You are implying the Apple under Steve Jobs was without vision.

And I should be able to go to my boss and tell him that it will take 10 times longer to complete my tasks, because I am a man with vision.

This is a company with vision.

What a load of BS.

How am I implying that? I cannot recall Apple under Jobs flooding the market with new products and updates all the time. Quite the contrary, its about taking the time to get it right. Apple was beat to the marked in several categories, such as MP3 players, smart watches, internet phones.

Other tech companies release new products just to boost sales that quarter, without a vision for what the product or update should be. I am glad Apple is following the Orson Wellesian strategy of releasing once the product is finished.

Déjà vu...
I really doubt (but I don't know for sure) that Apple's product is long finished. It's waiting to be brought to the market - except that maybe there is a problem with (at least) one of the parts - for example Skylake.
Apple would have probably liked to release the MBP quite a while back but couldn't because someone decided that they will use the i7-6770HQ - and only that processor(!) for the 15" MBP.
And this decision has shown to be wrong. Take any one of the Skylakes, add a dedicated GPU and you're done. Nobody would be here if they had decided wisely.

So yes, this is true:
If this was any other tech company, someone would have been fired over this
and it applies to the current situation.

Agreed. There should still be deadlines. Steve did put out issues with phones amongst other things but they did get released on time. They could of updated the lines with latest chips in current hardware but they choose to do whatever the hell they are doing

Are there M2-formfactor 2TB SSDs out yet? Samsung f.ex. only produces up to 1TB (https://tinkertry.com/samsung-960-pro-and-960-evo-and-SM961-m-2-nvme-announced), the only one I could find was a server model from Seagate that is comparably slow (http://www.anandtech.com/show/10517/seagate-expands-nytro-enterprise-ssd-family-with-2tb-m2-xm1440). So the question maybe is not if Apple wants to include a 2TB option, but if a 2TB option is technically possible at the time.

2TB m2 SSD confirmed: http://www.samsung.com/us/computing...state-drives/ssd-960-pro-m-2-2tb-mz-v6p2t0bw/

This carries specs similar to current PCIe in MBP... so Im guessing it will be available as an option on the next MBP.

Sorry, no offence, but this is, simply put, bullish*t:

I keep reading posts like these and I assume that whoever writes this has a somewhat "modern" MBP in front of him.
I don't for one. I have an early 2011 MPB with a dGPU, replaced the HDD with a SSD, added more RAM and am doing fairly well. But this computer is starting to feel as old as it is. I could use a replacement. And YES, the 2015 rMBP would suit me just fine - except that I'm not willing to pay the price Apple is asking for it.
In my opinion the price is a real rip off!
I believe Apple's products are worth the money when they are up to 1/2 a year old. After that they should adjust the prices. Since they don't, I don't buy the products they offer if they are older than 1/2 a year. It's the way I do it.
And when I started looking for a replacement early last year there was nothing. Then came the 2015 rMBP with no real updates - so I figured I'd wait until Q4 2015 - believing they might update the CPU / chipset. I wasn't going to buy "old" hardware at Apple's prices then and I won't now.
But I bet you're not buying that old hardware either, are you?
[/rant]

Sorry about that, but it really p*sses me off to read these posts. Don't assume everyone has the same hardware you do. And from reading this thread I know there are many people who have even older MacBooks than mine they'd like to replace. So it's fair to assume they are waiting because they don't wan't to pay the Apple price for the hardware they got (a lot of which is from 2014 btw).

Why don't you buy second hand or get one from the refurb store. I agree that the current 15" MBP is overpriced for the hardware you get but if you knock 15% off the price its not bad. If you are still using a 2011 MBP you either don't need something super powerful or you are happy to put up with a slower machine. Either way, waiting for the new one isn't the end of the world.

Its always the same with hardware. You either wait for the next iteration or you take what there is now. I don't agree with the speed apple is chucking new updates out but you have so many options if you must buy one now. If you don't "need" to upgrade now then whats the problem with waiting a while.

They are really taking their time to get the Mac Pro update right. Seriously step away from the Kool Aid

My dying 2008 unibody fell which made me paranoid and change the HDD. Gave it a little life boost, its now like someone who feels sleep but had Red Bull.

Kind of glad it happened, otherwise I would have stayed on my ill 4 year old HDD waiting for new macbooks upgrade during which the HDD most likely have failed.

Just another anecdote in the life of an obsolete macbook user waiting for an upgrade.

To everyone hand-wringing over the "as soon as next month" comment on the macrumors front page article, rest easy, it was a typo. Read it again, they fixed it:

According to rumors, Apple is planning to introduce a revamped MacBook Pro as soon as later this month, said to feature a redesigned, thinner body, a flatter keyboard, a wider pressure-sensitive trackpad, and most notably, an OLED display touch panel that replaces the physical function keys.

Just been here for a week and I am already impatient as some of you. I might take a call at the new dell xps 13 or the razer blade kaby lake even though this could have been my first step into apple world.
Then you are here for the wrong reason, just buy the old MBP.
None of us would trade a MBP for KabyLake xps13 or Blade stealt as those are 15W prosessors. If you are OK with that go to the waiting for MBA thread, thats the power you need, that will aldo get KabyLake if it gets an update, the MBP won't.

If it's really going to happen this month, Gurman and/or Ming should know something, right? When were their last statements? They're to quiet too if you ask me...

Help me guys! I'm slowly losing faith it is going to happen in October.
Gurman has already said on that video about October, at this point just be bloody patient there's nothing more they can esentially say. We live in an age where you expect instantaneous results just calm it all down

this is what's wrong with this 90% of this thread. You all live in a world with next day delivery and instantaneous results hahaha how can you not handle waiting for the best part of 9 more days till invites? Calm down

I have this thread to thank for opening my eyes to variances across processors, even those in the same family. I'd recommend that anyone discussing jumping from the upcoming MacBook Pro to something like the XPS with Kaby Lake to review this forum and other sources to look at the differences inside each processor family. The XPS will likely ship with a Kaby Lake U processor. While the MacBook Pro processor isn't known, it will likely be Skylake, but one that is in the higher power range like the H.
I have no doubt that someone more familiar with these products will correct me, but just something for people to make sure they look at.

no idea if we will see invites today.. the iphone 7 event the invites went out on a monday. if we hear nothing today can pretty much cross out next week for the event. so that leaves us with the 24th-27th timeframe.

An event on the 27th is pretty much a certainty I think. The only question is will they have time to showcase some new Macs with all the other exciting announcements they'll have for us. :)

Micro Center is having a sale on all of it's macs right now. with $200 off an 15" 16/256 model and $200 off the base 13" model too. Up to $200 off iMacs, $100 off mac mini, and $100 off apple watches (original). Seems like a weird time to start a sale after an American holiday. Maybe a clearance event to get rid of stock? they are store pickup only (which is not odd for them).
