here where I am in Dubai the only solution is to go to the apple store, so do I have them do a display / screen test or do I tell them if they will replace my phone?

There’s a toll free number, you may explain your issue in phone, they may do remote diagnosis, if they ask you to go Apple Store for physical diagnosis, say you need express replacement

even if I don't have apple care will they replace my phone? Then I know that it is possible to do the replacement only in store, is it possible?

I had returned it and yesterday the new iPhone arrived, I no longer have any problems, everything works fine and this iPhone was produced in September while the old one was produced in August. At this point I'm thinking it's a hardware problem

Would be interesting to see if those being sold now are all trouble free and it was an issue with initial batches only

Thanks for posting! The more people see this, the bigger the chance they will replace their phones and be much more happy with their products. I really don't understand Apples strategy on that matter. It really looks like they know it`s a hardware issue but are trying to limit the number of exchanges. That puts them in a really bad light.

I just returned my second 16 Pro Max (September build) due to missed/delayed touch response. The September build was better than the August build I had, but still had issues even after updating to 18.1. We have two 16 Pros in our household as well and neither of those have any issues. I’m not sure if I’ll try another Pro Max at this point. Pretty disappointing.

I’ve been switching between a pro and pro max and the max definitely has issues. I have way more typos and miss-presses. I’m just going to switch to a pro at this point.

Even I now feel it’s a hardware issue as apple has still not come out with a software fix for it but I also believe if scrolling near the camera button which was hindered could be fixed and the initial keyboard issues got slightly better with 18.0.1 why couldn’t they just come up with a new patch to fix it once and for all.

Have you installed 18.1?

I think the super thin bezel was a bad design choice by Apple. It will always be impossible to compare 16 Pro-series against the previous models in terms of touch sensitivity near the edges because the super thin border will require slightly more aggressive palm rejection algorithms. The alternative would be accidental touches which is possibly even worse than missed touches. I remember when the Samsung Galaxy had the "edge panel" and how frustrating it was when it constantly added letters or touches that was unwanted.

I am generally against "looks over functionality" design choices and I feel that the thin bezels is just that. It doesn't provide anything really useful but it does create new problems that are hard to solve.

agree 100%, like it is funny bc I'm moving from very thin samsung s20+ bc of the thin design and curved edges (i like 180g of weight thou) where it is impossible to use the phone with no cover, just bc of the touch problems on the edges, and either Apple invent something amazing for the 17 air or it will be a huge disappointment bc it is really impossible to use a thin phone with no boarders at all.

I suggest you let it go. I went to the Genius Bar at a large Apple Store in Italy last Saturday to have a system diagnostic done because of a reboot issue.

Among the various tests, I saw a “touchscreen test” listed. Well, they ran it, and the test was simply sliding a finger over the screen to color blue squares. It’s a test that any screen test app can do (even Aida, if I remember correctly).

Something like that:

If you go, let us know if they perform a more in-depth test for you.
In Italy at APPLE STORE Campania, i changed my iPhone after display test, it had some problem of touch.

Also I changed my 16pro max, i see that some apps like wapp and Instagram the touch issue is always in the corner on left and right side.
for exemple when you press the icon of mic for a vocal msg, you must press more time or to change the position of finger
instagram when you want to close the story of your friends on up left side, you must press more time.
