Just put 11.2 on my ATV 4K and LG 55C7P last night. Many times while watching the HBO app the screen would go blank and then show static and then flash to back. When I turned off the ATV and back on everything was fine. This was using an Amazon Basics 4K HDMI. I had my setting to auto framerate and auto hdr. Does it sound like the cable? I thought I had read about this problem but couldn't find the post. Thanks!

If your TV is not Dolby Vision compatible then ATV will switch to HDR mode and apply fake HDR to any Dolby Vision titles on iTunes and Netflix hence the odd colours.
I get what you are trying to say, but it is not quite true. The HDR10 converted DV movies are real HDR. The extended range is still in the file, is still being processed and displayed. Unlike SDR, a white light source is much brighter than a pure “paper white”.
The issue is that the HDR10 metadata (from the examples that I have seen) is not matching to the expected mastered value. This means that the brightest areas may not match the expected brightness. While this is not ideal, it is real HDR. Hopefully this is just a bug that will be corrected in future updates and/or content.
This should be an easy fix since HDR10 metadata is consistent across an entire video. They just need to seed the right initial value.

I have the same setup with a Belkin High Speed HDMI cable instead and I am not running into this issue. Not sure if that’s the reason but it’s been pretty smooth so far. Also, I have the default mode set to 4K SDR so that it just auto switches when I play HDR and Dolby Vision content.

Thanks, I switched the cable last night to the Belkin and run it in 4K SDR. I haven't had any more problems.

I'm really confused about what is going on with DV/HDR Playback.

I have a Samsung KS8000 (think this is the KS9000 in the states, it's the flatscreen Samsung anyway) and therefore HDR10 and not DV, Ive just tested a few different things with xCode.

Both War for the Planet of the Apes and Bladerunner) both bought on iTunes, say the video range during playback is SDR (Video format and display), despite having HDR or DV tags in iTunes, while both are playing back in 4K.

Stranger Things 2 is listed as the video format range as DV, with the display video range as HDR10, which I guess is what it should be doing.

This all with the matching settings. When forced HDR, the display range changes to HDR10, but the video format range is still SDR.

It just seems strange to me that Netflix seems to be behaving as it should, while iTunes content isn't. Any ideas anyone?

**EDIT** So I turned on quick start and it works fine now...

On version 3 of the beta upgrades for ATV4K - suddenly I only see Dolby Vision tags and no more 4K HDR tags. I have the Match Content set on to match range & frame rate.

I'll see an HDR balloon occasionally, and I have set the source format to 4K HDR 60 Hz or 4K SDR 60 Hz to check switching.

Is there a way to restore the 4K HDR tags?

EPSN has been added to the TV app/next up with the latest beta update but man the ESPN app is buggy as heck.

So far I have not seen anything except for perhaps minor bug fixes.

Using Xcode Version 9.2 beta (9C34B), turned on HUD and took a few screenshots. The device logs are interesting , as they show the product as AppleTV6. There are some other interesting tidbits in the logs as well.

Depending on source material, I either get an HDR balloon or a Dolby Vision balloon. Match Content was turned on.

Has anyone else had a problem with their ATV4K no longer automatically going to sleep since they installed the 11.2 beta? I have mine set to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity and this used to work just fine, but since installing the beta the only way to make the ATV sleep, is to force it manually.

Another fix I've found is to re-boot the ATV and then following the re-boot, if I leave the ATV alone it will sleep. However if I use any apps (typically Netflix and BBC iPlayer) then the auto-sleep function seems to stop working again.
Anyone else experienced this? Not the end of the world I know, but a little annoying nonetheless.

Yes - sleep was not functioning properly for me till I installed the 11.2 beta 4 build. Now it is functioning properly.

My issue as well, exactly as you described it. Been this way since 11.2 and still broken on 11.2 beta 4

Since I’ve updated my iPhone, iPad, and two Apple TV 4’s to beta 4, I’ve noticed that the Airplay 2 controls for the Apple TVs in my iOS devices’ Control Centers are missing. I long press the Music widget in Control Center, and I no longer see the sections for the Apple TVs. They were there and working fine in the last build. Anyone else having this issue? Not sure if it originates with the iOS devices or the Apple TV as I updated them all at the same time...

Do some of the folks here do a fresh install for Apple TVs when major updates are made, if so, how do they do it?

No, I never did that. I had the  tv 3, 4 and now 4k. Never had any problems.
The 4 wasn’t so smooth and had some stutter when I first upgraded to tvOS 11, though.

Thanks, I have two ATV4s, and I have wondered over the past 2 years if should at some point do a clean install.

Glad it's not just me with this problem. Sounds like a new bug Apple have introduced in 11.2, which hopefully they'll fix before the production 11.2 is released. In the meantime I've set my Harmony remote to perform a re-boot of my ATV4K every time I finish using it and that solves the problem - the ATV goes to sleep on its own, 15 minutes after re-boot.

I am trying to enroll my Apple TV 4k to the 11.2 beta. But I can't get the beta option to show in the settings. I have rebooted and signed out and back in, but nothing shows up. Is there anything I might be doing wrong?
