activated 1st generation with unlimited +200sms no problems. Already had a blank virgin SIM, so that is not a problem, however, now will have to go to the store to get new microSIM form my i4g...
Question. I did 2g activation about 4hours ago (0500CDT), how long do I have to wait to re-activate i4 with unlimited via a trip to the store? (online account page already updated and showing unlimited data+200sma plan for $20)

i plan on getting a VZW iphone 4 tomorrow, was wondering how the unlimited plan works, or is that all they have right now? also, will that mean i'll be grandfathered in with this unlimited plan forever?

Yes, they still offer unlimited data until summer. They also say those who get it now will be grandfathered in for Unlimited LTE use as well.
I just had an Inspire for 2 weeks and am now gonna run back to an iPhone. I just can't handle the Android.

well, I cut mini-SIM to a micro-SIM form-factor, put it n my i4 last night. This morning I get a message that my data plan has been adjusted (via SMS and email), so I logged into my account again - it shows unlimited. No longer has options of $20+200/$30+1500 and etc... So they basically added a $5mo messaging plan and $30mo data plan. I do not see a need to even go to the store at this point.
* * * There is a reason I did this right now - I was told (first hand and by a reliable source) that there is 'a very good chance of NOT being able to get unlimited data by ANY means, if I wait until the first of the month'... So I ended up jumping.
Side note: olam has never reflected removal of my FAN account, despite the message from itunes during 2g activation that it will be removed. Basically I think they were blowing smoke up my @$$.

As long as you have unltd 2G data before that date you should be able to get unltd smartphone data after.
online CSR is currently telling me that AT&T does not offer unlimited data anymore for the 2G.

My 3GS is still on an unlimited data plan. When iPhone 5 comes out, not sure if I can still keep my unlimited data plan if I don't change the sim/number but just buy a new iPhone 5 with 2 year contract.

You've already posted virtually the same thing in this thread.
And yet you have no explanation to HOW this is - in any way - "criminal" or "stealing data". Are you really that dense? Find another thread to troll, and before anyone says it, yeah you are a troll.
It's ironic that somewhere in one of these threads (maybe this one; didn't look back on all the posts) whereby someone spoke of an AT&T corporate store manager helping them get the unlimited plan through this soon to be plugged (?) loophole. And for that matter, store employees know about it, and have helped customers out to get it. Again, this is anecdotal from what I've read.
Given these facts:
- is AT&T hiring unethical employees?
- is/has AT&T charged anyone with breaking the law (as you do claim it is a crime)? Yeah, I know, a corporate giant isn't going to take the time/trouble to go after "petty criminals".
- is taking advantage of a loophole akin to a crime?
- seems if one simply plugs in a first gen iPhone to iTunes, the unlimited data plan is still there (at least it used to be; apparently this is going away according to the above posts?) -- and thus you are eligible for "grandfathered in" unlimited data status according to their OLAM system. Crime?
How about the fine print in contracts you sign (be it an automobile purchase, cable TV subscription, opening a bank account) which isn't available upon completion of the transaction unless you know to ask for it -- because the sales-folk who is cashing in on you doesn't offer up this info right then and there? And consequently, you probably have to go online and download some arcane and hard to find PDF file with all kinds of legalese terms. Yes, this pisses me off! But even so, I don't consider it a crime.
Point being is this goes both ways: Corporate America takes advantage of the unknowing consumer, and (more rarely) the knowing consumer finds an occasional way to take advantage of Corporate America.

hey everyone. finally interested in doing this. I'll be opening a line with att probably by this weekend. I've read a few things about people having trouble getting att to honor getting grandfathered in so I was wondering if anyone has a concrete experience where they just blatantly refused to do it.
oh and if anyone has a 2g iphone they'd be willing to sell me please let me know

I'm unable to find an iPhone 2G anywhere, I don't have enough time to buy it on eBay (because of the supposed patching of the loophole on AT&T's end on April 30th), have it shipped to me and then the activation process etc. Also, craigslist is out of the question because there are none being sold close to me.
I have nothing else left to do except to ask a good soul out there with an iPhone 2g on hand to activate it for me (I'll provide them with my account info to activate it on my number etc.) and then send me the sim card via mail.
I know this is a long stretch but it's the only thing I can think of with so little time left.

It's mentioned a few pages back in this thread. It's not definite but possible that At&t will patch this up, so no more loophole. I don't want to take the risk and this is the only opportunity I have to get unltd data. Still looking for a good soul out there
