This show really has gone down the gutter. It really is terrible, were it not for it's tremendous atmospheric quality. Every season you know nothing of major importance will happen, except for the finale, thus you wait and wait for the main villain killer to be killed, but then you realize it will only happen in the finale, and so the rest becomes an exercise of predictability leading down to the final moment, where the reset button is pushed so that a next season may continue with the same story arch and structure, and the creators can laugh themselves silly on the way to the bank.

Wow, you just described every series on television today. Why so negative? For the most part that's how storytelling works. There's an introduction, a build up, a climax, and a conclusion.

Except Dexter does quite a poor job at it.

Most of the time he seems to follow Harry's rules, but there was that incident in the rest stop (this past season, I think) when he killed that biker guy just for being a dick.

I don't remember exactly, but wasn't he attacked in the rest stop?

I only just realized how odd it was that I'm rooting for a killer. I never saw Dexter as the bad guy in the show, even from episode one.

I don't root for Dexter. I love the execution of the story, but ultimately observe and wonder how and when he will be caught. He is a sick person. Ultimately his motivation is the desire to kill, not to do good. Fortunately he funnels his needs at bad people.

At some level I agree with your critique, but I disagree that the show has been ruined. I see this as the only formula that allows a show like this to continue for multiple seasons. There is the creative choice to give the show either a satisfying or unsatisfying ending. Typically a climax where the major conflict is resolved is most satisfying for most viewers. And if the primary conflict is dragged on for multiple seasons, viewers like myself would probably feel like the story is being dragged out. The most exciting season was No.2 where Dexter was close to being caught. Although somewhere in my mind, I figured he would prevail, the threat and execution of the story distracted me from this likely hood allowing me to enjoy how the story unfolded.

And that's precisely what's wrong with it. It doesn't allow the story to evolve. They had a perfect opportunity with the ending of season 5, but they chose the easy way out. At this point, they're milking the show for all its worth. It's certainly no Breaking Bad, but boy did it have potential.

So far I've found the latest season to be fairly compelling. The "new" twist they have is quite interesting. The religious aspect is something they have visited briefly in the past and I think it makes for an entertaining focus here.

Unlike season 2 where the suspense revolved around Dexter being caught, the conflict is internal. Can Dexter become human? Just like with being caught, you know he won't be if the show is going to continue, but it is definitely an interesting conflict.

Wow, this last episode sure provided an interesting twist at the end. The previews for next week look like there's quite a wild ride ahead with Dexter's new "conscience" if you want to call it that.

I think Mos Def did a great job this season with his role. Brother Sam was an interesting character.

Don't you mean Yasiin Bey? :p

If the preview was for next week's episode only, then holy ****. There were so many exciting things happening!

TV Show: Dexter

This is a great show. Its best combination of suspense and mystery. I have seen all seasons of this show.

Well, they got me. Although psychotic delusions are not a new plot twist I didn't even consider it until right before "the big reveal". This certainly explains some questions I had and definitely makes wrapping up the season pretty straight forward.

Yeah, but why would Dexter go down into a basement through a trap door which is most likely the only entrance/exit? That didn't seem very Dexter-like to me. If the "Professor" would have been hiding in the church somewhere, he could have run over while Dexter was down there, closed the door, and trapped him down there.

And, yes, they got me as well. I had no idea they were going that way. Good writing.

Off topic, but does anyone here watch Homeland? It's on right after Dexter. That's one helluva show too.

So Travis has a split personality of some sort? He doesn't know that he has that though..? If the Professor has been dead all along, and Travis = the professor, then:

- Who put the blood writing on the wall in Travis's bathroom?
- Gellar killed Travis's sister, and Travis was furious about that. Surely if Travis was playing 'Gellar' - he'd not want to kill his sister? Unless it was a psychotic episode he had?

Take a deep breath and go watch Fight Club. All will be revealed.

However, if it makes things easier, let me put it in professional language as this is my field of experience:

"The dude is nuts!"

Thank you, my work is done here... ;)

Season Finale

Holy hell! She caught him. That was one.crazy.ending.

Only 10 months to go. BTW, the show's been picked up for two more seasons. The net's buzzing about how it may be the final two.

Yeah!! I watch this show, too. First thing I thought is what is she doing there and she caught him during the attack. My brother-in-law and sister have been discussing about this and at the time there is no plausible out of why for this. Maybe Dexter will confess to just killing Travis because he kidnapped and almost killed his son. And then, he'll plead with Deb to not say anything, after all, she's in love with him.

I don't know, really. It's going to be a LOOOOONG wait for the conclusion of that!

I'm more interested in seeing if they carry Louis and the Ice Truck hand over to next season or if that was just a diversion.

Quite an ending. Especially when Deb is realising her love for Dexter - how will that play out in her keeping his secret?

Must be a tough story line for the two of them considering they used to be married in real life and are now divorced.

I'm more interested in seeing if they carry Louis and the Ice Truck hand over to next season or if that was just a diversion.

They have to - there's been no significance about it in season 6.

This was what I was interested in learning about during the finale. Hopefully it becomes a much bigger topic next season.

And when the last five seconds of the finale aired, I was speechless and giddy. A great way to end the season, except now I have to wait 10 months to learn what happens ten seconds after that moment.

I love the Louis and the Ice Truck Killer angle - that's gotta get juicy.

As far as the end, the wife and I just looked at each other and let out a simultaneous WTF!

I'm just glad there are shows like this to counteract the stupidity of Jersey Shore or any of the other reality drivel that seems to dominate these days. As soon as someone gets voted off of Dexter, I'm tapping out. :p

The Deb falling for Dexter story line is just way too weird. I cringe every time they talk about it. I'm pretty sure this has to play a part when she catches him in the act.

I wonder. Will it be just this one? Or will it all his murders? Will Deb know he's the Bay Harbor Butcher? I just thought it was stupid that Dexter didn't use an isolated kill room. Doesn't he always use a much smaller one?

It's going to be a looong wait.

 What an ending. It doesn't necessarily feel like a proper ending to the season though, more like a mid-seasonal break...(that'll last nearly a year ).

So many loose ends to tie up. Though I'm glad in a way, to have everything tidily wrapped up suddenly would have been a let down.

The Deb falling for Dexter story line is just way too weird.

Yeah, that was a bit of a weird way to go.

This season's ending wasn't as sensational as in the past, but it was definitely a solid season. I had a feeling that Deb would find out sooner or later. I'm looking forward to seeing where the writers take this.....
