Verizon 4S Preorder Status Thread

I am in the same situation as you. I'm leaving town late morning on Friday and would like to get my iPhone before I leave. I inquired with Verizon today who informed me that FedEx will be the overnight shipper, however they'll provide the tracking number only once the shipper has shipped it. I'm hoping that I'll be able to have FedEx leave it at the facility where hopefully I'll be able to pick it up in the morning. Otherwise, it won't be delivered to my home until after 6PM.
applecare+ would be a better deal than VS's Insurance. $99 for 2 years vs. $264 for 2 years
I'm getting it, just because I've had it for the past two years with my blackberry and they've been super helpful and quick about sending a new phone.
Sucks that the deductible is so high though.
It was $199 + 5% Sales Tax ($10) for an iPhone 4S 16GB Black, the standard retail price. No Shipping. I carefully looked for mention of deposit and found none. Grand total was like ~$209.
I vaguely remember doing this a long long time ago (months and months ago, before iP4S) and being told I had to pay a deposit up front but I can't remember who it was I ordered through, VZW ATT or Apple.
EDIT: If deposit was on the first bill, I wouldn't mind so much if I knew what the despot was (paycheck shuffling). Would they tell me when I call to activate, perhaps? Just wanted someone to confirm they had to pay deposit already.

Definitely get it.
Applecare+ does not cover theft/loss, Assurion does.
I've had Assurion for around 3 years and they've always given me great service.
If you're tight on money then you can go for Applecare+, but just know that if you lose the phone or if it's stolen you're preeeety screwed!
VZW on Twitter today said they are currently being shipped to them from Apple, to then be shipped by them. They also said they only ship Fedex.
well hopefully fedex doesnt do the split thing where they deliver to USPS and then I have to depend on them. I often do not receive packages from USPS that they claim are delivered.
I've had UPS do the same thing (specifically when ordering from American Eagle) and it adds another day to my shipping time. I don't think they'll do this, they seem pretty set on delivering them on the 14th.
Both myself and the wife switched to Verizon from AT&T...although AT&T is good where I live, it is absolutely horrific where I work...I am lucky to receive 20% of actual calls....
Secondly, I left AT&T because of this whole fiasco in regards to upgrade eligibility dates...I purchased my iPhone 4 on its release date, and had a upgrade date 6 weeks after my buddies, who sat in the same line with me as we waited...
AT&T gave me this BS reason that back in 2006 my account was suspended...which was actually their fault, as i switched from a NY # to a illinois #...so they at first kept billing for two lines, although it was a switch...the rep said it is noted in the system that it was their error, however there was nothing she or her manager could do change the "suspended" status...
I gladly said goodbye AT&T!!!!!

ordered 64GB black at 10:15am EST on friday morning.. email says 10/14 but the order status page says 10/21 still.. ordered on the business B2B website. anyone else?
Has anybody who preordered on Verizon's website (i.e., not store.apple.com) had their credit card charged yet? I'm curious...
When I put in my preorder number onto that online checker tool, I get this:
"We are unable to locate your order at this time. Please check the information you entered and try again."
But when I put in the order number, I get what you get macman.
I called Verizon two days ago and they say that the preorder is in their system and everything is good to go, so I hope that is the case for me.
Fingers crossed I get it on the 14th, ordered it at 12:10am on Friday, right when it opened.

not charged yet, verizon doesn't place the charge until shipping/very close to shipping.
i'm curious how verizon is calculating tax. They charged me $56 tax (8.5% on the full retail price) on the 16gb 4S, but some people are only getting charged tax on the sale price of the phone.
are you using the preorder confirmation number or the order number? Need to use the preorder confirmation number (idk why)
They calculate it on the full retail price of the iPhone, which I think for the 16GB is something like $649.
I have that same problem too, but try entering the preorder number. For me, entering the preorder number doesn't give me anything either, it tells me its an invalid number, but when calling 1800-2-JOIN-IN they verify that my order is in their system and will ship on the 14th.
