guys guys guys,

So on the tech spec page for the new 5K it says 'Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display, and up to two 4096-by-2160 external displays or one 5120-by-2880 dual-cable external display'

...so you can at least have a 5k external with two thunderbolt cables. Oddly there is no mention of target display for any iMac models, maybe they have removed the feature altogether?

Just ordered the i5 with M395X and 512 GB Flash Drive :)

Will get it either this week or on 19/10 - any things I shall test?

Wondering which one to get..

i7 with R9 390 or 395? I do mostly Lightroom photo editing RAW images

-21.5" with no dGPU now, on either Retina or Non-Retina.

-Happy to see 4K iMac come in at $1499. 4K displays, unlike 5K, has been out for awhile.

-El Cap code was correct; M380, M390, and M395 for the 27". 2GB of VRAM is a little disappointing to see when all the PC counterparts got 4 and 8GB of VRAM. You would think this would be a no-brainer for a 5K display machine.

-Magic Trackpad and Mouse 2.

-No DDR4 RAM.

It's Broadwell guys. Skylake chips don't have Iris Pro yet but HD 530.

Edit: Auto correct spelling

The 1 TB SSD upgrade is still ridiculously expensive. I guess it will be 512 GB SSD for most people then.

At least the prices didn't rise in Germany. Now we get 2 CPU generations further for roughly the same amount of money. I think I will still wait with my order until I can see some benchmarks and see if the whole heat issue is solved. If the difference on both is marginal I rather buy a used "old" Retina iMac since Thunderbolt 3 didn't happen.

So seeing as we know what we are getting does anyone have any thoughts on the optimum configuration?

What improvement are we likely to see with a 395X compared to a 395 or 390?

I wonder if target display mode could be something they enable in a later OS update with this refresh? I'm pretty sure I remember that happening with a past Mac model, just can't remember which.

Configurable up to 32GB RAM ?
I thought Skylake supports up to 64GB?

I hope we can Max out in after market upgrades!

From the new iMac 'performance' page:

'A fifth-generation Intel Core processor in the 21.5-inch iMac. An all-new sixth-generation Intel Core processor in the 27-inch iMac'

so looks like Broadwell in the 21.5inch and Skylake in the 27?
