No one knows for sure but my guess (with 99% probability) is that a DFU restore will make zero difference.

The problem is most likely caused by palm rejection algorithms that are very aggressive in the very edge of the screen. This is to prevent that these buttons are pressed when you are just holding your phone and your palm touches the edge of the screen.

Unfortunately the methods to determine what is a real touch and an accidental palm touch is not very good. The phone tries to guess if your intention was to touch the button or if it was an accident. Sometimes this guess is wrong and the touch is dismissed as a palm touch.

If they didn't apply the palm rejection algorithm, touch would work 100% of the time, but you would also get very annoying accidental touches. This is just as bad as touch not registering.

App developers will have to adjust their GUI to not put buttons in the very edge of the screen. This also applies to Apple themselves. Example of a button that is very hard to press is when you download an image in Safari, then click the "Downloads" button next to the URL bar, then open the image you downloaded and try pressing the share button in the lower left corner. It is very hard.

We just have to wait for Apple to fine tune the palm rejection algorithm and for app developers to adjust their GUIs to not place buttons in the very edge.
The problem seems to be bigger than that. When using a screen protector and the screen is cold, taps are sometimes ignored in the central parts of the screen too

I did some things that I will share with you , will maybe help , but dont know.
First of all , i dont have touch screen issues , but I did had a serious case of laging when typing , and had a missed types.
Now i will give all the steps I did , and from that moment the lag is gone , as well as missed typing.
First , go in keyboard settings and reset all keyboard settings. Than disable all stuff like , swipe to type , predictive text and so on.
Second , put two languages for typing , ect english us and english uk, and when laging starts just switch to another language and that is it.
After reseting keyboard and adding two lanhlguages , restart your phone and just use it.
There is no some crazy theory by my opinion that one build is bad and other is fine , and so on. Of course , there are some defectives phones , always will be too , but than again that is normal. Those that had defective phones probably recived new ones and that is it. And for the end , I am using magic jhon screen protector , but from day one I was using some cheap screen protector and there were a lot of laging , and since I put it on magic jhon screen protector , its also been better.
You will have ocasinal laging , but it will grately depend on app you are using , like viber , or whatsapp. What i constaly only see still laging is backspace key , but this is also not constant , its from time to time.
I think that apple has more throuble with wrong scaling UI and apps that it has with screens and touches...
That is it from my side

I’ve always used and had two languages. Off topic … what’s iPhone English language ? I’m assuming it’s an arrogant description for English USA?
Do you speak iPhone ?🤣 I heard good stuff / reviews about Magic Johnson’s.🤣

Guys , just wait couple of days.
Laging will start in one or two days , or wont start at all.
I have already send you steps how and what to do.
And greetings for my friend @Fred Zed
Without any jokes now , this forum is the biggest tresure of apple.
No other manufactuer have this.
So good job MacRumor and his members.

Does the keyboard register all the touch input, primarily the backspace and letter P, as that’s my pain point.
The palm rejection algorithm is completely different in 18.1.1. Now screen register everything on the upper part of the display which makes it much easier to press buttons close to the edge on the top part. In the bottom it is pretty much the same as 18.1.

Ok. This OS is so unbelievably screwed. Why can’t they solve it once and for all!

Problem is that you are holding the lower part of the screen so the algorithms must be more aggressive there. I think it is a hard nut to crack without introducing other issues like involuntary touches. They should have kept the bezels as they were on 15 Pro series...

through my little testing as well as personal experience it has not changed at all compared to 18.1.1. the keyboard is still buggy and sometimes the screen misses some touches here and there.

After about 34 hours of use, after dfu mode and ios18.1.1, for now my device seems a little bit better than before, but if I compare my 16 pro max built august vs my 16 pro max of my father, the last seems different more fast and reactive!

I still get the issue where my phone feel like it drops to 15/30 fps. This is when I notice touch issues. I can lock the screen and unlock it and it goes away.
