if you look closely at the iPhone in the background, u can see what looks like two circles. possibly a sensor or a camera. it's kind of hard to see. Pic #1 - Original, Pic #2 - Brightened.

And what about on the second phone in your shot - another circle that matches the one seen on the one demoing MobileMe. There's definitely something there - either there is a circular mark on the case, it's a reflection of a light or there's something on the front of the phone. You can't tell which, but it would be strange for a reflection to appear in the same place on all the phones and not anywhere else on the glass front. I guess we'll see on the 11th....

I SOOOOO want this to be true! I love the new 3g iPhone and am going to be inline with everyone else, but I really wanted video calling capabilities. I think this is a long shot though, I'm afraid to say. After all, a drowning man will clutch at straws ;)

I think there will be more than one commercial. If you notice in the behind the scenes type video it look like there is a guy in a suit with an ear piece, but in the current commercial the guys carrying the iPhone are just wearing sweaters, lol I just think there could be the theres one more thing.

If you click the link in my sig and take a look you will se there is info Apple is hiding until the launch.

Only time will tell for sure what it is.

These sensors are no secret... The ones on the first page anyway.

I don't think that there will be front facing camera. Given the history with the iSight it's possible, but i just don't think there will be.

OMG. I didn't think that Apple would hide hardware features. But, this picture tells us that Apple hasn't told us everything about the iPhone 3G.

I was wondering why Apple doesn't let you pre-order the iPhone 3G. But, it all makes sense now!

the first phone it is just a reflection however the second phone matches the case. Also the leaked pictures are accurate and they showed a front facing sensor on the left side as the case dose. Apple uses rendering on their site so you could never see it. It could also explain why jobs never brought on on stage. Why didn't he, there was just video. Some site have gotten their hands on it and they didn't say there was a front facing camera. The room was very brit so they couldn't see it or they couldn't talk about. I could be possible at&t didn't allow it because it would chew up data usage.

Bushman - you got it.

1. Why no live stage appearance?
2. Why no pre-order? They've done pre-orders before. We could've pre-ordered and it could've said, ships in 4 weeks. Ok, that's a bit long of a pre-order but still.

Did anyone else find it odd that the white iPhone still had a black front? I originally figured it was to make the screen look better, but maybe it was to hide all of the new sensors beneath the glass? Its a stretch, I know, but it adds to the mounting evidence that there COULD be a hidden camera in the iPhone 3G. I sure hope so.

I was just starting to lose faith in Apple and then this comes along. This seems very plausible and it would make me feel like I'm getting more value out of the increased cost of the data package. Bring on the hidden features!

There was no reason to. This isn't a new product, it is a lifecycle upgrade. Steve doesn't whip out new MacBook Pros when they up the processor. You really think that they would use it to demo the software on stage complete with numerous close up shots, but refuse to have Steve pull it out of his pocket? It doesn't make sense at all, you can't have it both ways.

There are no pre-orders because you can't buy them online, you must go in store to sign up for the AT&T contract.

If you keep expecting this, you are going to be really disappointed.

According to O2, you will be able to upgrade your iPhone contract, get a new iPhone 3G from their online store according to my email.

He does when the device is different cosmetically. The iPhone's shape/colors changed as well as weight/size. I expect nothing. But yes, these things all add up to one big curious to me.

im starting to belive thier might be one

:apple: didnt announce it had a full x-y accelramtor thing until may even though most people new it was there they didnt announce it so im startin to belive it plus with the cases gettin put out for pre order and the new longer spaces its kinda beliveable

Also, has anyone noticed that on promo pictures of the iPhone there is a second page on the home screen? This probably means nothing but it could mean that there are even more, unannounced features, like iChat.

Random - can you post the link to the exact photo you're talking about?

Ok peeps - let's put aside the front cam idea for a moment.... Why would Apple change the sensor locations? I don't recall any muttering of issues with them. Why go to the pains to change their location?

Apple has been using that promo picture since 1.1.3. The dots are there to promote the multi-page feature, nothing more. They even printed it on the boxes of the later rounds of phones after 1.1.3.

Why would they need to change the sensor locations even if there were a camera? They were at the top and pretty well out of the way. I already speculated earlier that it could be an improvement to the reliability of the proximity sensor.

Hey guys, I mentioned this in a post that I made (which was moved to the accessories page), but take a look at the cases that have been released by Belkin and Griffin (the official ones that are now listed on their websites), and then take a look at the old cases. The ones for the iPhone 3g have a wider area cut out for the speaker. This is present on all of the cases that I've seen. Unlike the picture above, however, the cut out is symmetrical on each side of the speaker.

Maybe this really is for the proximity sensor being moved? But if that's the case, why did old cases just cover up the sensor and not cut it out too? Eh, maybe this is just the new design + wishful thinking...

^Uh...I'm fairly certain that the proximity sensor has not been moved. Isn't it that speaker-like thing above the screen?

Who knows? I doubt that they moved it too, but you never know until the final device is on the store shelves. I was just pointing out that 2 case makers that I've come across over the past couple of days both leave quite a bit of space open around the speaker. Maybe something will be present in those openings? Like many others, I'm just hoping for (but by no means relying on) another "one more thing...." moment prior to the new iPhone launching.

I haven't read the posts and don't know if someone already pointed it out, but...

Macworld, Engadget, and some other site played with the iPhone 3G hands on. There were NO REPORTS of a front sided camera, although it would be awesome.

Contacts App?

I SWEAR I read on here a story a while ago that said that iPhone OS 2.0 had the contacts app on the home screen now just like iPod Touch does but I can't find it here on macrumors, however I know I am not crazy cause I found the story here at this link:

http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/03/31/iphone-os-20-leaks-gets-contacts-application-warning/

It says: "New features in the iPhone OS 2.0 release are sparse. Most significantly, there is now a “Contacts” application. Traditionally, contacts have been accessible only through the Phone application."

So what happened to that??? Can any devs in here with the 2.0 firmware confirm? Why are there all these lingering questions after the keynote?

I know it may seem naive but I am really beginning to think that Apple will announce a few more things when the iPhone launches on July 11th like they did with the first one and the YouTube & glass screen etc. I dunno about a cam and iChat though, that seems like a big stretch!
