Not many engineers would believe that a phone would bend without them doing anything to it.

Unless....Uri Geller was nearby.

People seem to have an interesting view of what "normal usage" is.
Normal is whatever a typical consumer decides it is. Not Apple, not fanboys. If routine front pocket carrying results in bent phones, Apple has a big PR problem... and blaming customers is not how you effectively deal with a PR problem.

All you people saying that the phone won't bend itself so the OP is lying need to stop. Nobody is saying that the bend happened magically without force being applied to it. The OP and others are saying it happened under normal use, which is possible. Learn how to argue correctly instead of using a strawman argument. You're making yourselves look like fools.

I can't believe comments like this are real. Depressed about human race now.

One would think so, but Apple seems to think since they've gotten away with it in the past they still can. It's a different world now.

Far worse than straw man they're also using ad homenem attack, which while effective on low IQ types, those of us that are watching what is going on here are getting very very angry. Apple is very close to losing a lot of customers permenantly.

You used a strawman (people saying the OP is lying) to claim that people aren't arguing correctly by using a strawman.

Funny!

But I know that nothing UNUSUAL has happened to my device that would cause it to bend. It almost never sits in my pocket. I absolutely do not put my phone in my back pocket. In the car, my phone sits in the middle console. It's never dropped. It's never been put under pressure.

Explain to me what happened then?

Do you own a cat?

My iPhone 6+ has also bent, though not as drastic as the OP. When I lay my phone down face first on a flat service, the phone can be rocked back and fourth between two diagonal corners. I also have never dropped it or placed it in my back pocket. I wear loose fitting jeans and only carry the phone in my left front pocket.

I'm going to wait it out for now, but the bend has steadily been getting worse. I'm going to wait for things to calm down and then take it to the genius bar when inventory isn't so strained.

Just so I can picture this.. you carry you phone in your pocket with the headphone jack facing down or in the bottom of your pocket, correct? So when you pull your phone out of your pocket you have to flip it 180 degrees to answer it right?

Key word being 'if'.

Nobody has proven or shown in anyway whatsoever that carrying your phone in your front pocket (regular fitting pants) has caused any bending.

Interesting....An ad hominem attack is one that personally attacks the person in order to invalidate the claim. (e.g. people are of a "low IQ type" so their arguments can't be valid or they are unnecessarily swayed by others, or someone saying a person should act their age or grow up).

Questioning whether or not a phone is bent under normal usage is not an ad hominem attack.

Likewise, for all devices, nobody has proven or shown in anyway whatsoever that carrying your phone in your front pocket (regular fitting pants) has not caused any bending.

I would be curious about the usage of the "typical consumer" of an iphone.

IIRC, more women own phones than me (so maybe more use of bags rather than pants) and more older people own them so that limits the skinny jeans market.

seriously, when someone crashes in a car do they blame the car for the dent?

The better comparison would be if the car dented while driving to the store without hitting anything, and it was just the normal driving that caused it to dent. In that case you bet it would be a design flaw.

Reminds me of the 1980 Chevette. :D

Really...did you read what you just wrote?

Why would they need to? They don't have bent phones.
Have you seen the only repeatable test done by Consumer Reports?

Wow...

Learn what a stawman argument is and try to avoid using it. You clearly have no idea what it is if you think what I said was a strawman argument.

Only if you believe a lot of people are lying. While a popular rationalization here on MR, I am confident Apple isn't taking the issue that lightly. Perception is reality, Apple is a company built on perception, they have to take this seriously.

One would think so, but Apple seems to think since they've gotten away with it in the past they still can. It's a different world now.
They've brushed off some minor complaints. But even with small things like "you're holding it wrong", which was about an issue that is common on other phones, Apple pretty quickly stepped up and tried to mitigate the problem (cases for everyone).

Only time will tell how big a deal this really is. My company is buying me whichever model of iPhone I want, but I'll be on the hook for accidental damage, so I may spring for Applecare+ just to be safe. Not like it's expensive, and one out-of-warranty replacement would be almost double.

Not knowing how you bent your phone doesn't mean it bent while in you front pocket.

That is the problem with these claims, nobody seems to know exactly when their phone bent. Making it hard to believe on face value.

Do you notice that "bendgate" is only being kept alive on MR and a few other small sites? It's not even news anymore. No major outlet is even talking about it. It's had died quietly, as expected. The issue apparently, is not that widespread. It's now being replaced by the earth shattering blue jean dye on the antenna bands.
