care of vaja leather

In my search for care of the Vaja leather, I found this on a Vaja site:

"PROPER LEATHER; MAINTENANCE & CLEANING
One a week, polish the leather with dry and clean cloth or soft and mild brush. With this minimal care your leather product will provide long- lasting use. We recommend using a natural cream. (Eg: Meltonian). Sparingly applied with a soft clean cloth and then brushing the polish immediately after.

GENERAL INDICATIONS
1/Do not put adhesive sticker, glue will permanently mark the case surface.
2/Do not over- stuff credit cards slots or money pockets. Doing so will stretch the leather.
3/Leather breathes, that is what keeps, is soft and supple. Do not store the case in plastic bags. Cover your leather with breathable cloth like cotton sheets when storing.
-Hereby we will provide some suggestions (though they should not be considered as solutions) about how to proceed in some common situations that may occur.
NOTE: If these procedures do not work for you, consult a professional leather care expert. Vaja will not assume any responsibility for damage incurred by owners based on information provided here.

Water
If they are only drops, press firmly with absorbent paper on the surface and then let them dry in the shade. Please do not apply completely dry, rub the surface with a clean and dry cloth to restore the shine.
If your case becomes wet, as fast, as you can, take an absorbent paper and soak up, do not rub just blot. Allow it to dry slowly and naturally at room temperature, avoiding direct heat: hot air vents, radiators, furnaces, Air dryers, or sunlight. When leather is dry, apply a little uncolored leather polish
(Eg: Meltonian), on it to restore flexibility. This can help, but unfortunately your case never will look the same.

Oil
For butter, oil, or grease, wipe excess butter oil or grease off the leather with absorbent paper and then leave it alone as the spot should dissipate into the leather in time. Do not apply water to try to wash, a butter, oil or grease spot.

Ink
Do not wet the stain or apply, solvent alcohol, or water. With a clean, white and soft pencil eraser, press softly erasing the pen stain. Follow the procedure again if necessary. Then rub with a cloth or an extremely soft brush to remove the remaining rubber. If necessary, apply only uncolored leather polish over the area. Let it dry and rub with a dry cloth to restore shine. In vaja leathers this procedure helps to diminish the stain and according to the leather tone itself, it can even disappear completely. Do not try to use this procedure to remove ink stains in Aniline leathers, these leathers have no protective treatments applied to them, the stain is likely to remain. Do not try to remove it with our suggestions or your own method. Leave the stain, within a few months. Aniline leathers will darken slightly and begin to develop a rich patina.

Scratch marks
Scratch- marks simply, do not go away, and tend to get bigger with use. However, if it does happen, you could try using some uncolored leather polish (Eg.Meltonian) to cover the scratch. If it is small, this might repair it or at least hide it, but otherwise it is there for good."

You can easily find Meltonian at your local shoe repair store. I bought some last year with my first Vaja. I also use it on my Black Leather Smart Cover and Sena Ultra Slim sleeve.

Also available on Amazon (but what isn't, really?).

I read something about magnetic closure. I am no native speaker, does that mean triggering the sleep function or holding the cover closed too?

Received my Vaja from cases.com. It's a beautiful piece of work. It was also easy for me to install my Ipad. Two issues bother me. The front cover does not completely cover the Ipad when closed. Part of the bezel is visible unless I pull the cover over. This may change with time. It doesn't seem to affect the sleep/wake feature. A more serious issue for me is the fact that when the front cover is folded back, it sometimes turns the Ipad off. I know this has been an issue with other cases. I suppose the magnet is a little too strong, but was surprised this happens with the Vaja. Not sure if I'll be able to use the case because of this (sigh).

We have 3 vaja cases in our company 2 are brown with microfiber and 1 with Black leather instead. All 3 have the magnet issue, however I have noticed over time the case will stretch a little to close at the bezel just keep stretching it out when you close it. All in all great cases the fit could be a little better but probably the best out there

When I first got it, I didn't feel that the cover comletely covered the bezel when closed, either, but now after a week of use, it completely covers it perfectly. I also have had a few incidences of the cover turning the IPad off when it is folded back. Still love it, despite its quirks!

The issue of the front cover not completely covering the Ipad when closed is not a big deal for me. I figure it might stretch out with time. Even if it doesn't, as long as the sleep/wake feature works I'd be happy.

However, the second issue is a biggie. Pretty much the cover will turn off the ipad when folded back unless I stretch the cover so it sticks out noticeably over the back OR I put it in typing mode and try and hold it that way. I have to give it some more time, but this is a disappointment, especially for such an expensive case.

Is this happening all the time? I had it happen once or twice when I first got the case, but not all the time.

I've only had the case for a couple of days. So far the holdback/turnoff issue seems to be happening about 25-30 percent of the time. When it turns off, I can move the front cover around a bit until the IPad comes back on. Maybe I'll learn how to hold it better with time.

Vaja has the black libretto in stock.

Ooo cool. I ordered that exact spec 2 weeks ago so I might get mine soon. Received my iPad yesterday and I'm being very gentle with it until waiting for my case to arrive.

I am very happy with my Vaja Libretto. I ordered one in black from cases.com on Tuesday (with the 15% off and free shipping code) and received it Friday. It is very sleek and the leather feels outstanding. The interior microfiber definitely seems to be higher quality than the Apple Smart Cover. It has turned off a few times while I was using it due to the magnet location, but that doesn't bother me. I had the same issue as a few other posters where the front didn't completely covered the bezel at first, but it has already stretched out and fits very well now. I don't see myself purchasing another case as this one is nearly perfect for me.

Unboxing videos are a concept in modern culture I will probably never grasp.

I was/am a bit confused by them sometimes as well -- although when they are of something I am interested in or want buy I actually enjoy them... Especially in the case of a product that I can't go into a store to look at... So for something like a raja case I think they are interesting.

LOL, I so agree with you. I don't understand the "unboxing appeal." Just show me the product and how you use it - get on with it already!

I've spent some more time with the Libretto, and am warming up to it. The cover has stretched out a bit and now closing it is not an issue. When folded back, I've learned to hold the cover slightly to the left (looking down at the case), so I don't accidentally trigger the sleep feature. It seems to be working out well. I hope Apple doesn't come out with some"must have" update for the IPad which will render my whole set-up obsolete (OK, I know they will eventually do this, but hope it takes them awhile).

Unboxing videos are so much fun! I am fascinated by them. I guess it is something you either like or not.

I like watching video reviews of some products. It's a great way to see how things are used. I guess I don't get the unboxing part. I'd rather watch someone handle an IPad case (or whatever) who has some experience using the product, and can point out good and bad points about it. The unboxers are handling the product for the first time and are not familiar with it, and thus their reviews are not as helpful.

This is correct. I just got my case and this is annoying.

In other news, Vaja failed to ship my case in the timeframe they promised so I canceled it via credit card company because I cannot call them nor they have responded to the email inquiry.

Instead order from cases.com
