Jobs would have never allow this name scheme. Totally ruined the progression.
So people won't buy Mavericks just because it reminds them of Sarah Palin???
Petty much???
Steve Jobs is dead.
And so is Apple, by the looks of things to come.
Tim Cook is just rehashing what's already there and trying to make it seem new. iOS7 is just a facelift and had the functionality we should have by now. iPhone 5S is looking to be the same skinny phone made for people who apparently wear skinny jeans. No new categories under his belt.

I think the best part about this nonsense is that you contradict yourself in the same sentence.

It's a sh*te name that means nothing to 99,999% of the people that will use the OS.
I thought Sea Lion was way better, or going with the planets would have been nice, except once they got past Saturn it may have got messy...
Worldwide surf spot themed releases?
I like the name, surfing is cool and it was time for a break from the cat.
However if I was running the company, I would not name the official release solely on American sites. It's 2013, not 1985. People like it when the global community is embraced. Look at all of Apple's commercials, they showcase people using iPhone's all over the world - not just in California. People like that. Naming the Mac software after California locations isn't bad... but it's not that cool. Mavericks isn't congruent with the marketing plan of appealing to a global audience. I'd fire whoever came up with that name. Fast. NeXt.
My major beef with it is that it sounds plural. Maverick sounds amazing, Mavericks sounds ridiculous.
I personally thought Sea lion would have been great. Could have been a nice transition into Sea animals instead of cats. Could have gone into sharks or whales or whatever.
Landmarks isn't even a bad thing but this one seems to majorly lack identity in the world. I'm from the bay area and have never heard of the place.
Seems silly altogether.
I would have rather seen planet names.
Mac OS X Uranus?
Giving the OS a global name? For what?.... Like what? Europes, Germanys, Aussies, Chinas, Italys? Or did you want Apple to name the OS after a landmark in a country outside the US that would further make zero sense for American Company?
Doesn't matter if the Mavericks name isn't appealing to a global audience. Do people outside the US ever stop for once and think about the people who live in the U.S purchasing products and patronizing companies that are based outside the U.S with product names that have zero to do with the U.S? Sheesh.

I'm sorry to come across as being terribly blunt but your post makes no sense whatsoever. Apple catering to customers globally means nothing. At the end of the day the company is american grown, California based and the landmark the Mavericks name came from is very near the corporate headquarters in Cupertino California. At least there is an actual point and explanation of where the Mavericks name came from.

I live in the Bay too and have never heard of the landmark in Half Moon Bay but it certainly wouldn't make sense to cut the "S" off of Mavericks, it would no longer have a purpose to the where name came from. There's tons of landmarks in California. You can't just modify the names of them to be used for your products and still claim them to be originated from the landmark.
