I'll be giving that a shot this year. Phone-to-phone was always the most comprehensive way to transfer everything and since I am moving from a 15 Pro, it should be fast if I use a USB 3.2 cable.

I have started several new MBPs from scratch, it took me months to get all my applications and files synced to where I wasn't having to interrupt my work to install that app I'd not yet used.

If you live a simple life, it'd be easy to start over. In my life it'd take months.

In 18 years I don't recall bringing any old "bugs" to my new iPhone... . I get the theory, but in practice... , not necessary.
How often are the "bugs" in the data? Not a rhetorical question, sincere question.

If an issue with iOS, connect to Mac and 'Restore' for a fresh install of iOS

If an issue with an app, delete and reinstall the app. In any case, phone to phone Migration re-downloads the apps, I believe.

It’s my first time picking up at Apple and was hoping to trade in when I pick up. Can I trade in to the same person who hands me my phone or am I gonna be shuffled to some other line with a long wait? Whenever I picked up non iPhones from Apple they hand me product and get rid of me as fast as possible.

Yeah normally it says it on the UPS site if indeed it is Signature Required.
I find it very inconsistent. I did ask my UPS driver a couple months ago about it and he said they had a deal with Apple and everything has to have a signature. I had another UPS driver this week drop off my cases and he just rang the doorbell and walked away. I went out an asked him and he said he does whatever their app/scanner says when they scan it. Sometimes required, other times not. For something like this I just plan on being home all afternoon.

Yes. You will hand it in to the same person.

I've been changing phone every 2 years for a while now and I always liked to start fresh because over the years I tend to download and accumulate too many apps (that sometimes I'm not even using anymore). Since the pictures and messages will be there because of iCloud, I prefer to just download again the apps I really need and use... with time, when I need them.

BUT this year I changed the pattern and got the 17Pro even though I have the 16Pro, so just a year of apps. Plus, I'm going to pick up at the store for the first time and because of the iPhone upgrade program, I will have to return mine right away instead of having a couple days making sure everything is good to go in the new one (and ship the old one later).

So, I believe this time I will have to restore the bkp and just bring everything to the new because I can't spend hours at the store setting up the new one and making sure I didn't forget anything.

Any tips? How long it usually takes? What's the best way to do it?

Thank you!

According to my UPS man, Apple requires a signature for almost all products. The reason for no online signature option this year is due to the bad guys out there figuring out how to sign for Apple products online and then stealing the Apple packages. So my UPS man said to tell you all to be prepared to need an in person signature for your delivery’s tomorrow.

All my orders are showing as in UPS’s possession and scheduled for pickup — except for my phone. My wife’s phone, my AirPods, the new watch band for her (purple fog!).. that’s all good to go. But, the one device that I really, really care about getting here on time? Yeah, that’s still pending.

Oh well, at least my wife will have a new toy. I'm sure mine will ultimately show up tomorrow too though, just wish it would be scanned!

Is anyone that order in home delivery taking their trade in to Apple/carrier store instead of mailing it back? I’ve heard sometimes phones get lost and with in store you get a receipt

Just take it to the UPS Store or Fed Ex store, assuming that there is one near you. Apple is already sending you a prepaid label. Just put your iPhone in the box, put the return label on there and take it to the UPS Store. Apple has already insured the return package, You don't have to worry if it gets lost or stolen in the mail. Once you get a receipt with a tracking number from the UPS Store you are all set.

Even if the UPS agent turns around and throws your return box in the dumpster or sells it to a crackhead down the street, you are not going to be penalized by Apple.

Most Apple stores are not going to mail it back for you anyway, especially if you ordered and had the new phone delivered to your home address. Way too time consuming for them.
