but when is another matter. This could be down to the intel/nvidia issues and maybe about getting ATi back on board

I totally agree and that probably is a delicate matter that can not be rushed by Apple.
They are just not ready and do not want to settle and come out with an unimpressive update that only fanboys would notice. Would you guys not just rather wait for MBPs that could have more from your wish lists rather than ones with just the new CPUs?
The longer we wait the more worthwild the wait will be.

I'm an Apple Rep. ;)

The official news from Apple in the coming year is:

March 2, 2010: Refresh of MacBooks. Don't buy one before this date.

March 23, 2010: iPads released.

April 20, 2010: iPads with 3G support released. A front facing camera will be included as a surprise. iPhone OS 4.0 will also be included on these. The iPads without 3G support will not be upgradable to 4.0. This new version of the software will allow video conferencing and VOIP.

May 25, 2010: The prices of the iPad 3Gs will be reduced 50%. We're going to screw the people who bought iPad 3Gs in the first month.

June 28, 2010: iPhone 4 released. iPhone OS 4.0 released for the new iPhone 4. Lots of great features like VOIP, video conferencing with a new front-facing camera. Don't think about buying an old iPhone 3G before this date.

July 20, 2010: iPhone 4V released. Will work on the Verizon network. The losers who bought an iPhone 4 which worked on AT&T's network are screwed.

August 2, 2010: Back to school program announced. Buy a MacBook for school and get a free iPad 3G.

August 24, 2010: iPhone 4 VOIP released. Still $199, but no contract necessary. Sad for those in AT&T and Verizon contracts. Very sad.

September 7, 2010: Back to school program ends. We announce new upgraded MacBooks with a touchscreen that runs all iPad apps. The new Macbook prices are all 50% below the current prices. Screw you, back to school program buyers!

Should we have announced all this just now?

lol if this is true, but im not getting my hopes up, but on march 2nd, do u mean macbooks or macbook pros?

You forgot:

March 14, release of the new MacPros.

These beasts are currently vastly overprized, since the iMac I7 closed the performance gap to the 4-core Mac Pros. Only the 2.93 GHz 8-core MacPro beats the iMac I7 but you get 2 i7 iMacs for the price of this Mac Pro plus two high quality 27" screens (the ones in the iMac i7) for free.

Those, who can live with a single harddrive and a glossy screen now buy the iMac I7, the rest just sits and waits for a refresh of the Mac Pro line. Then either buy last gen. Nehalem MacPros on sale, the new cheap core I7 MacPro (or 6-core Xeon MacPro) or the still expensive but now much faster new 12/24-core Xeon MacPro.

I'd buy rather a MacBook Pro currently than a MacPro.

i am eagerly awaiting the new MBPs but lets not forget as a COMBINATION of specs and software/hardware the MBP is an amazingly capable computer.

The other day I travelled from London to Durham and back! on one charge for my 17 MBP. During the way up I wrote a paper and watched heroes for 3 hours. On the way back I manipulated a PS image for about 2 hours (on the 9400) and did some browsing over 3G

This laptop does everything I throw at it and with the great battery life is a real travelling beast!

This combination you cannot find in the PC world and although I am desperate for the i7 to arrive we should all not forget how great they already are

Wow Gizmodo posted something but it's gone now...

From Gizmodo:

"[...] The $1,999.99 price glimpsed on the photo of the system is yet another clue that it's just 27-inch Core i5 2.66GHz iMacs—either that, or a new 15-inch MacBook Pro, which wouldn't entirely surprise us either. [Thanks to our anonymous tipster!]"

Why would they add a single 15'' MBP priced at $1,999? This must be the 27'' core i5 iMac...

You act like every PC manufacturer has up and dropped all C2D machines. They haven't. The Core iX platform has just been released for a few months, and a good portion of what is available isn't all that spectacular in other regards. Besides, if you are all excited to buy rev. A Apple hardware the second it's released (especially the portables), best of luck with that.

C2D is still around, just in the cheapo machines. you can get a nice core i5 laptop or desktop with 1GB of graphics RAM for $1200 or so from HP or Dell. and it's about as thin and light as a MBP

Seriously, if you don't like it, no one is forcing you to read these threads.

And this thread isn't this. This is a speculation about new SKUs at BB. So you're actually the one blowing smoke about switching to PCs here.

The rest of us are interested for signs of the refresh and want to read these threads.

Thank you.

And the people that are considering making the switch are not all blowing smoke. I know of one person for sure that got sick of waiting and bought a PC. It is not that we are saying "take that Apple" it is that we are sick of Apple taking there sweet time to catch up with the rest of the market. They are the last one to make the "i" series processor available. Not what people are used to from Apple. If you don't like it don't read it!

Your situation may be different in terms of your company. Now, your statement about OS X not being "everything" to everyone, while true, also holds true to Windows as well. This is not about the operating system, this is about people pretending to move on to a PC as if they have NO existing Mac software that they've invested in, or as if their Mac software also works on Windows so they can seamlessly switch back to Windows like it's no biggie. That's BS. If you're just websurfing and doing emails only then yeah, they can make the switch back, but that's rare that most people have no dedicated software for their specific OS.

There are plenty of Core i7 options in the PC world, and we keep getting reminded here about that so instead of creating new whiney threads everyday about waiting as if Apple is screwing people, those people can go get an HP Envy, Toshiba or any crap from Dell. If the Mac is worth waiting for people wouldn't be whining so much. It's not like the Core 2 Duo can't run Aperture 3, they can save some money and get a refurb. Like I said, these complaining and threatening threads are people just blowing smoke, most of them aren't even buying. One poster earlier said just that, he wasn't buying a new Mac, but he was sick of waiting.

Why are you in this thread. it appears you have no business except bitching about others in here! Let us stay in our "whiney" threads and wait in anticipation of the new MBP's without having to put up with your comments.

I hope this is true but I can't decide... I suppose thats true in industry, but as far as personal use goes.. most of the mac users that I know are just like me... and I'd rather wait another year for the update to come than buy a PC.

I am really trying hard to hold out but is getting herd. I owned a Dell and it lasted over 5 years with little or no problems. I have a home PC with Vista and I hate it. We also have two netbooks both have windows 7 and I am impressed. If we were still dealing with Vista I would have no problem waiting but Windows 7 has made owning a PC better. I really want to make the transition to an Apple but I am not willing to pay the price for equipment that is outdated.

I’m in exactly the same spot. It’s miserable! You don’t want to spend your hard earned money on a product that will likely be updated within weeks (days?). If it makes you feel any better though I’ve probably got you beat on the stress level of everything—I need to purchase a laptop so I can still get work done while my wife and I will be in the hospital overseeing the recovery of our soon-to-be firstborn baby girl. We just learned she is going to need surgery directly after her birth and at least 2 weeks of recovery in the icu afterward. :(

You know it’s bad when I’ve started praying for Apple to release these because it’s one less thing I have to be worried about! :)

Congrats ahead of time on your new baby! hope all goes well with her surgery and recovery. I have a 7 month old that spent her first 5 weeks in the hospital and I can say it is very hard and trying but you will be amazed when it is done how fast it went and the amazing experience it was.

Great, just when I was going to cave and get a MB, you have to go and post this. Thanks!

You really think they'd go through all the trouble to get their portable lineup synced up to all offer multitouch, just so they could go back and add physical buttons just for the hell of it? He's just making stuff up.

"Nice"?

You have a very loose definition of the term "nice". See, in my world, "nice" usually includes "isn't falling apart and looking like a piece of **** in less than 8 months". So that rather prevents me from referring to Dell or HP as "nice", sorry. Everything from them is a "cheapo machine". I look at an overall package, not the specs on a sheet of paper. Then again I won't drive a Kia either.

And you would still be getting ripped off. You can customize a Sony Vaio signature series directly on their website with an i5 and 8gb RAM for ~$1400

Sony Vaio's are great PC's.

If i was going to get another PC i would most likely get that.
Nothing wrong with a vaio.
But I dont mind spending an extra 300 or so to get a mac.
Rock solid, great OS, high quality.
That and it looks cool, which, lets be honest is a big pull for people.
Mac is the BMW/Mercedes/Lexus of the comp world.

Ill be going to college so looking cool is a must :)
(that and i asked the chairman of the comp science department what to get and he said mac and or Unix based Os)

Mac is the BMW/Mercedes/Lexus of the comp world.

I respectfully disagree. My custom built i7 PC is more powerful than a Mac Pro of twice it's price, and the construction is on par if not exceeding. My operating system is arguably better depending on your context.

I was referring to Vaio laptops though :) When it comes to laptops, it's tough to beat a MacBook overall...hence why I'm waiting to buy another.
