Tim’s argument that they charge more because of more ‘advanced features’ is bull. All that guy cares about is maximising profits just so Apple can become the first trillion dollar company which doesn’t even matter. The iPhone 4 was a significant upgrade with features like: Retina display (first ever high res display that set the standard), a new glass and steel design which truly felt premium and still gets praised to this day, front facing camera, gyroscope, LED flash, and on the software side we get actual useful features like multitasking, folders, notification centre and FaceTime. Did Steve charge more for all of those features? No.

"He also said that "very few people" will actually pay the full price of the iPhone at launch, thanks to monthly payment plans that various carriers and Apple itself offers."

Translation: Most people (opposite of "very few") do not have the cash on-hand to buy this device and will therefore go into debt to get it. How very American that thinking is. And he said that like it's a good thing?

The developers are to blame for this, not Apple. They were notified a while back that this was coming. Changing an app to 64 bit is really, really simple most of the time. When the developer stops being lazy, and makes this change, you'll have your app back.

Some developers may have decided there wasnt enough money in the cut throat app world, or even died.
If I happen to find and old 32-bit app enjoyable/useful then I dont need it updated ... until Apple breaks it, of course

It’s not debt. It called leasing/renting the device. If you can’t pay it, your service gets cut off and the device deactivates and has to go back. It’s nothing like mortgage or student loans. There are no pushing back payments for months.

"We dont want high revenues." Am I the only one who thought "BS" when he said that?

Well to be fair, they want high profits. Walmart has high revenues, but relatively small profits. Apple is driven by profits.

A misleading statement for sure, at least taken out of context. I haven't seen the interview.

You’re half right. No kids but lots of purchased apps. Apple has given plenty of notice to update and add support for 64 bit, plenty of time. Not just ending support in iOS 11 but they added warnings that 32 bit apps will slow your system down or requiring that apps support 64 bit when submitting updates. If they haven’t yet (or have but pending Apple approval) then odds are, most apps won’t be updated at this point. Devs are being lazy, greedy, or both.

And I’m sorry you’ve had to spend that much for school apps, I’ve been out of school for so long and have no idea how that works. I can see education apps taking time to adopt, but if you have to use those, not updating to iOS 11 is an option.
And in fairness you’re half right. Yes we’ve known about the 32Bit thing since the end of 2014 but that’s just some “Planned Obsolescence” on apples part. They made Mac OS backwards comparable for years both after jumping to Unix then the jump to intel. Remember Rosetta?

I’m just saying this new ios doesn’t do or add to the experience in such a way that they needed to kill off paid apps on a relatively new format (iPads). They’re not THAT old).

Just like killing off the ability to perform our own FREE backups (including apps) on our computer forcing everything to the cloud where now on a 512GB iPad you’re going to pay because 5GB free doesn’t cut it

Why offer 4K video and super high def pictures that take up enormous space then kill off free backups to my 8TB drive?

Apple released a version of iTunes 12.7 between macOS 13 beta 2 and beta 3. It was downloaded in the background - no warning like usual updates. Then they quickly pulled it until last Thursday. You couldn’t get iTunes 12.7 if you paid someone. As a result because they only sent it out to a small number of us we got it.

Guess what. It’s iTunes 12.7.048 and it DOES have a fully functions App Store and app manager. So this BS to kill off the store happened after that. If it can work then why not let it work now? The good news is for those of us who were sent it it’s fully functioning. So yes I can do full backups. But I’m fighting for those who can’t now because they removed it.

It’s just greed. Last year the beta testers were sent the document “IOS APP Thinning”. It reads like a propaganda piece. Going on and on about App thinning will get rid of thousands and thousands of apps from the store and pave the way for only developers who can afford big staffs to keep making changes. Any developers not making changes with 6 month of their last update will be targeted. WTF? So the little guy that created a cool app hey even made it free because “it just works” (sorry Steve) theres no need for an update he got it right the first try. His should be turned off or thinned out?

I respect your opinion I just didn’t appreciate your reference to me be so old an out of touch I don’t count. Apple has a raking system in their beta department. You’re ranked on what you find wrong + what your recommendation is for a possible fix + did your fix work. Your bonus is tied to this. Out of hundreds I’m ranked 6th so I’m hardly old or sitting on the sidelines. I literally can find stuff in seconds even though I’ve been told “this is clean just give it your once over”. Yeah well my once over turned up 122 things.

I’m just saying don’t assume because I speak out against something that I’m out of touch. You’ll be upgrading to the iOS I found hundreds of things wrong and now they’re fixed. You’re welcome! <Grin>

Very good post. It's sad but actually better to pay it all at once. Why would anyone want 2 years of bloated cell phone bills or how ever they bill it?

"In one day we can make AR availavbe for hundreds of millions."

You mean the AR apps in the app store are not available to users?

Wonder how investors are feeling about the comment "our objects are not big revenues"?

What are you talking about down payment? I have never put any money down on a new iPhone. I am part of the Verizon Device Payment Plan, and I continue paying the same amount every year when I either give my former phone back or sell it and pay it off.

He meant layaway payments

My god the human suffering. Forced to adoption t the new IOS 11 against your will. How can Tim Cook be so cruel.

Oh wait.....you don't have to update the software if you don't want to. Still using so many 32 bit apps the developers are too cheap or lazy to update.

Don't load IOS 11. Keep using your 32 bit apps. Just suffer with no AR......dah.
It's a real concern for me and you just decide to make a mockery out of it? That... is the suffering I have to face for posting on MR, I guess. :)

Well, I have a reason to both update and NOT update to iOS 11, which is something I haven't had to put up with in most of the previous iOS releases, so it's not a particularly nice spot to be in. Don't worry, I'll probably find a way out...

My theory: Apple is releasing iOS 11 just 2 days before iphone 8 Release. Just because it slows down your device and you want to upgrade your phone to enjoy a polished os.

I will Never aganin make the mistake and upgrade ios Till you know is as fast

I can just imagine what it's going to do on my air 1 iPad and iPhone 6 Plus lol

I’ve been running a few of the betas on my 6 plus and it’s pretty painful. However it was painful on iOS 10 too. The 6 and 6 plus are just under powered to begin with.

It’s pretty butter smooth on my iPad Pro though.

I have the 6 plus....the camera app is super slow and overall as well. Using since beta 1.

I'm most likely upgrading to an X but is it horrible ? Still usable ? I think it's my air that will suffer the most but that needs an upgrade too. Both devices run amazingly welll currently.

This made me feel like digging out my old 4 and just admire it a bit. Its truly a jewel of design. The scratch prone 5 was a big step backwards and the 6 (and onwards) have no soul.

Interestingly, this is when Apple started selling hot air. "The glass screen flows seamlessly into the casing, making it one solid unit". "The wide color gamut makes your pictures more beautiful to view".

yes... but the camera app sometimes struggles to take a picture. Even in GM.

in macOS I tried Apple File System and it crashed...had to install without it. (Macbook pro 2014)

A day to forget: Apple pay still not available in Brazil...Apple Watch LTE won't launch here.

Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared on Good Morning America earlier today to discuss topics surrounding iOS 11, taking place a few hours ahead of the software update's launch later this afternoon. One of the major topics of the conversation Cook had with Robin Roberts centered upon augmented reality and ARKit, which will introduce advanced AR features onto compatible iPhones and iPads.

As he has in the past, Cook talked excitedly about augmented reality, explaining that the AR features of iOS 11 are a "huge" addition to the iPhone and iPad ecosystem and will be "unbelievable" for users.

Roberts then pointed out that AR has been around for a long time before Apple began to work on the technology, and Cook responded by explaining that the company is "taking the complex and making it simple," with the help of the ARKit developer framework.

Cook capped off the discussion of iOS 11 and ARKit by calling today "a day to remember."

The interview then shifted to the iPhone X and facial recognition, where Cook reiterated that user privacy and security are not an issue with the upcoming smartphone. "Once you place your face in the phone, it's in the phone, and Apple doesn't have it," he explained, further pointing out that only those you allow access to your iPhone will be able to get the data.
In response to a viewer question, Cook said the cost of the iPhone X is a "value price" for the technology inside of the smartphone. He also said that "very few people" will actually pay the full price of the iPhone at launch, thanks to monthly payment plans that various carriers and Apple itself offers.

Other topics include Cook's response to the potential end of the DACA program, as well as different user questions surrounding Face ID. You can watch the full nine-minute interview on Good Morning America's Facebook page right here.

having worked there, I can say that its not BS, now obviously every business has a bottom line, but the environment there was never sell sell sell, it truly wasn't about revenues
