Hey all, in about a month im going to upgrade from 2017 ipad pro 12.9 to 2018 pro 12.9(should i wait for another new model maybe?) and i am watching videos on youtube about it to get hype and there are so many videos saying the 2018 is super fragile and breaks incredibly easy and bends. is this an inflated issue like with iphone bendgate(3 iphone 6 in my family never bent or broke and non of my dozens of friends ever had issues) or something really bad?
youtubers are out here legit snapping them in half with their bare hands, or unboxing them slightly bent already

I’d say the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The new iPads seem a bit more fragile compared to the older ones but make no mistake anything this thin could bend it made of metal, especially made from aluminium.

If you do your research on this board and read older posts from when the first units shipped you’ll see that especially the cellular models were often reported to have the issue.

The 2016 and 2017 iPads bent easily too, it’s only logical that this new thinner iPad can bend too. Just treat the iPad like you paid a lot of money for it and you should be fine. ;)

These new iPads are no more fragile than the old ones, but you may find yourself (like me) being more precious about them, because they are really sexy pieces of tech.

If you look after your stuff (and by the fact that you are asking this question, I think you do) then it will be fine. If you're sensitive about scratches/dings just get a case - especially with Space Grey. Also consider AppleCare plus which will cover you for a couple of years of 'major' incidents.

Never mind upgrading from the 2017 it’s puting me off upgrading my 2015 gen 1. Which it’s getting on it’s still pretty quick for the tasks I use it for.

I can only speak from personal experience, but after owning mine for half a year and carrying it in my bag and backpack daily, I can notice a very slight.... no, actually, it's perfectly flat. Love it, one of my favorite Apple devices ever.

I do treat my tech like a newborn baby. I never drop or knock things over when it comes to my phone, iPad, MacBook (knocking on wood now). I just don’t want my future iPad Pro to bend carrying it in my backpack or laptop messenger crossbody bag. It will always be in a folio magnetic cover or a case of some sort

For the hefty price i pay ....yeah i baby all my apple devices:D; they always look pristine clean for re-sale

The Pro 11' is my main device at home and travels, I protected it with a 3rd party case right from unboxing and have no issues whatsoever.

    Another happy camper here..:)

Having myself faced various problems with recent years’ iPad pros I would rather wait until Apple at least fixes bending and touchscreen issues with all new iPads. Hopefully.
