Unsuccessful atempts to get $20 unlimited data plan for iphone 2g

NikeTalk is an ass, you don't need 2 sim cards. Not sure where he got that, just ignore him.

Just wait until the online account updates. It can take a day or longer. If not just call CSR and they should be able to help you out.

Okay, I will wait a day. Just don't know what to say if i talk to a CSR cause they will just tell me they no longer offer unlimited plans. Thanks
 
When you guys got your sim card did they scan it to your account? I went in today and asked for a sim card for an iphone 2g that I will be getting tomorrow. He asked for the phone # it would be used on and scanned it. Is that right?

I'm pretty sure they activated it, which means it won't work. When I got mine the person asked what phone it would be used on and I just said I wasn't sure yet. They always scan the card for the sales receipt, but not onto your account.

Well since you have the 2g unlimited data, you are automatically grandfathered into unlimited 3g. If you have to call just tell them you have an iPhone 2g and just got an iPhone 3g that you want to switch to. They should put you on $30 unlimited.

Just play dumb don't give anymore info that's necessary. I just asked for a sim card.

The manager in the store I go to knows about this and he guaranteed that if I brought it in I'll get unltd data. He was right!

if this doesn't work then I guess you may have to sign up with T-Mobile and or Verizon and get grandfathered into their unlimited plan...................

Maybe try this?

I am not sure why folks are jump thru so many hoops for att unlimited, just get the vzw iphone, it has unlimited and you don't have to jump thru hoops!;)

I prefer AT&T over VZW. The only hard part is getting hold of a 2G. If you talk to any corporate store they will confirm that since you have an unltd 2G data plan you are eligible for unltd smartphone data, at least all the corporate stores in my area.

I called them up and asked them to switch me over, she saw my $20 data plan, but then upon looking at my past bill history saw that i have the 2gb plan, so no go for me :( I think I will try another CSR a little later

Ok I called the store back and talked to the guy who gave me the sim card and he said it is unactivated. He said he just scanned it because they have to for their inventory.

You are playing it wrong! Don't call them up and say 'switch me over'.

Say I currently have an iPhone 2G. I just bought XYZ. What are my options?

Go to a corporate store.
 
OK, yet another question about the process. I went to the other forum posted on a link above. On there it said after resetting the phone, to NOT turn on the phone before connecting USB to iTunes. Is this correct? Will the phone power on automatically when connected?

All I did was restore the phone then put the sim in activated it through iTunes then I was set. It showed up in my AT&T online account right away.

So are you saying your phone was on when you connected to iTunes?

On a side note, I got three 8GB iPhone 2G's in excellent working and physical condition, all jailbroken and unlocked with 3.1.3.

I've been thinking of relinquishing them in hopes to get an iPad 2. How much have you bought yours on CraigsList and eBay?

Yes activated the 2G in the normal process.

1- restored 2G first
2- put sim after it was restored
3- hooked it up to iTunes when it was on
4- started activation process with phone # related to line
5- got notification activation was complete
6- went online and $20 unltd iPhone data was on the line
7- went to corporate store with my device that I received and got set up with unltd smartphone data because of being grandfathered from the unltd data from the iPhone 2G.

Easy peasy. Don't give any info that isn't necessary.

Thanks. iphone 2g should be here today. Will let you know how it works out.

One more question for you. After the 2g did you upgrade to an iphone or some other smartphone.

I got a 2G that I bought just to get unlimited. Now I need to get rid of it. $80 shipped. PM me.
