I dont know that I would stand in line either. Too old for this type of thing.
However, what I don't understand is why so many people are so negative about what other do for fun.

I can see this being entertainment for some people. If they enjoy hanging out for fun of it in exchange for freezing their butts off, then who are we to criticize? Its a free country, let them live their life and do as they please.

Cant we all just get along?

If you've been waiting years for the iPhone it is completely understandable.

what is astonishing is the number of people who still don't understand the concept of product cycles..i am dying for an iphone, but i have the will power to wait a couple more months.

You must be pretty ancient. I been in a before sunrise line for a couple of iDevices, and there were plenty of people clearly over half a century old in line with me.

old enough to know when someone is trying really hard to get my goat.

Apple will have the high end market cornered. Android is the new Symbian on Verizon. Want a free starter phone that sorta works - grab a Droid.

So we have to buy Droid phones from these guys then...

Currently first in line in Columbus, OH at Polaris Fashion Place Mall. Hate if you want, but I'm happy, iPhone's finally on Verizon. And, for the record, I really don't care if I can't surf on 3G at the same time as being on the phone. In this day and age, it's rare that you'll be needing that kind of functionality without being within an arms reach of a Wi-Fi hotspot anyway. Just my opinion.

"Free at last, Free at last, Thank God Almighty, I'm Free at last!"

Have had 3 AT&T iPhones since 2007. HATE the service: dropped calls in SF and Marin are the NORM. Have had to carry & pay for a Verizon (old-fashioned Razr) phone alongside the iPhone for all these years so I have a phone that actually works.

The nightmare is over: we got 2 new Verizon iPhones this week. Tested them side-by-side with the AT&T iPhone with simultaneous long calls all over SF and Marin -- mostly to the 611 customer service lines, which assure long hold times, (though not on Verizon).

As usual, the AT&T phones dropped calls constantly: 4, 5, 6 times during identical calls during which the Verizon iPhones NEVER dropped a single call -- a true, real-time, apples-to-apples comparison.

AND, the data downloads on the Verizon phone were dramatically faster, contrary to recent news reports such as David Pogue's in the NY Times. In spots where the AT&T phone only accessed the Edge network -- with 3-5 MINUTE-long waits to download a single page -- the Verizon phone accessed the 3G network and downloaded the same page in seconds.

The beauty part is that I was able to sell my AT&T iPhone 4s for over $400 each, cash, with multiple offers from independent cell phone stores. This more than covered the early termination fees and costs for the new Verizon iPhones.

So, as of tomorrow, when I will buy two more Verizon iPhones and cancel all my AT&T service contracts, I will be "free at last, free at last, Thank God Almighty, free at last," from the yoke of AT&T's awful Bay Area network. (With apologies to MLK...)

I think that they should quit selling all other phones and just sell the iPhone.

That's dedication waiting in line so early. I mean I waited up until midnight to pre-order last week and i thought that was exciting! It will be exciting for these new verizon customers today to see how the customer service is with verizon, it's been pretty decent with me when I needed it. + 1 for verizon and for the iPhone in general.

I'm about to head out and scope out the verizon store and see if there's a line. If you're like me that had a falling out with the preorder (my fault) and then again mixed up the dates for the online order on the 9th (again my fault) then I'm sure you would be stoked to go and pick it up today instead of wait for the 18th for it to be shipped. WOO!

Hi, I love queues, in fact everyone here loves queues.
We're going over to your line to form a good, honest, orderly British queue...
And we don't even care about Verizon! or do we?
Let us know where we can queue, and we'll queue for Britain!
God save the Queen!

Hi Schizoid!

Good - you've started a queue ......... excellent!

I'm number 2 then ......

By the way, what are we queuing for ....... ?

Anyone brought the tea ................ ?

It's all right, I got some Hobnobs and a few Rich Tea left from yesterday...

OK - the British contingent are now set for the duration

All these people queue for iDevices, but I think I'll queue up for the new MacBook Pros. After all, Macs are the only thing Apple makes that are worth queueing for.

And yes, Sent from my iPod touch. That I didn't queue up for.

Nothing says Loser more than camping out to buy a phone, scratch that, buying anything which will always be available.

I understand why these people are doing this for a phone that's been out for several years now. I'm a dedicated Mac user at home, not so lucky at work. I've been with VW since 2003 and thought my Razor was the best thing. I didn't want to switch to AT&T when the iPhone came out, so I waited. I've got a couple iPod Ts and an iPad and now that I finally have the iPhone it feels like it's just hit the market for the first time ever. I'm sure this is very similar to all the VW customers that did the same thing a few years ago, or for that matter, just under a year ago when the iPhone 4 was released.
