People will NEVER be happy. Everyone was disappointed with the 4S at first too!

Personally and for the majority of people that I know, I'll take the sleek, thinner and taller design of the iPhone 5 that i can still comfortably fit in my jeans pocket over a plastic Android that is too big to even hold comfortably with a laggy firmware that many issues. (I also own 2 Androids for development purposes, so this comes from experience). The iPhone 5 upgrades are a huge improvement for me as I still own the 4, so I'm very happy! I don't see or feel the need to compare an iPhone with another manufacturer. If this one has everything that I need, am happy with the design/size and integrates beautifully with my other Apple products, that's all I need.

Trying my best to ignore the nay-sayers. Some people you just can't please.

What about its beautiful design.. I see the S3 its a piece of plastic with a big screen.. The iPhone is so elegant compared to those machines.
That's totally subjective.

I respect your right to believe that, but from my perspective, I think the S3 is more elegant than this new iPhone 5 with an elongated design that I find to be awkward and unattractive.

However, I do know that my opinion is just that.

as disappointing as this is, i will be buying one

because lets face it. a plasticy GS3 with a crappy OS would be a huge step down.
Crappy OS?

Seriously?

You obviously have never used ICS or Jellybean. Jellybean is every bit as smooth as iOS and some reviewers have called Jellybean the finest mobile OS ever created.

That comment may fly on this myopic board, but would never be accepted in the real world.

This is not your big brother's Apple anymore...things have changed.

I think he was referring to the load time of apps and "snappiness" of the OS and apps, not so much the LTE.

Also, I think that LTE is more than just a bulletpoint. While I agree, the LTE infrastructure isn't all there yet, having it does offer some appreciable bandwidth increases over 3G. For sure.
I agree.

Actually I failed to express all my thoughts. I have LTE now on another phone, using AT&T's HSPS+ / 4G it's very strong in my area. What I was referring to is the maturation of networks as coverage is rolled out in all areas.

Also a friend who works for a 3rd party contractor that erects towers, said they've got lots of updates & improvements to the equipment they install. His vendor said the new gear will make a noticeable difference once it's all in place.

Going forward it's only going to get better. It is nice that Apple included it now. That way the buyers that keep their phones & don't upgrade each release will have what they need.

Can someone tell me what's so great about the Samsung Galaxy S3 that makes the new iPhone go ..poof?

I will say the screen brightness or lack thereof sucks on the GS3, but everything else about the GS3 embarrasses the iPhone 5, and I'll bet whatever HTC and Samsung have up their sleeve next will really be something great, I just hate Android OS but I'm going to have to get over that now as I'm jumping ship.

Apple doesn't need to make a product thats not disappointing as long as it has suckers to buy their products. This guy thinks its disappointing and is still going to buy it and admits it! What new manor of brainwashing is this? "yessss I doooo like bad ideas....."

Much better hardware design. This is just a longer iPhone 4S.

Camera is basically the same as well. Should have made a much better camera.

I understand everyone with an iphone thinks they are a photographer now.. but, it's NOT the size of the Megapixels that makes the camera...

Some people read 8MP and got disappointed.
Trust me.. NOT the case

I know LTE is a big difference, I was referring to what you mentioned....app opening speed and general phone speed. Will this 2X really come into play with IOS6 or anything we experience before next years phone. As someone who has upgraded every year, I feel like this is the smallest upgrade in terms of real world usage. The camera update doesn't get me overly excited and 2X speed that I will not feel until at least a year down the road puts me in a pickle =/

Many didn't think the 4 to 4S was a big jump, but in real world usage....the camera and speed is definitely noticeable. That is what I want this year, but feel I may not get. Now, by time IOS7 is out sure, but that would mean a different iphone for me as a yearly upgrader.

I know that, but if you have a 4S, the camera is not improved enough to make a switch. From the 4, definitely.

HC,

I felt that way about Android before finally jumping to the S3 and I can tell you that you will be quite pleased with the smoothness. Android has come a long, long way.

Also, I'm rooted and Jellybean is buttery smooth. I've used iOS for the past 5 years and I can tell you, at least from my perspective, Jellybean is at the very least, the equal of iOS.

I'm excited. It's a very good phone. I think some people like to complain, just for the sake of complaining.

We'll see how sales go but honestly, I'm more worried than disappointed. My parents bought tons of Apple stock year ago based on my advice and I'm considering suggesting they sell. I've been impressed enough to buy every previous iPhone. This is the first time I'm not interested. So, I'll see how sales go because maybe I have somehow moved away from the target demographic.

like what? i saw the s3 in the store yesterday. it's nice but what does it do the iphone doesn't?

I though I would say... wow, the new iphone really is something else and go back to the iPhone. But I guess not. I'll stay with the Galaxy S3 for now... maybe when the iPhone 6 comes out I'll be impress

Not sure what the issue is.. Everyone is looking for that amazing revolutionary thing like the first one.. but that simply doesn't exist.. In the end of the day the iPhone is going to be a smartphone.

The design is thinner, nicer, the screen is bigger, the cameras are better, A6 chip, 4G, everything inside the phone is upgraded. We have that fresh iOS6 and all its new features.. The iPhone is exactly what you would expect as an upgrade for an amazing product. In my opinion its a gem.

I don't think anyone hates the new phone.

I think lots of people dislike that iOS is just playing catchup for features found in Android phones years ago.

Lol That would be silly if you sold

Comparing them I find it hard to imagine anybody could prefer the S3 design, but talking about materials there is not even room for subjectivity.

-720p resolution.
-Battery as seen on rumors won't be much better than 4S.
-Better Design. (I find this very much the same as iPhone 4)

paper specs

i was at the store yesterday playing with phones and my 4S has better screen quality than the galaxy note with its 720p screen

Thanks Cardinalryan,
Is Jellybean out yet to the masses like me? If I go buy an Android device without it can it be updated to JB?

Sure it has a spec bump and a slightly larger screen but the competition is well past the new ip5 and they have been released for a while. Apple have officially fallen behind, the ip4 was the best phone on the market when it was released, the ip5 is not. No doubt the core Apple fans will still buy it, but im guarantee a large portion of tech heads like me will be moving to an Android phone.

The official S3 Jellybean update will not be pushed until October, but there are tons of Jellybean ROM's available to install. However, if you are not into that kind of thing, the ICS OS that comes pre-installed on the S3 is excellent, but you will notice a nice added smoothness with Jellybean.
