What is the point of wireless charging? To save a couple of seconds that it would otherwise take to plug in a wire? Taking that couple of seconds to plug in a wire will save several minutes or even hours because wired charging charges the phone much faster than wireless charging.
The issue isn't time but clutter esp in a console.

Interested to hear more about this one. If it's excessive heat then I wonder if that can be triggered by more general situations, like just leaving your phone in the hot sun for too long.

I wonder if the 15 Pro models were rushed? I wonder if they have a newer architecture from all previous generations?

I use Qi charging for my 13 Pro all day long, no problems. Got charging pads throughout my house, vehicle and work.

The phone does get warmer, but I have no choice. Lightning has failed for me on 3 phones in a row. Must be my pocket lint.
Apple has fifteen years of annual iPhone releases, they probably know how to do them without being rushed.

Doesn't the iPhone shut off the wireless charging if the temperature gets too hot? I'm pretty sure I've received a notification once, forgot which car I was using the wireless charging, "Phone temperature too hot, wireless charging has stopped/disabled" or something like that.

But regardless, also wanted to say both BMW and Mercedes wireless charging options just flat out s--k. Both of them either slow to charge and/or heats up the phone way too much. I get that heat happens when it comes to wireless charging but BMW and Mercedes options seem excessive with regards to heat.

Maybe next time Apple might try actually testing new products before releasing them. It is not like a BMW is uncommon in the Bay areas where Apple is headquartered. My guess is that Tesla, BMW, and Prius are the most common cars up there.

Next time give a couple thousand pre-production iPhones to Apple employees.

Regular iPhone 15 here. There’s an issue with the NFC in these.

People have been complaining over Reddit that Apple Pay doesn’t communicate with the terminals and I’m affected too. Not heat or wireless charging related, NFC just dies. Start saying “Hold near reader” and nothing happens. Can’t use Apple Pay.

Not exclusively related to BMW or wireless charging because I don’t have a BMW, but it could be something that contributes to the issue.
Update: Apple appears to be telling support customers that a software update is coming and that it’s not a hardware issue.

Would you mind posting where you found that?
People saying it on Reddit threads that Apple ran diagnostics and found out that the ‘Apple Pay unit’ (NFC) is physically functional, and that they’ll be issuing a patch. It was somewhere on the r/iOS subreddit among the 5 or so complaint posts about Apple Pay issues.

I called in earlier and while they didn’t directly tell me they’ll be issuing an update, they confirmed that diagnostics appear OK and that it’s a software issue. They made me downgrade from the 17.1 beta to 17.0.2 and I suppose this could also mean a patch is coming.

It’s a “space age” idea that sounds really cool but is really stupid.

Maybe it’s good for top-up situations but on a daily basis it’s dumb.

I haven’t had this issue but the BMW wireless charger is garbage. It heats the phone so much that the phone stops charging. Not surprised to hear that it can actually do damage.
Wireless charging causes this in general.

And most important will not overheat the device.

There are advantageous to wireless charging including seamlessly being able to charge and pick up a phone without having to use another hand to either untangle or manage a long cord (or a short one for that matter).

Why I always pay cash!
Not always the best idea. Many incentives are not applied to cash deals, cash deals require paying tax up front while leases don’t in many states, and subsidized lease programs sometimes have zero percent interest.

I have a 2023 Land Rover Defender and the wireless charging overheats the phone to the point the "too hot" warning comes on and it shuts it down. Guess it was built for Androids.
