For instance, a full screen browser window.
Depending on which browser & how
It’s configured, it will still have the same 16:10 ratio below the notch row, so it’s not losing any space in that scenario, compared to what it has in previous MacBooks.

You may not be aware, but the ‘ears’ either side of the notch is extra space outside of the standard 16:10 screen real estate. Developers can utilise that space in full screen, if they wish to. Otherwise it can behave in full screen ignoring that space. Apple gave them options to work with the extra space.

I thought the notch would be distracting since it's now on a much larger screen but I don't notice it that much. The way they have the menu layout it really doesn't get in the way of what you're doing. And one click of the green circle hides it.

It would be nice if it was optional I suppose.

That said, I prefer the camera notch over the old setup with huge bezels. At least this way the menu bar is up and out of the way where before it cut into my real estate.

I'd rather have the camera on the laptop (in the era of zoom calls) than have the stupid HDMI port and SD card reader. A little HDMI dongle is certainly smaller to schlep around than a webcam.

That’s hyperbolic. The previous version’s bezels weren’t large in any way.

Have not read all the replies here.

The notch on my 16" is hiding quite a few of the status icons in the menu bar.

I am not going to threaten to return my MBP.

I am simply asking, do you think it is very possible Apple going to fix this problem in future updates to force icons on either side of the notch?

What are you talking about?

Look at the wasted space.
And in a fullscreen mode things are even worse - ears are not functional at all.

That' horrible! What the hell. I have had my Finder menu bar set to hidden and display on mouse hover for years. So my application windows are able to press right up against the very edge of the screen frame, utilizing all of the screen space. This bleeding wound of notch induced digustingness is totally unacceptable. What a complete waste of screen space.

Correct, but the crowds are not getting it :)))

We totally do get that you're upset about.. err, something. There seems to be indignation that "nobody asked me whether we should do this", I mean, look at your user name "Appledoesnotlisten". The answer is "no", and why should they?

But WTH, it's software. If you keep complaining and manage to convince people in massive numbers it might change in a later release. Hyperbole, like "bleeding wound of a notch", will invoke nothing but derision from the rest of us.

And the applications I use their menus are hidden and drop down with mouse hover as well. So I can have my application windows right up to the edge of the screen. So in the end, what the hell are we gaining in screen real estate with the new MacBook Pros? I don't think anything...

We gain only in apps that use an ALWAYS visible menu bar. If you hide the menu, you don't gain anything.

Well, that’s not a standard resolution, the aspect ratio is off for that to be a screenshot for a MacBook Pro & not how it looks in screenshots from anyone else. Or have you cropped it to misrepresent things?

It seems you’re misunderstanding the point, unclear if purposefully doing so, judging from your username, likely that you are though.

From the bottom of the menu bar to the bottom of the screen is the 16:10 screen area, that has always existed on a MacBook. Apple has then basically removed part of the top bezel either side of the camera & sensor area, and moved the menu bar up there.

Any full screen apps will not use that area, unless configured to do so. Therefore they use the same amount of space as they do, proportionally, as on a previous MacBook Pro, so not losing space. Just if a developer does not configure their app to use the extra space, only using the same amount as previously used.

Correct, it's not a standard resolution, I am an advised user using advanced resolutions.

that's stupid tho. You're not losing, but not gaining either. it's just silly
