Upgrading Mac Studio storage

I have raised dispute in my bank already received temporary refund. If he can cancel my order it get confirmed.
I received a refund directly from Polysoft today. Ordered on 2025-10-24. Paid via wire transfer.
After having received a tracking number from UPS last week I've now had an email from Polysoft acknowledging my refund request which will work out well for me as I had ordered a module from ALiExpress after sending my refund request many weeks ago.
I'm planning to do the upgrade tomorrow but my M1 Macbook is running Ventura 13.7 and the Apple Configurator in the app store is only for 15.7 or later. Anyone know how I can get the older Configurator 2?

I am sorry to have to tell you, the Apple Configurator require macOS Sequoia 15.7 or later now.
There is no other option.
I ran into this issue a few days ago, when I replaced the SSDs on a Mac Pro 2019.
How do I know this?
I started with the Sonoma version on my mac mini. It warned that it needed to be updated, but let me ignore the warning.
Then tried with my iMac Pro with and macOS Monterey. It explicitly stated I had to use macOS Sequoia 15.7 or later.

When I restore my Macstudio is there a way the Configurator can be made to install 15.7 or later rather than Tahoe, I have read that if I drag a .IPSW onto the DFU window that would work, any idea where I can find such a file.

You are welcome.
I would suggest you use the Option-Shift-Command-R option, it will install the original macOS for your mac Studio.
Afterwards you can choose the version you wish to install from Apple Store
Just wondering. Is the Aliexpress store the same as Polysoft, or did the Chinese company that created the first batch now sell it? Did he get ripped off by the copy-cats🤔?

I don't believe they are the same operation. The top is the Ali one and the bottom is the Poly one.
The work on the Polysoft drive is a lot more meticulous. There appear to be slight differences on the PCB/surface components as well.
The black stickers covering the location where the Polysoft markings are on the Ali drive are interesting, but they could have ordered blank PCB or had someone reverse engineer them. Pure guess on that one as I don't have the Ali one anymore to see what's under there.

I need to follow up again, since my previous attempts to reach you directly — by email, through your shop’s contact form, and in my last post here — have gone unanswered.
Despite my explicit request for a refund of €919 for order EIJFPZUJX (October 2023), I have now received a UPS tracking link for a kit that I no longer need. I already requested a refund in November, and shipping a product now - without consultation - does not address the actual problem.
The order was listed as "in stock" at the time, yet nothing was delivered. In the meantime, I had to source an alternative SSD kit elsewhere, making your product irrelevant to me at this point.
I therefore repeat my request, publicly and unambiguously: please cancel the shipment and issue the immediate refund of the amount requested in November. After these many months of delays, further complications are not acceptable.
I hope this matter can finally be resolved promptly.

I was in a similar position, issued a deadline of Nov 21st to polysoft, then requested a refund (also contacted my bank for charge back) no response, so ordered from AliExpress. Last week I suddenly got a message from UPS saying my parcel would arrive the next day, it didn't. A week later, yesterday, I finally got an email from Polysoft, apologies and acknowledgement of my refund request. Tracking info changed from 'cleared customs' to 'lable printed, package not received'. So at least I don't have an unwanted extra module, not actually received the refund yet, it's a bit soon. So as long as I get the refund eventually, all good.
I would have preferred to buy from Polysoft but it was not to be. I hope they manage to keep going and not fold, I would like to think it's not a deliberate scam just unfortunate situation.

PS installed the AliExpress and all seems to work very well.
I tried using Apple Configurator from my M1 MacBook to restore the Mac Studio, but after a couple of unsuccessful attempts, tried connecting the two Macs without running Apple Configurator.
The system recognized that there was an active DFU and started the restore procedure.
Everything went fine, so I think you can do the same thing. Of course, this way you'll be installing the latest available OS, which unfortunately is Tahoe.

After a very long and painful battle with local FedEx, I finally received my Fangyuan 8TB Kit!
I’ll install it tomorrow and hopefully be able to restore my UniversalMac_15.3.2_24D2082_Restore.ipsw.
However… I have no manual or documentation.
Which SSD card goes where?
I have no idea which one is the main board, which is secondary, etc.
Any help or photo reference would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Idk that it's always the same option. DHL was my only option and they held it for 2 days before charging me $60 to release it on top of tariffs. I did dispute it with them and got it back though.
If you message Fangyuan on Ali with your model, he should give you instructions quickly if he's online. I saw in the Polysoft manual that the positions are different between Max and Ultra, so I would ask if you are AT ALL confused.
Are you saying that you got charged tariffs or a brokerage fee by DHL on top of what you paid on AliExpress? The Fangyuan order page directly states that import charges are included, so I'm very surprised there would be any additional costs to release the shipment to you. Sounds like DHL were either confused, or trying to scam some money out of you, thinking that people are also confused about the tariff situation.
The seller on Ali will have the SSD'd marked. The slot that is currently populated on the M4 will be the Main or 00 slot and 01 will go into the empty slot.
I used a MacBook with Ventura to do my restore with a pre-downloaded IPSW file from Mr. Macintosh. Obviously you have to decided if you trust them but there are old versions of configurator out there.

Its insane that we cant reuse the old/replaced SSD, not even as extra storage on the second slot.
