Usually not, all depends how busy they are but they typically prefer you to go earlier.
Now that everything has shipped according to Apple, I know which tracking number is for which item. UPS has confirmed possession of my AirPods, but not the watch or the phone.
It'll be at the stores discretion. I got there about 30 minutes early one year and it wasn't an issue. If it's quite a bit earlier than your window then they might take issue and ask you to come back.
LOL, I did exactly the same thing! I loved picking up my iPhone at the UPS CC every year when the doors opened: no wait, and the UPS people knew me and what I was there to pick up. Stop by the Apple Store for the vibe, set up my phone…I really enjoyed it.
Tomorrow, I wait in the pickup line at the Apple Store. 😊
For those keeping score according to UPS, my iPhone package weighs 1 pound, my AirPods package weighs 0.7 pounds, and my Apple Watch Ultra 3 package weighs 1.5 pounds.

I used to do it every year until last year when UPS closed their CC center here in Lubbock,

They try to push to a UPS store now.
Recommend don’t change to UPS store delivery because it could cost you a delay over just having it shipped to your home.
In my experience, if you show up too early, you will be directed to return at your reserved scheduled window for pick up. Should people randomly start arriving way ahead of time, the normally crazy crowded Apple stores on launch day will be impossible to manage. That 'sort of well-oiled' Apple reserved instore pickup routine would collapse. At other times you can show up (Genius Bar, for example) and they will try to work you in.

Made that mistake once and it delayed it to the following business day, Monday.
My flight lands around an hour before my appointment but the last few weeks shows its been landing earlier than scheduled. Worst case the Apple Store is in a mall so I can kill time window shopping if they turn me away.
My CC refused to give me my phone on launch day in 2020 despite them marking it as ready for pickup. They claimed it was a mistake and apparently all phones had to be delivered to the actual address. Very odd since I never had that issue any year before that. Thankfully it came later that evening but annoyingly didn't even have me sign for it.
Since then the CC never comes up for any packages in general as a pick up option.
Does anyone know when the stores get in-store pickup inventory? None of my orders have changed yet.

When I lived in Philly they were strict. But they also had extremely long lines on launch day.
Where I live now. There aren’t long lines. I did store pickup last year here and the launch day line was 2 people when I arrived during my window.
I’d wager here wouldn’t care.

In store pickup orders are set to Ready For Pickup the evening before launch in my experience. So ISPU folks should see movement tonight.
Chicago here. Had the same status up until 15 min ago where it updated to UPS has the package in Louisville, KY. No mention of Indiana anymore 🧐
