Absolutely wild! Watch 9 is only 3 years old, AND runs on same chip as AWU2...

I think that they are exposing themselves to a class-action lawsuit, unless they have an ironclad reason.

Update finished, here's proof:

Can someone check on this issue?

When you get a message and the notification is visible on your watch, slide your finger down from the top until the "Dismiss" arrow appears, and then release. Use that method to dismiss the notification. Then, check on your phone to see if the message is still marked "unread" with the blue dot.

Prior to watchOS 26, doing this would mark the message "read".
Starting with watchOS 26, doing this leaves the message "unread", which I think is a mistake on Apple's part.
(Scrolling down in the message notification until the Dismiss button appears and pressing that will still mark the message "read". That's not what I'm talking about, though, I'm specifically looking at the "slide down from the top" dismiss method.)

Thanks for sharing.
Do you know yet if "Siri AI" is available to you on the S9? That might be where the compatibility piece comes to play (as of me typing this reponse Apple's website still is not updated re watchOS 27 compatibility).
In the same Reddit thread, the engineer says the list of watches currently on the support list is the list of watches that support Siri AI. So, that does require Series 10 or better.

I don’t notice anything different within WatchOS 27 apart from the app launcher seems to display your most used apps as bigger icons and then the reset within an icon folder. I was hoping for new watch faces or even a watch face store, but no. ,

if memory serves right, new watch faces have only been added to the RC and the final release, not in betas

Wow this was the most disappointing WatchOS update - maybe to date actually. Zero workout features, no maps in the workout app for map guidance while running, no route uploads, no manual adjust of treadmill distance, no new watch faces (yes they might be there in September) and just about zero updates in total worth the big annual update number. Sometimes I wonder if the Watch team is seriously under prioritized or just don’t want to compete with the other big watches on the market 😭

I agree, and from what's been listed at the link below, meh

Now my ever shrinking hopes of new health features/sensors for the upcoming Sep releases is going to make me save money, I guess that's a good thing after all

So my S7 is stuck with this horribly performing version we call 26?
Why can I select the watchOS 27 dev beta in the watch app if I can’t download it.

While iOS 27 lifted my mood, this permanently destroyed it again. watchOS 26 is simply garbolium on my S7. Now Playing didn’t work right in almost a year and now it’s supposed to stay that way?

The focus this year across platforms is stability and performance, not new features (with the exception of AI). That was expected and I like it. Snow Leopard moment.

All I saw was AI… AGAIN! Where are the watch faces and big features ?! 😊 I won’t be upgrading my Series 6 to a S11 just because it’s not compatible with watchOS 27 anymore. Just like my Apple Watch Series 1, I’ll wear it ‘til it breaks—remember when the screen started separating? I kept that one for eight years! 2017-25.

The bad thing is, if I hold onto my Series 6 longer like I did with my Series 1, i hope our awesome developers (hey, I build iOS apps too!) keep these apps supported on watchOS 11 and 26—so we don’t have to upgrade too soon.
Fingers crossed Apple keeps updating watchOS 26 when they add cool new watch faces in watchOS 27 too! 🙌
