Although I have plenty of roll over, I sent "yes" to the # and got the confirmation text for the 1000 bonus roll over minutes...I did not get the original text, just replied to the #.

ditto...did the same and got a reply saying we have added 1000 roll over minutes to your account......too bad I already have 8000 lol

Need some help here...

Ok.

I am on a family plan, 3 iPhones- ATT.
I have the 1400 minute plan w/ unlimited text for 30.
I have 9800 R/O minutes- too many I know.

I just changed the texting plan to take effect next billing cycle to the new unlimited text/call to any mobile number- check.

I have not texted for the free 1k min of R/O yet.

Here is my question:
I want to down my minute plan to 700.
I will loose 9100 of R/O when I choose the plan, or when the plan takes effect either immediately, or next billing cycle. I want to keep the 700 minutes of R/O pluse get the 1k bonus R/O, for a total of 1700 to build on.

How do you think I can make this happen?

Thx all-

I think Verizon has somehow physically allocated bandwidth from Dial-up and Fios to wireless. I go to two remote vacation homes in socal where the only internet is dial-up from Verizon. About the time of the Verizon iPhone 4 launch connection speeds consistently dropped and connection reliability dropped substantially.

I have to wonder considering how crippled the speed of dial-up is already, how that could possibly make sense.

I would like to see Verizon provide dial-up customers maximal bandwidth to the limit of the technology and preferably offer those customers a discounted rate on a data only wireless plan, while updating rural towers to support it.

Verizon web access and customer service sucks as compared to AT&T, so an upgrade to that layer of the company would be most welcome to us with no availability to change suppliers. A low bandwidth version of the website to deal with billing and service issues would be the smartest thing they ever did. Too bad they waited till I posted it to MacRumors to think of it.

Idiots

Just take your free minutes and stop whining, you don't have it that bad. Sure you might never use them but they are a bit of insurance in case you someday increase your talk-time.

And in response to the ATT vs Vz fight:

Att seems to be cheaper for almost everyone, and works quite well in lots of major cities (not all). Vz has a rep for being "nice" to customers and tends to have a more reliable network out in the middle of nowhere, but will be typically slower, and features dropped data when you get an incoming call. Bear in mind that most of our population lives in cities.

The competition is great, now that we have a choice prices might actually come down and there are freebies like this. Both networks will have to improve to fight their competition.

Given a choice (I have a choice) I will stick with att since I almost never (5 times in a year) drop calls in boston and my data is faster than vz (reportedly) supports. plus simultaneous talk and data (which is very useful, think about it for a minute) makes it worth it. So Vz, what can you offer to make me interested? Just your "nice guy" rep?

Approximately 900,000 Verizon iPhones? Yeah, all the trolls on this board were right. The Verizon iPhone launch was an "epic fail" . . .

Well it's still pretty far off from the carnage people were predicting, "millions of AT&T users will jump ship to Verizon"....didn't happen and the 900,000 is based off "estimates"

I'm pretty sure that those predicting this "carnage" were aware that it won't take place overnight. There will still be millions of AT&T customers making the switch to Verizon. But no way is that going to happen immediately. Not everyone has extra money lying around to use on their ETFs. In the weeks and months to come, however, we'll see this "900,000" number skyrocket as current Verizon customers are eligible for upgrades and AT&T customers' contracts come up.

Verizon is already at 3.7% (a 0.7% increase) in less than 24 hours.

It'll take some time, but Verizon will probably take a good portion of the iPhone market away from AT&T.

Hopefully that will cause AT&T to get a little creative with their voice/data/text plans to retain customers.....

I've about had enough with the AT&T bashing. Jesus, get over it already. They are one of many cell phone providers in this country, made up of 50 states that are the size of many other countries on this planet. As such you won't get great service everywhere. If you blindly bought an iPhone without knowing if AT&T had decent coverage in your area you aren't some wronged Apple slappy, you're an idiot who didn't do their proper due diligence before making a purchase and entering into a contract.

If you live in an area with bad AT&T coverage then yes, your coverage sucks and you should pass on the deal. For all the crap AT&T gets, I've never once had a dropped call on my iPhone and I've had an iPhone since about 2 months after the original was released. Never had a dropped call on the original or the 3GS. Does it get great coverage everywhere I've been in this giant country? Nope. Welcome to owning a cell phone in the USA. When you have states the size of countries and no set technological standard for wireless coverage that's what happens.

I was an existing AT&T customer when I bought the iPhone. Why, you ask? Because when I left college and moved to a major metropolitan suburb my Verizon phone couldn't get a signal inside my place. Walk outside and I'd get a bar or two, inside .. nothing. Same deal with my friends who also had Verizon phones. You know who got a great signal? My buddy with AT&T so I made the move. Haven't had a problem since.

I was just provided with a Verizon Droid based phone about two months ago through my employer. I turned it back in yesterday. The thing sucked compared to the iPhone in terms of basic coverage. Might have been the phone, might have been the network, either way, who cares? Some places AT&T is better, other places it's Verizon, other places it's some other carrier.

Get over it already. If AT&T blows donkey nuts in your area, as it does in many areas, then don't buy a phone from AT&T and be done with it already. No need to blow up forums complaining about a cell provider and service you were too stupid to check out before you bought it. You want to bitch and moan to somebody who can do something about that? Have a nice conversation with yourself in the mirror. You were the one who didn't do even a bit of background work before you made the purchase.

What kind of person with a clue enters into a two year agreement with anybody over anything without doing a little bit of research in advance especially when that research consists of asking a friend with a certain cell provider how good their coverage is????

I didn't get the invite but texted back too and got the response for accepting it. Actually the response came back three times now.

Now I'm worried though. How do we know this is really from ATT? It says it takes up to 4 weeks. Perhaps that is so you don't get worried the minutes aren't showing up while some information was passed from the phone?

What kind of info? The word "Yes"?

If this was a scam, the story would have been updated as such on the various websites that reported it.

When I pay my AT&T bill using the AT&T app, I get a confirmation text from them from a similar number that begins with 1111.

I took a month 2 iPhone 1 on a road trip from NC to MI to CO to AZ to CA. It had data and voice reception essentially everywhere except good parts of AZ.

I was amazed and impressed. Having mobile internet for the first time made side-trips more convenient and lower perceived risk. A lot of folks talk about hardware, networks, and customer service hassles. The real magic of iPhone is mobile information on command. All that other stuff is rare and silly annoyances the companies really should work on fixing to avoid distractions from perceived magic.

Tinfoil?

Come on man. I'm new to ATT and iOS. To boot I get a rapid succession of responses from the text I sent. Everyone should be a little cautious about identity theft. If the message were going to someone other than ATT, there could be more data than what you type traveling in the message. Spam lists are generated simply from responses gotten for instance but of course you can have data sent that you don't type as well.

As I said, if this weren't legit, one of them many sites would have picked up on that.

Update: We contacted AT&T via Seth Bloom (blogger relations) to ensure this was legit and he said, "It's a valid text that some customers are getting. We've done it before, thanking customers."

I disagree, I don't think Verizon will ever surpass the GSM iPhone in the U.S. sure they will get more but AT&T will lead for some time to come...besides I thought most Verizon users were satisfied with Android? Were those people lying?!?

Satisfy with Android? are you kidding me! I just got the Verizon iPhone yesterday. I think the iPod and iPhoto alone are worth it. Other features that makes it stand out above the rest include, iTunes easy to understand ecosystem, no junk apps from Verizon, design, design.

Holly cow, I discover quickly that I now text at least 10X more than I did with my other phone.

Thanks for the info!

And thats the idea of these sites anyway; to explore these possibilities. I didn't think it was really a hoax but I was here reading the site as I texted for the minutes and thats when it struck me of the possibility.

Now if someone suggests the person claiming to have contacted ATT is the one who might be behind some hoax... well then we are talking tinfoil. LOL

Thx all-

I thought that AT&T flushes your rollover minutes whenever you make any change to your plan.

I don't think they flush your rollover minutes if you upgrade to a higher minutes plan (I'm pretty sure a rep told me that).

A rep told me that by adding the Mexico plan that my rollover minutes wouldn't be touched. WRONG! They flushed them and when I called back to bitch about it they just told me that they always do that and get over it (paraphrasing). They said 'any' change to a rate plan blows your minutes.

*SOB* I had somewhere north of 7,000. Pissed I was...

And no offer to put them back either.

I don't need more minutes but sure could stand, oh I don't know, maybe some more data or perhaps two months free tethering? Gee, that would be nice.
