For the 13", which processor should I get ?

Using Lightroom, After Effect, Premiere Pro, etc for time-lapse processing in RAW.

But is there really a difference between the i5 2.4, 2.6 and i7 ?

The best answer I've found so far is from:
So $1499 13" is the best bang for the buck? https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1657556/

But here's some extra info I dug up via Wiki regarding the processors (the MHz numbers represent GPU clock speed):
  • i5 2.4GHz = Iris 5100 (GT3) | 1100MHz | 3MB L3 | +$0
  • i5 2.6GHz = Iris 5100 (GT3) | 1200MHz | 3MB L3 | +$100
  • i7 2.8GHz = Iris 5100 (GT3) | 1200MHz | 4MB L3 | +$300
So essentially you can get the higher GPU clock speed for an extra $100, but lose out on the additional L3 cache (which can be fairly important for CPU intensive tasks). An additional $300 seems too much for the i7 for my uses, that's for sure.

And Geekbench scores tell you % wise what the difference is:

13-inch with dual-core CPU:
- i5-4258U @ 2.4 GHz: Single-Core 2613, Multi-Core 5248
- i5-4288U @ 2.6 GHz: Single-Core 2856, Multi-Core 5954
- i7-4558U @ 2.8 GHz: Single-Core 3000, Multi-Core 6189

Per these scores:
Comparing the 2.6 i5 to the 2.4 i5:
  • 9.3% faster for Single-Core
  • 13.5% faster for Multi-Core.
Comparing the 2.8 i7 to 2.4 i5:
  • 14.8% faster for Single-Core
  • 17.9% faster for Multi-Core.
Comparing the 2.8 i7 to the 2.6 i5:
  • 5.0% faster for Single-Core
  • 3.9% faster for Multi-Core.

So the 2.6 GHz i5 definitely seems to be the best % increase per $. Both the 2.6 i5 and 2.8 i7 give you the 9.1% speed boost to the Iris 5100 graphics frequency over the 2.4. The i7 also gives you 25% more L3 cache, which may be useful depending on how CPU intensive your work is.

Lawrence? Ks. City? I'd call first just to make sure.

Leawood and The Plaza in KC. There isn't a store in Lawrence (I wish there was though!!!!). It says online they're available today, but I suppose I should double check.

Edit: They're in stock in Leawood! Wonder why we got them before stores in other major areas. Maybe because there are only two stores in the KC area?

I just went into an apple store in Texas. Bought a base 15 retina for $2,055 out the door. Pretty excited to get home.

Maybe this have been up already.
But do we have any performance comparisons of the 2 new 15" rMBP models compared to the 15" early 2013 version?

Also i haven't seen iFixit release a vid of the new rMBP.
But do we know if there are any improvements to the Haswell models that are more hidden?
Like different display providers, different layout inside or things like that?

Hey guys, will the current cases for ivy bridge rMBP 15's fit this new haswell 15in? I would like a case on ASAP.

Wonder if I should wait for Incase to come out with a new 13" neoprene sleeve. I think the regular ones would have way too much room, but the slim or whatever might be fine. Any ideas?

I feel like the 750 was just a list minute add on and they did not initially plan on releasing it.

Adios

This post is closure for me. Finally placed an order for the 15" with 16gb ram and 512 pcie. Hope this one lasts just as long as my dead 08' MBP if not more. I will not miss this thread. Good luck to yall!

15" 2.3Ghz, 16GB / 512GB received today......will be selling out my late 2012 13" retina i7/8/512 to make room. Thx for all the feedback in helping me select. Decided it wasnt worth the £200 for the uprated CPU alone.

Well, those benchmarks came from very sketchy sources and were just averaged by MacRumours to get the scores you've used. I would wait for some legitimate reviews and benchmarks to come out before comparing performance. Or you could always just run GeekBench yourself if you have already received your rmbp.

And this is based on what? The fact that many f/tools thought it would not be an option?

TIP: Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Like all the experts saying a Iris Pro + dGPU would be so crazy expensive Apple would never do it...

I'm hoping to get advice on what to buy. Dedicated GPU is very important (for gaming). I am unsure if the new 15" rMBP w/ dGPU is worth it. I don't have any foreseeable use for Tunderbolt 2 or ac wi-fi, and don't need the world's longest battery life. Is is worth $750 extra (over early 2013's model) for slightly faster CPU + slightly faster GPU + slightly faster PCIe SSD? Will I recoup much of that $750 when I resell in 2-4 years? Will there be any massive sales on the old Macbook Pros or should I just buy now? Here's my Macbook candidates and how much they will cost me (all are base specs w/ 650m or 750m):

The new MacBook Pro

$2,470 from B&H (2,600 base - 130 shop discover)

$2,474.92 from Apple (2,400 base [student price] + 191.92 ca tax - 120 shop discover)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

The old MacBook Pro (Feb 2013)

$1,712.72 refurb. from Apple (1,660 base + 132.72 ca tax - 83 shop discover)

$1,805 new from B&H ($1,900 base - 95 shop discover)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

The extra old Macbook Pro (June 2012)

$1,662.50 new from B&H ($1,750 base - 87.50 shop discover)

why did u go from 13" to 15"?
im still hesitant to wich to buy. is 15 too big too carry along all the time?
once im at my place i have room enough too sit tho

Really excited to have 9 hour battery life on my 13 inch rMBP. I've never owned a Laptop before. Always desktops.

Hello! I'm very excited about these new MacBook Pro. As I said I'll take the maxed out 13". It's slightly lighter as I hoped and there is the 16GB or RAM option as I hoped. Also it's slightly cheaper.

What I think will be really exciting for the "normal" people is the fact that they can buy the one with the 512GB SSD in the store!

For the Londoners: Did anyone checked if these new rMBP are already available in the retail stores? Where? (Regent Street? Covent Garden?)

No just that feeling :p

There is very little mention of it, even when you select the high end macbook there is absolutely no mention of it when you go through the BTO options. Usually they mention it on the side bar where it updates every time you change something
