So any one figured out how to use two pages side by side in this new version of Pages? It was very easy in Pages 09 and very useful when behind a 27" screen, but it looks like Apple stripped that option?

This is Apple being generous. It is registering the presence of DVD-installed apps as a proof of purchase. They didn't need to do that, and indeed, it also means that pirates get the update free.

I guess the point, from Apple's perspective, is that the number of these pirates is (I'd guess) so low, they aren't worth penalising legitimate users for. An excellent attitude.

Very generous indeed. Offering such robust apps at the price of free is going to mean tough competition for Microsoft and Google especially now that iWork has collaborative features.

New version of Garageband is missing the effects! It doesn't really concern me as I use Logic Pro X, but what is going on?

It gives an option for adding Audio Unit plugins if you open up an old project while a new project doesn't even give you that option. All the default effects that came with Garageband have been removed.

That now is a separate $4.99 IAP.

Hmmm I like that the Mac iMovie now more easily support AVCHD, in that it imports it without having to convert to the insane uncompressed files, but shame that it also copies it to the iMovie folder. I guess for most people that is fine, just wish you had the option to not copy it in case you have a master location of AVCHD. And having some options to lower the bitrate would have been nice too but hey ho, cant have it all I guess :)

GB not ready for prime time.

The new Garage Band won't open my files from the previous upgrade. It asks me to save them as a new name, then hangs and becomes unresponsive. It's like a federal government agency made it.

Actually Apple said it was a free upgrade

To be honest on their website they state the iWorks upgrades are free. They have not indicated anywhere that if you have physical copies you have to repurchase, nor have they stated that free upgrades are only free for purchases made in the App Store. Except that the App Store asks you to pay. Surely then, to charge is breaking consumer law? I think people might challenge this.
Very messy indeed. Go back and listen to the presentation: at least one of the statements made indicate that the upgrade is free no matter what.
Very messy and unclear!

Can anyone who now has the iOS version of Pages tell me if the updated version allows you to alter the Vertical and Horizontal margins ?

The vertical ones I believe are adjustable on the mac version anyway but the iCloud ones are still not present and I cant adjust the horizontal either. So can anyone let me know about the iOS version.

Thanks

I´m still waiting for mine to update, this is really annoying.

Also still not updating for me. Neither iLife nor iWorks. Both were DVD purchases. The "Test account" solution also didn't work for me. Getting very frustrated.

Apple are such liars. Yesterday they told us the iWork apps were FREE now but when i go to either Mac App Store or iOS App Store, they offer me to purchase them for their regular price.

Some very bad business practices on the side of Apple. Deceiving their customers like that is very immature.

I'm very disappointed.

Having some time to spare I´m gonna try this:

- Format the HDD
- Downgrade to Mountain Lion
- Reinstall iWork
- Upgrade to Mavericks
- Profit?

I´ll report later if I´m successful.

Well to be fair. They said they would be free for NEW Macs and iOS devices. And Updates should be free. If you never before purchased any of these and are not on a "new" device they wouldn't be free...

They did not say they would be free only for NEW macs during the presentation.

Upgrade Working

I have an older copy of iWork 09 installed via CD. The update is processing for me now - the new Pages and Numbers have already installed. Props to Apple for being forward thinking about software upgrades, and for finally giving some long-needed attention to the iWork suite.

Apple has removed most scripting support from iWork '13. And Numbers is no closer to being a replacement for Excel.

I guess it was probably too much to ask from Apple to essentially be addressing the enterprise. For most casual users Numbers is enough and iWork '13 should take some Office 365 customers away.

AppleScript has peaked and seems to be on its way out though :(

Sweet! I had the old DVD copies of the apps installed on my computer and the MAS just gave me the update for free (you have to sign in to your Apple ID each time). It's also showing up under my purchases tab in the MAS; I wonder if that means I can install it on my other comp that doesn't have iWork on it. Gonna be interesting to find out.

Quite a pleasant surprise. I thought I'd have to wait until I buy my next comp to upgrade my iWork suite.

What they told is that it is free for NEWLY PURCHASED (and activated) Mac and iOs products. Not free in general! Listen first, then complain

Keynote, Pages and Numbers are all crashing upon launch on my MacBook Pro.

Here's a quote from Apple website:
* Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after October 1, 2013. OS X Mavericks required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.

The same thing was said in the keynote multiple times.

That being said, I just received the updates too, though I have the DVD version of iWork '09 installed. Most likely you will too, so have at least a little bit of patience.

Edit: BTW, great news to Aperture users: just as with iWork, the DVD-version now appears as a purchase in MAS!

I was able to install iLife apps for free. Even tho I don't have a new mac and I didn't previously own iLife
