Calm down dude.

Why so serious?

Fair point but do you not find it galling to see Cook smiling at his local Apple Store when he can't even manage to produce more than 6 hours supply? It's bad management. He's supposed to be a logistics expert. He couldn't manage a piss up in a brewery IMO. I was really looking forward to today. Now what. No watch till June and no MacBook till who knows when. To say I'm frustrated would be an understatement. Maybe they should go back to releasing products one country at a time as the current system clearly isn't working.

Thankfully Tim Cook measures sales figures by REAL LIFE, and not based upon forum hearsay and naysay. Wise man :) well done, Timothy & team.

It's not surprising at all that the CEO of the company can have a custom watch, but it is surprising that he's chosen to customise it.

I just wish that CNBC Josh was a little quicker off the bat to ask him why!

Mate, we ALL knew that 08:01am UK time was when we had to pre-order.
But, don't you think that they have done EVERYTHING possible to make as many units as they can?

They're not going to send out any negative PR explaining any production issues (if they had any) just yet.

Just be quicker next time. We was ALL in the same boat, some sank, some swam.

Does this sentence refer to itself? <----

Work it out, it's obvious.

of course tim cook goes by real sales figures. why wouldn't he?

that's like saying the sun is hot, or rain is wet.

why does that make him a wise man?

Samsung "sold" 800,000 of their first watch in the first 2 months.

I would imagine that Apple sold that many within 2 minutes.

As with other product categories, Apple hasn't always been the first to get something to market. But, what they usually get out is better than what has been available previously.

I thought they shipped 800,000, but only sold 50,000.

From what I've been hearing is the sales have been flat today for the Apple Watch. Most people in line where either buying iPhones or items and weren't aware about the Apple watch in general.

That's probably because you couldn't buy an Apple Watch from an Apple Store today. Sales, i.e. online sales, have been far from flat.

Apparently myself and everyone I know that ordered the black aluminum sport with black band is having their ordered canceled by Apple with the explanation we ordered too many. Each of us only ordered one. Phone customer service has no idea what is going on. :(
What is going on is you ordered one too many Apple Watches. Greed, man.

I was already working hard by 8am but that's not the issue. Are you telling me the worlds most profitable company with billions in the bank can't even manage to manufacture more than one minutes worth of supply? It's pathetic. They've had months to build up stocks. If they can't make enough then they need to significantly increase their production capacity. This is simple stuff. My five year old could do a better job than Tim Cook.

Lol

Soooo amusing that jim dalrymple got called "a well-bearded man"!

Ffs, would it kill these news channels to have someone covering tech that knows a thing about it??

I simply noticed the grin Tim had when he said "...and orders have been great as well"

That speaks volumes.

He looked very happy and pleased... almost trying to contain his excitement when he said those 7 words.

I bet he was thinking to himself "Holy crap... we just sold 100,000 watches in a matter of hours"

When I first read this article... I was worried about Tim referring to the orders as "great" instead of his usual over-the-top adjectives.

But after watching the video... he was clearly giddy with excitement when he talked about the orders.

:D

I have now seen it all, we used to have Kremlinologists, we now have Appleologists. During the Cold War our very existence potentially could be on the line but I am curious why any non Apple worker would be worried about anything Tim Cook said in relation to a product launch.

The Titanic could be sinking and Tim Cook would be positive about the situation, he is a politician in every sense of the word, did he have time to tell the interviewer about the empty Steve Jobs office?

I have noticed across a few threads a number of posts writing that the Apple Watch is smaller in person and not heavy, interesting considering that most reviewers have remarked upon how they were surprised how heavy it is. Could it be possible that some of the posters here are actual Apple employees in disguise or paid third party posters?

Somebody actually posted a close up picture of the watch on his wrist writing that it is smaller in person and light and yet the watch was so big it was hanging over the guy's wrist and digging into the bottom of his hand.

This thing looks utterly ridiculous. But of course to each his own but this thing looks extremely conspicuous and overbearing. If this Apple Watch is magical and you love it, great, enjoy, I just hope the posters here are being honest with themselves and to the Macrumors reading audience.

Suppose they expect to sell 20 million this year, and 5 million people want it on day 1. So you say they should have had 5 million ready on day 1. That's not how supply chains work as far as I know.
To start with, what if there's an initial production line issue that gets picked up once customers have the device? Throw away 5 million units?
And there's 30-ish different models. How would Apple know the relative numbers of each to make? (They'll have an idea, but they can't know for sure)
I'm just thinking off the top of my head. Maybe ask an expert in supply-chain management instead. Oh yeah, like Tim...

Which Apple Watch did you order, since you have the fireboat charge? My Fitbit Charge died, however I was able to get a store credit at BestBuy since I had the replacement plan.

Stainless steel, 38mm, Milanese loop. Got the earliest delivery window.

stainless steel 38 is looking like the one for me too. (Guy, smallish wrists, 42 would be fine, but I prefer a bit understated)

Of course in New Zealand we can only dream about being able to see it, or order it.

LOL! You just made that up! So the people in line didn't think it odd that there was a line to begin with, and decided to actually wait in line? I've heard that the preorders were brisk, everything has sold out (even Edition) and it will be months before stock returns.
