So true.

Agree, agree, agree. And bringing back MS Entourage with the min project manager (grumble) would help as well.

Does that option bring back the physical switches too?!

1. MagSafe connectors on all laptops. What were they thinking?
2. Less buggy iOS releases. Software that just works was real.
3. A more powerful Macbook Air (CPU, RAM, storage, GPU) at its same price point.
. . . . 3a. As long as we're wishing, a 15" Macbook Air with a thin bezel would be *amazing*.
4. An updated (and upgradeable) Mac Mini at its same price point.
5. A better remote for 4th gen and newer Apple TVs.
6. A software update for the 3rd gen Apple TV. Please.
7. A fullscreen iPhone with a TouchID sensor under the screen or on the back.
8. And as long as we're wishing, multiple accounts and fast-user-switching on iOS devices.

An Apple iWatch Pro that is the size of an iPod. Magsafe 2 connectors on the iPhones, iPads, and iWatches.

iOS X
- Logic Pro X and Final Cut X are the best maintained apps. I want the same teams to handle iOS. No more rushed “must be done by September” releases, no more iOS 11, 12, 13 ..., just X

This way even older phone would not slow down easily and have the updates till the time you decide to replace it.

- security and diagnostic Center (to handle all the security updates and bug fixes, diagnostic of hardware and software)

- API library (so Apple can always add my APIs to the system

- themes (so you could customize look of icons, icon grid, dark theme, classic iOS look theme, notifications, font sizes ...)

- multiple users accounts (on iPad, at least)

- connect to screen and keyboard to become a “MacOS X lite”

macOS X
Snow leopard like, with a all new front row, themes, proper full screen and, no more yearly updates, same as suggested above iOS X system

Back to a simplified and properly working products, as before, not this android like mess we have now

I’d like to see Apple take some of the concepts they’ve already introduced more seriously. Apple bought Siri and then let the voice control concept be taken over by Google and Alexa. Somewhat connected to this, their HomeKit concept is being buried by devices that use the Dot and Echo as their control device. Similar things are happening with AppleTV, Alexa is being marketed by Dish as being a voice control for their satellite cable system, while Siri the really clumsy remote. The HomePod A) isn’t available and B) They already admit its initial functionality won’t include a lot of HomeKit capacity and as already mentioned, HomeKit is behind both Google and Amazon. Time to put up or go home.

Ive doesn’t control which ports MBP have, or the size of the battery, for those who blame him for thinness. Those are marketing decisions.
That would be true at any other company, but not Apple. Steve has mentioned several times that Jony and his design team had more autonomy than anyone else at the company. One of Steve's biggest criticisms of Apple under Scully and Amelio was that the marketing team had too much sway. A company like Pepsi does virtually no product development, so marketing drives their success. That kind of culture was an anathema to Steve, so when he came back, he did everything in his power to insulate designers, engineers, and product managers from marketing.

If marketing thought they needed Ethernet, USB-A ports, long travel keyboards or 2x current battery life to sell MBP, they’d have put them in the requirements doc.

Apple’s vision of a thin, light, powerful laptop that was ideal for traveling, and moved easily between home and work—often with the use of just a single cable—was fully realized in the 2016/2017 MBP.

That vision isn’t consistent with the requirements of some users, including those who want native ports, a traditional escape key or longer battery life, among others. The touch bar vision has yet to be fully realized, and may well end up being one of Apple’s innovation mis-fires.

That vision was satisfied by the 12" MacBook, minus the Touch Bar that no one asked for (what most users hoped for was a Retina line of MacBook Airs). Whenever people complained about the keyboard, the legitimate retort was that the 12" was expressly designed to be as thin and light as possible (reading the butterfly switch patent, it's clear that the design goal was to enable further miniaturization rather than solve ergonomic problems). More demanding users could always opt for a MacBook Pro—until late 2016.

My theory is that Jony (I'm using "Jony" as a proxy for all key product leads) tried to cargo cult the iPad's success with the Mac line, assuming that because the iPad was successful, thin, light, and virtually free of ports, they could make the MacBook line thin, light, and virtually free of ports, and success would follow. The result is a line of laptops that are designed to be admired rather than used.

I still have faith in Apple's ability to regroup and learn from their mistakes. They only had time to fix the 2017 keyboards by putting gaskets in them, but I suspect the next generation of MacBook Pros will use the same scissor switch design and keycap footprint of the Magic Keyboard.

Until then, the 2015 MacBook Pro will serve me just fine.

Buyout Fitbit, allow trade-ups to watch and get them to hold a 5 day charge like FitBit Iconic.
Negotiate health insurance companies to offer discounted costs to owners of watch with health tracking apps.

In our recent What to Expect post, we covered everything we think we'll see from Apple in 2018 based on the current rumors that are circulating about the company's 2018 plans.

Three new iPhones are on the horizon, one a followup to the iPhone X, one that will serve as an "iPhone X Plus" with a larger OLED display, and one with an LCD display that will be positioned as a low to midrange device with a cheaper price tag. Apple's first smart speaker, the HomePod, will come out in 2018, and we're also expecting a revamped iPad Pro, refreshed Macs, and new software, but there's always a chance for a wildcard update or new product that will surprise us all.

A high-end modular Mac Pro, new original TV shows, AR smart glasses, and autonomous driving software are all products Apple is working on, with no official release date known. We want to hear from the MacRumors community -- what are you expecting or hoping to see Apple release in 2018?

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 12, tvOS 12, watchOS 5, or macOS 10.14? Popular wishlist items for last year included a dark mode for iOS, a customizable Control Center (which happened!), animated icons, iPhone complications, a swipe-based keyboard, offline Maps and Siri, and more.

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check out our What to Expect post to get a glimpse at the current rumors. Apple's plans for 2018 will become more clear in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering every rumor that pops up in-depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also a rich resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with so many exciting changes on the horizon for 2018, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions on what's coming.

We'd like to thank all of our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source for Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to yet another rumor-packed year in 2018.

I think in Europe they now require a power cord whose requirements Mag Safe didn’t meet. So rather than have 2 or more potentially incompatible power cords/supplies they opted to retire MagSafe and standardized on a Europe approved solution.

How about with iOS:

(1) Be able to set a default web browser on iOS
(2) Be able to set a default mail app on iOS

Just a thought. I know you can delete the built in apps, but you still can't set as default, so deleting the apps cripples functionality of the phone.... and we are all smart enough to know that it isn't some technical issue preventing it, its Apple making it difficult to use other apps. So to sum things up, less lockdown and more user choice, after all, we are spending a small fortune on these products.

With iCloud:

(3) Selective sync on iCloud, and/or the ability to right click on something and tell it to remove the local copy
(4) A way to pause iCloud syncing... if I'm on my laptop connected via Personal Hotspot on my iPhone, I don't want it downloading hundreds of MBs worth of a data (sometimes its over a GB if I haven't had my laptop on in a while)

Lastly, politically:

(5) Once the lower tax rates go into effect, move the billions of dollars they have held overseas back home to the United States
(6) Move production home to the United States and out of China
(7) Just build great products and focus on business, quit hopping on every social issue that comes by like they have to be the spokesperson for it

- Transparency on issues that affect your customers like the battery issue.

- Improved keyboard on the MBP

- More reasonable prices for your flagship iPhone model, starting at $799 for the 64GB model.

- Redesigned iPhone SE 2 with FaceID/A11/iPhone 8 camera. My mom has a 4-year-old 5s and would like something in a similar size. Just don’t put in an A10 in the current body and call it a day. Only A11 or A12 in any new iPhone or iPad released in 2018.

- iPad mini replacement similar to the iPhone X in design with home button removal, larger LCD display in same size body as mini 4, FaceID, 3D Touch, higher clocked A11, 3-4GB RAM, iPhone 8 camera, etc. Yeah, I know that’s a long shot.

- Another long shot, make iOS 12 better than 11.

My thoughts/dreams:
• MacBook Pros with a comfortable and quiet keyboard (like the Airs), ports that relate to the real world (USB-3, SD card, mini-DVI), and a row of keys instead of a useless, gimmicky Touchbar. (Actually a retina MacBook Air or similar would suit me).
• iMacs with SSDs rather than spinners or fusion drives that don't bankrupt the purchaser.
• 64-bit Pages and Keynote software that restores the functionality of Pages 4.3 and Keynote 5.3.
• I know I'm dreaming, but a 64-bit update of iWeb, or a new WYSIWYG website creation app that allows translation from existing iWeb files.

I was using “marketing” in a broader sense, mainly as opposed to engineering. Really product manager (who in my experience, tend to have more of a marketing background than engineering background—not necessarily a good thing) is really the role responsible for the requirements.

No decent product manager is going to let any designer, including Ive, override what they and the engineering/marketing groups think need to be in the product to make it successful.

You envision a scenario where product management, engineering and marketing are saying, “we need x, y, and z” then Ive comes along and says, “But I want it thin and beautiful so you’ll get none of those” and gets his way. I don’t buy it.

I'd like to see a more stable version of iOS (even more focus for iPad), new features for macOS, new Airport Base Stations and a second generation Apple pencil

i haven't had much concern in terms of stability with iOS. But I would love to see some more Mac OS like features. Not a user accessible finder necessarily but a common file bucket that any app can use would be nice. flipping language support etc into plug ins, adding plug in support for things like loops, photo editing filters, pages templates, maybe even connections for things like the Files app. and either bring back Game Center or completely ditch it. this half assed **** is not cool. i'm getting sick of being GC spammed and I can't control it.

a smart keyboard that doesn't fail after 3 months for sure. as far as the pencil goes the tip is the big thing for me. I'd love something a little softer. even perhaps being able to switch out to a more brush like tip etc.

  • A wireless 101-key with "f16-f19" to be used for multiple bluetooth devices.
  • AirPods with some sort of foam. They literally hurt to wear them, but foam IEMs are fine.
  • A MacMicro; something in the AppleTV footprint, but runs both tvOS and MacOS, or at least let AppleTVs get a little more hackintosh friendly.
  • The next MacBook Pros to have one "legacy USB" port. Just one.
  • Airport Extreme that allows a VPN install.
  • Apple Watch giving a nudge when the phone is no longer in range.
  • 120Hz iPhone, with TouchID on the BACK!

More Animojis etc so users can create more content like this

Um ... no! Not for stupid holiday cheer ... we don't need technology for that ... just good singing, good songs and people connecting to people!

I'd rather see end user accessibility compliments available to those that require it using this FaceID camera systems. Also rather end user configurable shortcuts or complex actions based on facial recognition.

Gotta think bigger than just entertainment; else we'll continue to be THE most intelligent and yet lazy race on this planet.
