I'm on the latest 18.1 beta without any screen protectors or cases and there's some weird stuff going on when scrolling if your hand is resting on the button. It's not THAT noticeable but it's there.

So, I am getting a little concern that this issue with the touch screen may be hardware related, and I will tell you why. If this was something that could be remedy by a software update, then it would have happened by now. My question is, how do we go forward?

Typing is ATROCIOUS on both my 16PM and 15PM. Hiccups in general with scrolling. Also getting little disconnection blips with my AirProd Pros. All relating to how it's handling processing? My excitement for this new device has come and gone. I might look into returning my 16PM and downgrading to 17.x on my 15PM at this point. BRAVO, APPLE!

Most likely a calibration issue (Software).

Apple is using an algorithm to perform palm rejection so you can hold the phone without triggering accidental touches on the edges. This is even more important on 16 Pro-series because of the thin bezels.

Apparently they didn't use the phone themselves before releasing it to the public. The algorithm is way off.

This is also why thinner bezels is not necessarily better in every way. It looks nicer, but usability is more important imho.
This wouldn't explain the simliar lag/typing on the 15PM I'm also having. It's for sure worse on my 16PM though.

This is my first iPhone ever, got the pro model. I'm left handed so I don't experience the same camera control issue. But typing is pretty bad. I don't know if this is because it's my first iPhone or the same software issues everyone else is experiencing. Could someone explain to me exactly what makes the typing suck on these new updates?

Yeah, so for me at least, I type quite fast. On both my 15PM and 16PM especially, I'll type (in any app but it's worse in some than others) and the letters are always playing catchup. And if I'm typing something especially long, the lag gets worse almost to the point that I am tapping a full lettter ahead and seeing the previous letter pop. It totally messes with your brain having been used to it being instant as far back as I can remember. It's in an unusable state and if we don't see 18.0.1 by the end of next week I'll be returning my 16PM, downgrading the OS on my 15PM to 17.x, and keeping the 15PM until next year. I'm done with these headaches.

These phones are too expensive anymore to allow stuff like this. Apple should go back to a real S cycle and bi-yearly major OS release. It's also funny all this AI stuff they've marketed that won't be in the OS for awhile. Hilarious, actually.

The way I use my phone the camera button bug doesn’t come into play. But typing with a screen protector on is atrocious. I ended up taking the phone out of the case and removed the screen to protector and the phone worked great. I did notice a weird thing, when the phone was in my hand it was super responsive, but the moment I laid the phone on my bed and tapped icons, I noticed the screen wasn’t as responsive.

16 pro here I had a weird new version of iOS 18 to download even though the phone came with iOS 18 when I set my phone up on my Mac. No screen issues at all.

Everybody did. The phones were shipped with an older build of iOS 18.0, the update was to the final release version.

The touch screen hang only happens sometimes for me when holding that area near the camera button. In fact trying it now after watching that guys TikTok video and I couldn’t emulate it at all.

However the HDR 4k 30 video bug does affect me.

i'm having touch issues on my ProMax 1TB out of the box. Using a ESR screen protector.

missing a lot of touches. not good.

I also have this problem, in the lower part of the screen on the right side near the control button if I put my finger it freezes and the touch doesn't work, furthermore during navigation the touch doesn't respond well and the keyboard doesn't either

are we sure that it is a software problem or a problem with the displays of the first batch of iPhones?
I have a launch day 16 Pro (and am using a screen protector) and it's not affected by this issue. I've tried every way possible to replicate it and can't do it.

Disappointing seeing these problems with the touch screen. I’ve been planning on switching from a Samsung to iPhone for awhile now. For someone transitioning from Android to iPhone, would you advise I wait until these issues are resolved or take the chance switching now? Sounds like it doesn’t impact everyone.

If I got AppleCare, I’d be fine going without a screen protector and case, but don’t love the additional cost.

I don't know what to say, I hope it's just a software problem otherwise if this isn't the case they will have to replace the devices

It’s the damn palm rejection. Bezels are so small that my palm sometimes rests on the actual screen, and then it stops reacting to other touches. That camera button is irrelevant. I can type without any issues while resting my finger on that button. I can swipe on it, press it ever so slightly that it doesn’t open the camera, or do anything, and it’s perfectly fine.

This whole message was typed while I was messing around with the camera button. Everything is as responsive as it can be.

My issue isn’t the palm rejection bug, it’s when having on a screen protector and the screen loses sensitivity.

You are so lucky but also makes me feel nervous that this may be a hardware issue instead of software since some people are not having issues. I initially restored from a back-up when I set this up but I thought that was the reason why I was having issues with the keyboard typing lag so I reset it and started fresh without restoring any back-ups, however, the problems still persisted. I still have 6 more days to return. I would think that by Monday they will release a software fix, if this is a software issue.

Exactly, I'm concerned that it could be a hardware problem
