Three pages in and over half of Touch ID haters and a handful of vocal groups demanding Touch ID extinction. Wow. Headphone jack took 50 years to start dying out. Touch ID died out in 5 years. Wonder whats wrong with the tech world these days.

At this point, whatever Apple does with “Touch ID” won’t matter cause there will never be a critical mass of people demanding Touch ID back that would make some significant impact. In the meantime, maybe implement Apple Watch unlock on the ************ iPad Apple?!

You’ll get Touch ID when it’s ready, would you rather the under screen fingerprint reader on these current android phones which is useless.

What? I've heard from guys here that Apple is always the first at everything and everybody else just copies.
That’s not really the case, when Apple does get around to adding a feature, they almost always do it better than anyone so far. MP3 players for example… What Apple is best known for is in what they leave out, they try not to add me too features, just for the sake of it.

Why can’t Apple use the power button Touch ID sensor from the iPad Air 4? I thought it was a genius implementation when I saw it at the keynote… and I think it’d work great on an iPhone too. We use our thumbs to press the power button so all it would take is one simple press to have your fingerprint read and boom your phone is unlocked. Don’t wanna zoom past the Lock Screen with Touch ID? Just tap the screen and use Face ID. Then swipe up to get home. Same as before. I guess Apple doesn’t want to take the easy road and find a way to get it under the screen instead.

I, like you, are part of a large group of loyal customers that have been waiting 5 years for Apple to fix their stupid notch and stupid Face ID. Now it’s gonna be one more year at least.
My biggest frustration is the fact that Apple has the technology : the touch ID integrated in the button of the iPad Air 4 works well. I actually prefer touch ID on a physical button (that can be found blindly) rather than under the screen. Maybe I’ll get an SE, if only the screen was a bit bigger.

Did Touch ID really die out though? In the past year it continued on in the 4th gen iPad Air and was a new addition to the 2021 iMac. The iMac Touch ID being that exact circle button from the previous iPhones. It didn't die, it's just being used elsewhere.

I think the problem myself and many others on this site have with hearing this news is that Apple is probably the biggest tech company in the world and could engineer pretty much anything they wanted and not only engineer a solution but do it exceptionally well. What I’m seeing is that Apple wanted to milk this model design for another year before implementing whatever changes are required to include an under screen sensor - all this other fluff is just rubbish. Don’t get me wrong I’m getting the iPhone 13 and I’m probably gonna get an iPad Pro at the same time so I’m a hardcore apple fan - But it kind of stings when I remember the glory days of Apple vs Samsung for example where Samsung was always copying us the following year and we would laugh at their attempt to do so - that’s not what’s happening any more and there’s even more competition than back then - and apple charges like a wounded bull doing so.

Touch ID is being phased out rather than dying out. It’s being replaced with better technology.

Lame Apple. Masks are going to be gone soon, but not soon enough. Should had made Touch ID a priority

Then why is it being added to iMac lineup?

And a new form factor in iPad Air?
It'll be replaced by Face ID eventually I suspect. The iPad Air has already inherited the iPad Pro design language ready for Face ID to start coming down to the cheaper devices.

Many people in this comment section eager to see Touch ID die just like they want to see the terrorists got killed. Yes, it is still being used on various hardwares today, but only Mac is the higher end products.

Then what’s the better technology than Face ID? Apple can’t really allow all devices to have Face ID without higher end iOS devices having something “better”.

Why not? All iPhones had Touch ID at the same time in the past regardless of one being more high end than the other.

No. I don’t mean that. What I mean is comment section hates Touch ID so much they’d rather it die out completely than being implemented in conjunction with the Face ID. It’s like some sort of cults, or the Touch ID is the equivalent of terrorists that only bring bad things to the tech world and benefit none.

I am ok to wait for the better time for Touch ID to shine. I’m not ok with cults and fanatics yelling and demanding Touch ID to die and be completely replaced by something else. What’s next? Body ID? Gimme a break. It’s disgusting.

Wdym why not? What’s the better tech? Scan whole body for login? Or something else? Vein ID? Palm ID? I know all iPhone had Touch ID at one point and it was fine until iPhone X came out with Face ID and here we are.

You need to look at it from a strategic point of view for Apple. Face ID is already more convenient and secure than touch ID so resurrecting Touch ID would result in endless bad press for Apple about them deliberately making their phones less secure etc.

we already have a better alternative in the form of Face ID. There are just some people who refuse to accept that, hence you see the Touch ID drum being beaten over and over and over again. It’s like people refusing to accept that vaccines do In fact work.

The higher end ones will have under display Face ID I suspect.
