Weren’t all the rumors recently already saying no Touch ID this year?

Now, if a rumor came out right now saying no ProMotion this year, that would be a an unpleasant surprise.

That's disappointing. Unlock with Apple Watch works to open the phone, but it doesn't work to sign in to various apps. That's where Touch ID came in handy. I wasn't going to get an Iphone 13 anyway, but I was hoping with the Pandemic that Apple would have brought it back. That's something I miss from the Pixel. The under phone touch ID was flawless.

I hope this rumor is wrong, and TouchID is either on the power button or under the glass. My friend with a Galaxy reports to me that the in-screen fingerprint reader works fine.

I love FaceID but it has been lame to have to punch my code in every time I use Apple Pay or am out in public and wearing a mask. I've tried the Watch unlock but it doesn't seem to even kick in half the time and the other half it's slower than punching the code manually so that's what I end up doing.

Actually considering going from the flagship (XS Max currently) model to the SE, even if for just a year while I expect to be wearing a mask in public places, so I can have a reliable TouchID unlock. I've never considered getting anything but the most premium model when I upgrade, but if there's no TouchID on the 13 Pro I'm going to take a good look at the SE, or just consider not upgrading for another year.

From my experience on the Samsung S20 Ultra, I can tell you that Face ID is at least 3 times better — many times I have to write the PIN on the S20 Ultra to unlock it.

I guess that is the disadvantage of having the perfect cash cow in the case of Apple, why bother with anything but camera improvements and a faster chip that you won't really take advantage of, if people (I am not an exception!) just buy it anyway.
You got this all wrong. The faster chip development wasn't for us. It was for Apple themselves. To have us do the scanning for them on our iPhone. 😉

Glad to see TouchID is not returning to the iPhone. Face ID has always worked better and it pairs with the Apple Watch when you have a face covering. TouchID was never quite as reliable and often needed a few touches or just giving up and having to use the passcode because you had some sweat on your fingers after swearing at the bookcase until it built itself.
but this is not about TouchID OR FaceID, is about TouchID AND FaceID so you can use the one that works best given the circumstances.

IMHO this was never very likely for several reasons, including:
  1. Hardware costs money. Why would Apple build in two different biometric systems when most people want to just use one or the other?
  2. The two have different false positive rates - TouchID is about 1:10,000 while FaceID is about 1:1,000,000. If you set up a device to use either, you have severely weakened its security.
  3. Apple's hardware design process is likely something like a 3-5 year pipeline. This is how Apple managed to do a fairly good job at getting hardware out last year with COVID disrupting travel and in-person collaboration. Fall 2022 is the earliest time I would expect any legitimate hardware influence from COVID events.

Or maybe US fingerprint readers aren’t up to apple standards, I know 3 people with Samsung phones who have disabled the feature, main reason it’s unreliable junk.

One thing with apple, if it ain’t working 100% flawlessly, you ain’t getting it.

Hopefully it stays this way, plenty of half baked android phones out there.
Sure you do......you wouldn't have to disable it anyway, just choose another method....but you wouldn't know that ....

Lol well if anything it will just encourage more people to not upgrade or downgrade to an iphone SE...thats what I did and ive got zero complaints.

If true, I’ll pick up another SE for me and one for mom. I just want Touch ID in the Power Button, like the 2020 Air. It’s quite convenient.
Go for the SE! Sure it doesnt have the fancy cameras but if you can live without that, its a solid phone!

Right!? "I know 3 people..." 🤣

What a joke! Give us both Apple! It's the biggest feature they could add in our current climate and yet they aren't going to be stuffed to do it.

Even though I got a watch and unlock with watch works well, it doesn't help with my apps that unlock with FaceID.

It’s not about the money, snapdragon crap under screen fingerprint reader isn’t up to apple standards, that’s why they’re making their own, why bother paying qualcomm to use a unreliable fingerprint sensor, most Samsung users are turning theirs off because of how bad it is.

Apple will show them how it’s meant to done when it’s ready.

No they're not, and if they didn't like the scanner, they just don't need to use them, they don't have to turn them off, but you're just talking crap anyway, if it were that bad, you'd have more evidence than a picture with a few claims from xda, which is where you would complain if you're a tech nerd with an issue.

I'm guessing your three friends are the same three friends from all your S21 is crap anecdotes?

They should do both. At the least put Touch ID in the power button. Since it’s good enough for the iPad Air it should be fine for the iPhone.

Not everyone can wear a watch nor should they have to buy an accessory just to be able to unlock their phone in a manner that should already be in the phone to begin with........

Get to have both as an option. Don’t like either one? Turn it off and use the other. There’s really no coherent argument from users perspectives why they’d be against this..........

Getting rid of the notch is not an option Until the tech is ready…camera upgrades are the important areas of a smart phone and always will be the main focus each year
Well thats where they need to invest to get the tech ready. Cameras on smartphones are already pretty good. I doubt their will be any major improvement compared to last year’s.

I, like you, are part of a large group of loyal customers that have been waiting 5 years for Apple to fix their stupid notch and stupid Face ID. Now it’s gonna be one more year at least.
I couldn't bring myself to wait any longer. Still can't believe I've preordered an Android. Dire times indeed!
