Ouch, all the complaints but we are in a pandemic. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do, even if it isn't on your roadmap.

Don’t have to tell me twice, Touch ID is garbage on my M1 mac, always having to re enter it, won’t be buying another Mac until it has Face ID.
I have a Touch ID keyboard on my M1 Mini and it works flawlessly so far.

The under screen reader isn't perfect. I have it on the Note 20 Ultra and sometimes it doesn't recognize after 5 tries and you have to enter the passcode.

I use my LG G8 as a music player and that has the old school reader on the back and it's money.

Apple probably didn't want this hiccup with a new product.

Goes to show what an oversized slow moving company the huge conglomarate Apple has become. Year 2 and 3 into the pandemic without a phone that works properly (unless you ALSO got an Apple Watch or you love typing in 4-6 digit numbers 100x a day while wearing a mask).

Same as their never changing phone sensors etc.

Great CPU team. Lousy iPhone team.
You mean the same sensors which are getting far bigger this year?

Why does everyone care so much about Touch ID the pandemic is over soon in the U.K. you don’t need to wear masks anymore
For me it is for the time when I can not look directly at my phone to unlock it. It makes things a little easier to do so with a touch in those cases. In a perfect world it would have both systems in place at the same time.

I have the same experience on my Samsung devices. The ultrasonic fingerprint reader is just bad. It doesn’t work most of the time. With the poor performance of the reader, I don’t doubt Apple didn’t want to use it.

And in the meantime, just bring back the 8 Plus as SE Plus, 5g, newest chip, improved camera software, affordable price. Not to mention 16:9 screen ratio and no notch.
I’m sure there are many people out there who would order on release day.

TouchID is great because you can unlock your phone without having to divert your attention. I've used this while driving a LOT so that a passenger can input directions into the Maps app while I can stay focused on the road.

I really hope they add TouchID to the 2022 iPhones. Until then I'm stuck with my old one...

Really getting sick and tired of these camera upgrades every year, nothing innovative here, my $500 Nikon still takes better photos than their garbage “upgraded” camera. Many of us asked for 1 thing “get rid of that ugly notch” but nope they need to focus on their lousy camera and useless featureless camera app.

Face ID is still better but would be nice to have both…maybe next year.

sounds like they see Touch ID for the non flagship models.
"...maybe next year" is no longer the cry of Chicago Cubs fans. It seems Apple has taken their place. Hey, at least the Cubs finally won the big one in 2016. That was about the last time Apple released anything remotely innovative :p

Innovative really is an overrated term which is used far too easily used in the tech world. Under display camera is seen as innovative but it’s sure as hell isn’t ready for mass market

Getting rid of the notch is not an option Until the tech is ready…camera upgrades are the important areas of a smart phone and always will be the main focus each year

It works flawlessly on all my devices 🤷‍♂️

The best camera is the one you have with you, and most people don't carry a standalone camera, let alone a $500 one - Our phones are our cameras. And of course to get it to the level of your Nikon it needs to keep improving, so it gets upgrades every year. And look, complain about quality all you want, but a modern phone is better by far than any standalone camera *I* personally have ever owned - SLRs/DSLRs are not used by most people - so I appreciate it continually improving, it's definitely an upgrade I'm looking forward to when I finally replace my 8. Is it the *most* important feature of a new phone to me? No, but it's definitely important.

Which phone do you own that has one of the most recent under display camera offerings?

You don’t need to own one the quality is poor for most part. The fold 3 one is just about usable but there’s a reason it’s on the main folded display and not the front display and that’s because Samsung won’t use it on their flagships and why you won’t see it on the s22 ultra.

What good is innovative like that if it’s not ready for the public to use Ona daily basics? You are just rushing it out to get it to market

Apple always take their time with technology maybe longer than they should be more often then not when it’s out it’s impressive and works very well. Features are always out on android first to see how it works and they want it to market

You're ripping on tech that has been updated on phones that haven't even been officially launched yet. My Fold 3 arrives on Friday, and I cannot wait to get rid of this garbage iPhone 12 Pro Max that looks like it is from 2017. I'll take a 4MP camera over a stupid notch in the display any day. I care not about selfies. The inner display on the Fold 3 looks 10x better than it did with the perma-punch hole on the Fold 2.

It’s called stating facts, the tech isn’t ready for mass market on its own. Fold 3 has a punch hole for main selfies. You don’t use the 4mp over that as it’s simply not anywhere near as good

So you would take a poor quality camera over a Notch? lol that’s your choice but if you care about photography you wouldn’t use that UDC

Fold 3 is a great device but the UDC is out just to get it out. It’s purely for better content watching not for image quality

Touch ID is terrible and never works for me. My hands are always sweaty and the sensor never works. Touch ID works EVERY SINGLE TIME and with no effort.

Having an Apple Watch and using the mask feature somewhat expands the FaceID recognition angles, at least in my experience. In several instances while not wearing a mask, my iPhone unlocks after barely lifting it from a surface and my watch will alert me of the unlock.

Yes, I would take a poor quality UDC and a punch hole on the cover display with a higher quality camera over an ugly, outdated notch. Again, I don't care about selfies and I'm not some wannabe photographer that thinks the iPhone's cameras are pro quality. Yes, the UDC is for better content watching and Zoom/Teams meetings, which is the entire point of this tech and the reason there are other, better cameras on the Fold 3. No one of sound mind thinks the UDC is for taking high quality photos. You are not stating facts by the way. There is a big difference between fact and opinion. Anyway, agree to disagree I suppose.

It works well on my M1 MBA. It's good for approving purchases, accessing web passwords etc

How long do we have to wait for USB-C? For once I’m glad EU is stepping in to stop this nonsense.
Imagine having 1 cable and charger for iPhone, iPad, AirPods and Mac.
bad news, nothing in the EU directive would change AirPods charging.

No touchID, no usb-c, no reason to upgrade my iphone8.
The beauty of free choice, enough competitors are out that offer these features. I had some transition with photos since I rock Android and iOS phones on two separate lines. It's funky but it works. I must say the S20Ultra outperformed my iPhone in photos every time. Night/Day. Just no comparison. And that was a little heartbreak as a die-hard Apple user.

Disappointing, but not entirely surprising. For me this clinches that I’m going to try to make my 2017 iPhone X last another year. It still works great and does everything I need, I don’t need a new phone yet and 13 is not enough reason to change.
