I have a regular iPhone 16 Ultramarine, and I have zero problems with the display. However, my iPhone 16 Pro Max is almost unusable when it comes to a lot of things, especially the keyboard's responsiveness. It's a night and day difference.

16 regular is confirmed to be unaffected by this issue so it all makes sense.

Just checked on Reddit and loads of users on iOS 18 are reporting the same issue regardless of what phone they have
My 13PM and 14PM are on 18, and I can’t replicate these issues on them. I’m sure apple can fix the palm rejection bug, but the only one I’m worried about is the lack of touch sensitivity when using a screen protector . I feel like that one is getting overlooked.

People. I posted much earlier in the thread- 18.1 beta 2 resolved the issue with the screen not responding if you hold in front of the camera control button.

Before update I could reproduce the issue 100% of the time.

After update I can 0%.

I’m sure this fix is coming to the next non-beta patch.

Thats good news. Can anyone else with beta 2 verify this?

Curious to test beta 2 because I have so many issues with my 16 Pro Max. Random shutdowns during photography and night mode shots not saving correctly. Maybe it is stable enough to use on my daily.

Strange. I did a lot of picture taking yesterday, with some videos as well. I did not have issues in regards to that. I actually do not have issues with mine EXCEPT the screen sensitivity.

Did you use third party camera or stock?

I have the latest beta on my 16 Pro Max and I can confirm it does not fix the issues with me. The most obvious issue on mine is when I am typing on the keyboard and this is with only my fingers touching the screen.
There are too many issues being discussed simultaneously in this thread.

The fix im referring to is specifically the bug where if you place and hold your right thumb on the screen adjacent to the camera control button, the rest of the screen becomes unresponsive.

That is fixed with 18pb2, at least for me.

I do not have the other screen sensitivity issues people are describing, and I don’t use a screen protector

I’m going to install 18.1PB2 now, coming from non-beta 18.0, on my 16 Pro w/ ESR screen protector. Currently, I can replicate the issue with holding my palm on the right side and scrolling issue in Safari.

I’ll report back once I get 18.1 installed.

You also feel that the phone is generally unresponsive? I mean when you are not deliberately triggering the bug.

I'll jump in here. I definitely feel that way, I was installing some apps earlier and noticed that if I didn't hit the search result right on it wouldn't register.

I'm tempted to go back onto the dev beta but I'm also considering just returning the phone for now. I'm conflicted lol

On 18.1PB2 I can’t replicate the issue with holding my palm on the right side of the screen so that piece does seem to be fixed. I’m still having the issue with non-functioning scrolling in Safari when first tapping on a hyperlink and slowly swiping up and down.

I recently switched to the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max silicone case and I’m not sure if it has completely solved the issue, but I find the experience much better than with my prior case. I literally cannot stand having a big cut out for the camera button. It feels strange in the hand, and it’s also awkward holding at the phone while lying down. Does anyone else on this post also use the same case and are you experiencing the touch issues?

Ive been using the Apple Silicone case and the issue is very much present.

There are many, many posts on Reddit with floods of comments from people confirming they have the issue on old iPhones and iPads. It seems tied to iOS 18 RC but it’s sounding like what people here have confirmed is that the new betas fix some, but not all the problems yet. Seems to be enough widespread reports now to confirm this isn’t hardware related.

I use the silicone case on my Pro Max and also use a screen protector. My main issue is with typing and sometimes other areas not registering. I don’t know if the screen protector is causing any issues or not. I accidentally got a matte protector which I don’t like so I may take it off to try.

Let us know how it is.

Currently on 18.1 Public Beta 2 on my iPhone 16 Pro Max with Flolab screen protector. Can confirm that the camera control touch screen issue is fixed; if I put one finger on the screen near the button, the rest of the screen will no longer hang and will function normally as it's supposed to. However, the touch sensitivity issue is still not resolved. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 18 with Spigen screen protector, and it is a lot more sensitive. The same light taps that work on the 13pm do not work on the 16pm at all. I can easily reproduce this by tapping backspace lightly with the side of my thumb; the 16pm will not register any of them while the 13pm does. I went to an Apple Store today, and none of the display pro models have this issue. They all function normally like my 13pm with screen protector and are sensitive. This issue seems to only occur with any screen protector on not just Flolab as reported by this reddit post . I am guessing that the palm rejection algorithm on the newer models is way too aggressive. Since all screen protectors by design reduce the touch sensitivity to some degree, a lot of light taps won't register anymore.
