Why are so many intent on blaming Apple for what certainly seems to be a BMW problem? BMW had months to test and notify Apple of bugs between the two. Is Apple expected to test their products with every variation of every car? That would be ridiculous.

Any reports of the same problem with other cars? We have three cars with built in wireless chargers and there is no problem like this with any of them.

All the comedians and self proclaimed Apple experts just can't pass up what they think is an opportunity to dump on Apple. It is surprising considering there are real thing to dump on them for.

I love BMW for pioneering Apple tech at their cars. They were first to use Wireless CarpLay as well as Car Keys.

However, having a MINI with built in wireless charger under the armrest, I stopped using it the first week when I'm using Wireless CarPlay.

The Devil's Triangle is
  1. Using Wireless CarPlay
  2. Having the phone in the wireless charger
  3. Using any maps app.
I had my X, Xr, my partner's iPhone 12 and 13 and now my iPhone 14 Pro all experience the same result -> Phones go to thermal protection mode after 10 mins. The phones are so hot on the screen especially it's impossible to touch it for few mins.

Considering the thermal challenges of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, They might have fried that NFC circuitry for good.

PS: Internet is full of this situation with Wireless Charging and Wireless CarPlay issue.

What is the point of wireless charging? To save a couple of seconds that it would otherwise take to plug in a wire? Taking that couple of seconds to plug in a wire will save several minutes or even hours because wired charging charges the phone much faster than wireless charging.
My phone rarely ever needs a material amount of charge in the car. Just topping it up when I get in the car and can just throw it down is nice to have.

I wonder if the 15 Pro models were rushed? I wonder if they have a newer architecture from all previous generations?

I use Qi charging for my 13 Pro all day long, no problems. Got charging pads throughout my house, vehicle and work.

The phone does get warmer, but I have no choice. Lightning has failed for me on 3 phones in a row. Must be my pocket lint.

I haven’t had this issue but the BMW wireless charger is garbage. It heats the phone so much that the phone stops charging. Not surprised to hear that it can actually do damage.
i mean, the phone itself has a heating issue to begin with....

BMW does not test iPhones.

Apple gives direction for specifying requirements for CarPlay and also for Wireless Charging governance. Maybe they are tested when introduced but I don't think BMW tests every new pghone that is coming out.

It's Apple's accountability that their previous specs for these integrations work with their newly launched device

While at the moment it‘s just a wireless BMW charger, i‘m actually worried an external device with quite low operating power can physically damage an iPhone.

That's the concern... is the BMW charger adhering to the correct specifications? Could the fast-charging mode be running way over the top?

How did BMW have months? This is a hardware issue, not a software issue.

iOS was introduced months ago, not iPhone 15.

I‘d expect my phone to stay intact even in harsh EM environment, say in X-Ray scanners or near radio equipment. That wireless charger can draw how much power? 10 Watts?

We use the recently discontinued Apple dual portable chargers (iPhone and Watch) every night. Sometimes the iPhone 14 Pro Max will only charge 80% and sometimes it fills the "tank". Same action with my Ultra watch. Works for us.

Wireless charger in my 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser generates heat along with some charging. The USB wired port charges just fine.

BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda etc are all "CAR" companies. They are not mobile phone makers. So one was the first with a "charger" and the others all had to install one also. Some worked and most, it seemed, did not work.

I let Apple make the chargers for their phones and the car makers make their cars. Pretty simple really. Very seldom does my iPhone get down to 60% charge and same for the Watch.

We carry the Apple portable chargers when we travel with the wall wart having the appropriate wall connection for where we are. Damn simple really. No charging issues.

Oh, I have also had both BMWs and Mercedes over the years (since the mid 60s) along with models from Ferrari and Maserati. Back in the day there were no cup holders and sparse on ash trays. The driver was to drive and not be distracted, especially at the speeds these cars could run at all day.

I sprung for the extra to have a wireless charger in my car

Worst decision I’ve ever made. Turns out I have to connect it to the car via a cable to get CarPlay so I don’t even get to use it

I would check those forums. But I doubt it, as it's not affecting older iPhones...
It's helpful to know this to isolate whether it's the BMW charger or something specific with the iPhone 15/P/PM series.

Well, let's think about this... Did BMW just release and force-install new chargers in people's cars? Or... did  just come out with a new iPhone? Care to take a guess at where the problem lies? ;)

Hope this gets fixed (bad news of course), but can’t believe people still buy BMW’s these days. They look like a mishmash of Toyota, Audi, and Mercedes lol. Terrible design language and IMO they don’t drive like they used to. (2000-2010 vehicles)

Waiting for bmw to reply with same.
Well, as a German and somebody who worked many years for BMW at FIZ Munich i say, newer BMW sucks, but they aren’t Toasters. It works very well with iPhone’s up to 14* and it’s Apple certified. The fault is clearly on Apple’s side, poor iPhone hardware design/quality and probably all linked to the heat issue.
