How about asking carriers to bring back subsidized phones with 2 year contract? I was paying $55/mo incl tax with unlimited data and got a new phone every 2 years for $200.

Or how about an Apple MVNO?

How about Apple offer sim free iPhones through their upgrade program in 2018.

I’m not interested in the program, but Id like to see less consumer dependency on wireless carriers for their smartphone purchases. Apple’s iPhone upgrade program is a step in the right direction. If big smartphone makers like Apple, Google and Samsung (or even retailers like Amazon and Best Buy) would have enough courage™️ to offer customers with good credit an unlocked/sim free installment option for their flagship devices, it could shake up the carrier oligopoly and breed some much needed competition between them.

MBP with
1. two extra touchbars (replacing the number row and spacebar) with even more emojis
2. even less travel on (what is left of) the keyboard
3. A larger trackpad that covers the entire bottom part
4. Substantially Thinner
5. Less ports
And still no 32GiB RAM option, to discourage developers from creating apps that use lots of RAM.

Better Marketing. Well, more specifically a better keynote than that embarrassment of an iPhone X announcement. The keynote has gone from a buzz-generating masterpiece under Steve to a flubbed bore. It was painful to watch after I anticipated they’d find a way to nail THIS one at least. I blame it for lack of excitement around the X. It’s so tone deaf now. Bunch of rich nerds (picturing Phil up there) phoning it in and patting themselves on the back. Steve was rolling over..

Also, gotta admit, Face ID is prettt great but it can also be a pain in the butt. Would be sweet if they had Touch ID under the screen and Face ID. But oh well...

  1. Better convergence between iOS and OSX (on iPad) iPads are powerful enough to run OSX and it is frustrating that they are still in effect a big iPhone
  2. More control over the UI in iOS. Not hopeful on this one but personally I'd like more control over where I can put icons and ability to resize them, oh and the ability to customise what shows in the status bar on the iPhone X (battery %!!!)
  3. A rethink to iPhone X gestures, just do not think they all work
  4. Always on display. Not going to happen as apple wants us to buy the apple watch instead
  5. Rethink to the macbook line. It is has imo been a disjointed mess over recent years
  6. Higher quality files (maybe lossless) on apple music and improved bluetooth codecs (aptx-hd?) to support
  7. A magic mouse that you can charge and use at the same time (what were they thinking???)
  8. And my wildcard would be to take what samsung has done with dex and put it on steroids, the iPhone is powerful enough to run OSX so imagine if you could connect a mouse and keyboard and run the iPhone in an OSX mode on a TV or monitor? They could even call it iDock ;)Would potentially cannibalise mac sales though so will never happen.

Mostly I'd like apple to stop exploiting customers with over-priced peripherals that you really need (dongles on macbooks, fast charging on iPhone) and focus on making great products again. Make genuinely great products and the ££ will take care of itself.

I really want an iMac 32in” 8k and stand-alone Apple branded monitor.

I would also accept Mac desktop with Apple branded 8k monitor.

This might be unpopular:

Keep on with the MBPs. If they went down this road, keep on it. 4 USB-Cs will be enough when the accessories finally arrive. It was a further step than usual but going back would be the greatest mistake they can make.

Damn right I want to see an all-TypeC industry. I like the keyboard better than the older ones and with the 2017 model the seemingly fixed the mechanical problems. At least most of them.

I'm with you on this. Professionals have very different needs and peripherals are different. Some people use external screen all the time, some dont, some need 2 fast RAIDs ocnnected, some dont, some need midi controllers, ...
having specific port for each stupid thing is the worst you can have.
ditching legacy ports in favor of a new standard is not unlike ditching vga/dci on 2008 models, ditching optical in 2012 models, or ditching floppy almost two decades ago

In our recent What to Expect post, we covered everything we think we'll see from Apple in 2018 based on the current rumors that are circulating about the company's 2018 plans.

Three new iPhones are on the horizon, one a followup to the iPhone X, one that will serve as an "iPhone X Plus" with a larger OLED display, and one with an LCD display that will be positioned as a low to midrange device with a cheaper price tag. Apple's first smart speaker, the HomePod, will come out in 2018, and we're also expecting a revamped iPad Pro, refreshed Macs, and new software, but there's always a chance for a wildcard update or new product that will surprise us all.

A high-end modular Mac Pro, new original TV shows, AR smart glasses, and autonomous driving software are all products Apple is working on, with no official release date known. We want to hear from the MacRumors community -- what are you expecting or hoping to see Apple release in 2018?

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 12, tvOS 12, watchOS 5, or macOS 10.14? Popular wishlist items for last year included a dark mode for iOS, a customizable Control Center (which happened!), animated icons, iPhone complications, a swipe-based keyboard, offline Maps and Siri, and more.

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check out our What to Expect post to get a glimpse at the current rumors. Apple's plans for 2018 will become more clear in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering every rumor that pops up in-depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also a rich resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with so many exciting changes on the horizon for 2018, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions on what's coming.

We'd like to thank all of our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source for Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to yet another rumor-packed year in 2018.

Less courage.
More 'Think Different'.
It takes courage to think different, including ignoring every little whim of a diverse customer base.

Can’t disagree more with the notion of convergence. The macOS is optimized for a mouse or trackpad. Apple is wise to avoid the mess of Windows’ jack of all trades master of nothing approach.

I want to see an immediate move to user-replaceable batteries. Even if I need to lobby for a law.

When are people going to realize this now means lower warranties in batteries and more sales to the end user to replace batteries and finally AppleCare+ will no longer cover external batteries that are end user replaceable? Do you really want this like the old school feature phones did?

Do you really want landfills to increase as users trash no longer working batteries cause they just don’t care? Store visits complicated with users bringing in batteries to recycle cause home recycling or office recycling programs don’t include cellphone batteries?!

You haven’t thought this through but hey use your right to lobby for this. I’d rather battery battery life and technologies for new wave of batteries and more open communication of throttling and end users ability to disable this.

I want to see a less pretentious, less arrogant brand. No more grandiose stores flaunting a Beverly Hills attitude. A focus on utility rather than amusements. In other words, no more “Designed in California (for Californians)”.

So you want Apple to make products and services that earn the respect of the user and the industry that shows they just work. You want Apple to return to their golden years for quality of great products and not just the BS lip service being fed to us. You want Apple to return to being Apple first, not a brand first. I want this too.

I agree.

using ipad pro as an input source/external screen via cabled connection however is a nobrainer.

i'd like an iphone you can dock like the samsung DeX Docking station.
You can dock the iphone on a monitor and you get a more mac OS experience with document editing, notes, etc like this

Maybe a mini mac OS

☛ Mac Mini
☛ 4/5K--Display (dislike non-Apple brand, sorry!!!)
☛ iPhone SE 2
☛ Apple Pay and Apple Pay Cash worldwide (e.g. in Germany & the Netherlands)

I know..I know...(Nitpicking), but it would be better to say "new iPhone SE", the way you say it now is like:

iPhone second edition 2 or iPhone (5) 2-2

;)

Phone calls to stop taking up the entire screen when a call comes in (if desired by user). A simple pull down notification will do.

Man you’re on point with everything you said but THIS! When typing something on my iPhone and a call comes in sometimes like a brat I’m ready to have an uncontrollable fit or throw my phone yet resolve to inexplicatives and wait until ringing stops. I don’t want to be rude to some people by sending them to vm. They’ll just call back again & again.

You do realize this is the third time an Android experience like this has been tried right? Sorry 4th.

Motorola tried twice.
HP once - they no longer make an Android phone btw.
And now Samsung.

AppleTV does a good job in a sense if you just want a bigger screen. Yet for keyboard & mouse control we still wait for all functions to arrive. Apple wants you to buy an iPad. (Funny Siri intelligence predicted every word after Apple in my last sentence)
