For me, I’ve tried without and with screen protectors and the result is the same.

It could be very likely that there is code to reject a larger surface area of touch only along the edges. Touches are missed with the flat part of my thumb, but not the edges of my thumb. Try it out with p and backspace in a blank text message

Maybe there are a new variant of tempered screen protectors who work with 100% sensitivity.
I permanently removed the Spigen screen protector. While the missed touches were few, they were enough to bother me. I come from the experience of having nothing on the screen, which is almost perfect. Today, I received the hydrogel protector, installed it, and it turned out perfect—it looks great, adds no weight or bulk, and I haven’t had any issues with missed touches. However, the touch sensation is different, somewhat “rubbery.” It’s not annoying yet, but I prefer the feel of glass… Will I have to resign myself at some point to using it without protection?

Hey guys I have good news from apple support.

Today I have called with an apple support engineer and he told me, the sensitivity problem with glass protectors is a known issue and they working on a fix. He said the display construction this year is different, because the 16 Pro / Max have thinner bezels.
In the near future they release an update with the option of having a protective glass installed. This will increase sensitivity.

Let’s hope 🙏

Hopefully, the information you were given is true, although I find it strange that no one has brought it up, considering that many devices have been returned, countless device and screen replacements have been made, and there have been many complaints. It’s odd that this information isn’t official, as it would reassure a lot of people.

Still no problem here. It’s my first iPhone though so I don’t have anything to compare, but with my ESR glass protector I personally think everything’s fine. Tested with instagram photos and the back button in the upper left.

But there are some lags which are a bit annoying but they don’t have any relation to touch issues (e. g. opening a telegram message directly from lock screen - can’t understand the delay to be honest. It’s like 2-3 seconds staring at the display and waiting for the phone to execute the command which feels like handling some mid-range device 😂).

I haven’t used the ESR protectors; I understand they are thin. The Spigen one is quite thick, and while I had some minor issues, at this point, they were annoying for me. Today, I’ve had the hydrogel film on all day, and I haven’t had a single touch issue.

Just for science, I found a really thick, off-brand tempered glass screen protector that I bought for a camera in my office and slapped it on my phone temporarily. I tried my instagram test again, opening photos and videos and hitting the back button in the upper left. This time I did 100 cycles of open and back…
Still 0 missed touches.
So I’m really not sure if the screen protectors are truly the root cause of the problem
‏I'm sure all the IPhone 16 Max series have a touch problem , Only some people do not understand

LOL...absolutely not. I understand thinking this, though, because I thought the same thing with my 15 Pro Max...and I ended up being wrong.

If you want, I can do a screen recording of myself opening 100 instagram photos and hitting the back button with no missed touches, if it makes you feel better. :p

My friend also agreed with you, but when I saw her closely and tested her phone in front of her, she realized the problem .
I have tested five iPhone 16 Pro Max so far and all of them had this problem, so I am sure
I think Apple has produced a phone specifically for you LOL

I have tested 9 iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max devices from friends and family. I’ve also tested many in stores. Currently, the ones in stores perform much better, just like mine, because they don’t have a screen protector. All my friends’ and family’s devices have screen protectors, and on all of them, I’ve been able to reproduce obvious missed touches.
My family tells me I’m crazy, that it’s normal to miss a touch once in a while, and that it doesn’t bother them. My friends, except for one who has OCD like me, say the same thing.
When the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max were first released, they had a touch sensitivity issue when pressing the camera button. This was fixed in the next update, but since then, the screen sensitivity started having issues. It has improved a lot, but I still think there’s a problem, especially with glass screen protectors.
I believe it’s a software issue, and I also think Apple is 100% focused on AI. Apple has serious problems.

True, but even with the screen protector, this problem should not exist, in my opinion, this is a defect

Except ironically the original poster of this thread doesn't reply anymore, specifically because he got a new phone that was problem-free (and I believe he uses a screen protector) :p

If mine had this issue, I would see it day-1. I find every tiny defect in iOS that a person can possibly find, but this is one that I luckily have never had to deal with.

Also, whether or not you're able to reproduce on people's phones WITH screen protectors doesn't help much, because as I've said before, I never use screen protectors. But if a large percentage (if not most) iPhone 16 Pro phones work as designed WITHOUT screen protectors, then it unfortunately gives Apple little legal incentive to look into the issue because technically that means that they are working 100% as Apple intends, because Apple isn't obligated to design phones to work with screen protectors applied...

Let's not forget what Apple's solution was to the iPhone 4 antenna issue. First they just said to hold it differently, and then they just ended up giving out free rubber bumper cases. If this were truly an issue with screen sensitivity due to screen protectors, it wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if Apple's official stance ends up being, "Well, we just can't guarantee performance with a screen protector, so that's up to you." Except there's barely anyone truly complaining about this, so I doubt they will ever address it at all. Reddit threads about this get a few hundred replies. Out of millions of devices, that's nothing.

Look at this thread:

"WHAT APPLE TOLD: I spoke to the Apple Support and they told me that it's most likely the touch sensitivity algorithm implemented for iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max in the new software. They told me to just wait and that HOPEFULLY the new 18.2 update fixes this issue, which will come later in December."

Apple supposedly told that person it could be be fixed in Dec. It's Feb now. How many months do you think it will take Apple to address it if it's addressable?

So I'm really disappointed with Apple. In my country this phone costs 2000 dollars and I don't like to use it without a screen protector

Do you never use a screen protector? Do you have scratches on the screen? I think it's the only option at the moment. I have no problems without a screen protector but I'm afraid to scratch it.

I never do. I think I may have had one on my iPhone 7 for a few weeks, but I took it off and haven’t used one since. I never have problems with scratches, but I take good care of it (don’t put it face-down on surfaces, keep it clean, etc). Plus, I have AppleCare, so if something catastrophic happens, that will take care of it. Plus, I usually upgrade every couple years or so— if it was a device I needed to keep in mint condition for 20 years, then maybe it would make sense. But let’s be honest— phones are disposable technology.
