Lol ok. You obviously don’t recall 2000/2001 Titanium PowerBook G4 with its pricing exactly matching the 15” 2016/7 MacBook Pro’s.

If you read my later post(s) you could have seen I meant just a few years before.
And yes, I remember those years, that's when I bought my Powerbook G3 just before the new ones came out, I paid half the earlier price.

Not only that, top model 15" (without upgrades) were something like €2400-€2500 just a few years ago, so just a few years ago they were €800 cheaper.
Next time I buy one in Hongkong I guess, it's just about €1000 less than here in Europe.

Looking at many of the responses here, I am starting to understand why so many people are so mad at Apple. Assuming their desires are legitimate, they want what Apple obviously cannot and will not provide. Is it delusion that makes them clamour for a laptop with older ports despite knowing full well the direction is headed in.

Then how about consistent ports across all of your devices? The iPad and iPhone have only the Lightning port. Computers have only USB, and depending on the model, only a few of those. Apple has obviously made a decision that the future of interconnectivity between Apple products is wireless, but right now wireless is slower, sometimes a lot slower, picture and data files are getting larger, the interface (Airplay or just wireless connectivity) is not reliably automatic and can fail during transfer and 3rd party hardware/software doesn't support Apples versions of wireless connectivity. Its too Apple proprietary.

Mac mini! An upgradable Mac mini, seriously lets not try to win a design award and just give the long suffering Apple fans a Mac mini.

The combination of Apple's "everything should be super thin and sleek" design approach and its balance sheet greed is killing the Mac!!

Still don't understand the "Garbage Can" Mac Pro?!? That thing just made no sense

It's a next gen UI and potentially the platform to rule all platforms.

Personally, as a daily user of Siri for my Homekit devices and also sports and weather, I can't think of any device I own where I would want the UI to be only based on voice control. I not only like, but need, a GUI, not just a UI, or a VUI as you seem to suggest. Voice is good for short commands -- turn on the lights, wake me up at 5 a.m., what is my thermostat set at?, did the Braves win? (of course not, why did I even ask.). But operating a device is more complicated than those kind of commands.

A device operating solely with a VUI rather than a GUI to me is tantamount to going back to DOS where the user had to memorize so many commands to be productive with the computer. That is why the Lisa and then Mac were so revolutionary - people hated and were intimidated by DOS and Apple's GUI gave them an accessible way to use a computer and be productive without the tyranny of commands.

I like being able to go into my Ecobee app or the thermostat itself and setting up routines visually. I would not like to have to speak all of them and then hear Siri or some other voice read it back to confirm. Time waster. I'm sure you've been forced to use a company's VUI phone system to route you to to a human. That is essentially a VUI. No on likes that or wants it for their personal device. But I do like being able to ask Siri what my thermostat is set on or to tell her to lower or raise the temp without going into an app. Siri is best this way, as an alternative input device, not the central UI.

My wish is a new MacBook Pro this winter/spring:
- Updated CPU's (AMD cpu's seems to have the best performance currently btw..)
- Longer lasting battery
- Stop inflating the price?
- "Make Mac Great Again For Devs"
It seems this has been given up, development packages have gotten less attention over last 8 year. It's kind of ok it's not a focus to do everything natively anymore, but then at least make sure Docker/VM's works properly with shared folders on Mac so we don't get forced to abandon ship.
- Related: Possibility to upgrade to 32Gb RAM

I happen to own the 2016 13" w/Touch Bar model. There's nothing wrong with it. What do you want to see changed?

Lots of people have been complaining over the last year about the late 2016 and mid 2017 on the keyboard, the battery, dongles, ....

One out of many: http://www.sazzy.co.uk/the-new-macbook-pro-with-touchbar/

iGirlfriend ...but with not less than iOS 11.5 :) ...and an iPhone X with also fingerprint (back? So Apple Pay is faster and can be used in a dark environment), Apple Music with dark UI so it’s not damaging your sleep if you use it late at night), without notch (please find another way to differentiate your design), and a faster better easier gesture for closing apps and see the open apps. The rest is amazing, can’t wait for the HomePod.

- A new MacBook Pro 13" without Touch Bar with Quad Core and better integrated graphics (Hopefully with a 10nm CPU)

- Speedier and more stable operating systems, a lighter macOS and iOS with zero lag, 60fps animations and without performance issues on older (and newer) devices.

- A new base iPad 2018 and iPad mini 2018 both with an A11 SoC, same form factor, and aggressive price points.

- A new MacMini 2018, with same form factor (or even smaller), and a powerful Quad Core inside, with dedicated graphics option, and a reasonable price point.

- A new iPhone SE with an A11 SoC. I'd ask a new form factor with same size and more screen, but I know that's unlikely to happen :(

And double down on your focus for usability.

This is one data point of course, but just heard a best buy phone rep tell a customer, "get an iPhone if you're committed to figuring it all out - it's complicated. get brand 'y' if you just want to use the smart phone."

I understand all the Tim Cook frustration, but if you think about it, without him we would not have as many cool products. I’m sure Steve would have thought up some incredible things, but that’s not reality.
Without Cook I honestly don’t think we’d have the awesome that was iPad Air 2, iPad Pro, and other great products. I do feel Cook has overpriced and made Apple more “niche” or “the rich kids club” than a company that builds great devices at good prices, cares about customers, and has real interest in listening to consumers.

Apple has strayed from the good path they were on a few years ago, but it isn’t Cook that’s responsibly only... investors and the board are the people who push or pull him in stupid directions, (yes he’s made stupid decisions all by himself) but it’s foolish to think he’s responsible for single every bad decision. Apple isn’t a socialist or monarchy company, he’s not king who decides everything. He’s got the biggest say in things besides the board, but that’s it. He’s NOT a god.

1.) Apple needs to allow downgrading.
2.) Being more open about features that affect everyone.
3.) Dropping price by quite WILL gain more customers which will make Apple even bigger.

*Hard to do with technology being so great as it is but...
4.) Some classic out of the box innovation Apple used to do.

An iPad Pro with Face ID and full screen display. Apple could probably increase larger iPad Pro to 14” display and smaller to 11”.

I would like to see Apple Watch with FaceTime camera and capability to view Notes.

Assuming their desires are legitimate

Same to you, buddy.

they want what Apple obviously cannot and will not provide

Can but will not.

There's the famous quote from Gretzky GOAT about "I skate to where the puck is going."

Apple delusion and hubris sez "Wherever we skate, the puck will magically and magnetically come to us."

Reality sez: the customers decide where the puck is going. And many, many underserved professional users are deciding to head to the door marked Exit Apple Ecosystem.

Now, if you've drowned in the Apple Kool-Aid, this is happening because professional users want the wrong things, damn them, their business needs aren't "legitimate," and they should just sit down and shut up and eat whatever Apple feeds them, end of story.

Out here in reality, only an Apple that had deeply lost touch with the professional user could have let the Mac Pro stagnate for years, come up with such an infamously inept MacBook Pro line-up in 2016 and the panic dongle-discounts that immediately followed all the bad press, and been forced last April by the enormous pro backlash to pre-announce by *years* that they blew it catastrophically on the pro desktop, that the dog ate their homework, and they are starting all over again as of a couple weeks before their announcement.

A nice fat check for 10 million made out to every poster here signed by Tim Cook.

Actually, it can be as thin a check as Jony Ive could possibly want, as long as it's for 10 million.

A real TV screen with FaceID and
True Depth that allows people to throw away the remote and use your hands instead.

In our recent What to Expect post, we covered everything we think we'll see from Apple in 2018 based on the current rumors that are circulating about the company's 2018 plans.

Three new iPhones are on the horizon, one a followup to the iPhone X, one that will serve as an "iPhone X Plus" with a larger OLED display, and one with an LCD display that will be positioned as a low to midrange device with a cheaper price tag. Apple's first smart speaker, the HomePod, will come out in 2018, and we're also expecting a revamped iPad Pro, refreshed Macs, and new software, but there's always a chance for a wildcard update or new product that will surprise us all.

A high-end modular Mac Pro, new original TV shows, AR smart glasses, and autonomous driving software are all products Apple is working on, with no official release date known. We want to hear from the MacRumors community -- what are you expecting or hoping to see Apple release in 2018?

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 12, tvOS 12, watchOS 5, or macOS 10.14? Popular wishlist items for last year included a dark mode for iOS, a customizable Control Center (which happened!), animated icons, iPhone complications, a swipe-based keyboard, offline Maps and Siri, and more.

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check out our What to Expect post to get a glimpse at the current rumors. Apple's plans for 2018 will become more clear in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering every rumor that pops up in-depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also a rich resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with so many exciting changes on the horizon for 2018, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions on what's coming.

We'd like to thank all of our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source for Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to yet another rumor-packed year in 2018.

A tower with nothing special but a case by apple, fully upgradable with any hardware. Full macOS abilities without a special motherboard and loads of standards, maybe allow the purchase of an add in m.2 slot that enables any PC with one to run MacOS. I feel like MacOS needs to be open, it's unimportant compared to iOS sales but is genuinely a lovely OS over Windows. Mac hardware will still sell as it's the hardware people want NOT the software.

I'd love to see apple invest in getting games onto their systems, like adding graphics cards like the 1060 1070 and 1080 to all their systems, especially MacBooks. Working out standards with games makers to allow direct porting of windows games or a way to run them natively as windows apps.

It'd be nice to have a larger iPhone X+ with a smaller notch.

I want to see...

• New Mac Mini (doesn't matter what is in it, because anything will be better than the 2014)
• New Monitor
• New Base Station
• New Mac Pro
• BETTER MacBook
• Better iPhone X that worked out the kinks
• Cheaper basic iPad for $259 or less

+++ NEW iMACS, which will certainly be here in June or July, but I hope they have a new Intel processor that isn't a year old or so. The i7-9770K would be nice, but trying to make sense of Intel's current roadmap and release schedule is weirder than the titles they are giving their processors... will gen 9 be Kaby, Coffee, or Cannon? Or whisky? Or Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Make it 6 cores with 12 threads, please. I want fast, and I need a new computer soon.

A new iMac design might be nice, but not necessary. Give us more options and cheaper everything (yeah, right). I'm expecting a new design when the 10nm+ chips get into iMacs--2019/2020 perhaps.

Hang in there! Apple has done an about face a few times!

I have been one of the folks who upgraded every other year and I am not price sensitive. But I have stopped, and might switch away from being an all-Apple household after 15 years. Here is what I want.

1. A pro laptop, with lots of memory and the ports that I am actually using (I know, Apple won't bring them back), which include USB 3, HDMI and SD. Most importantly, I need the return of good keyboards; the current generation is unbearably loud, hard, and cannot deal with dust. And I don't care for the gimmicky touch bar.
I hope that my current MBP lasts me until Apple finds their way again and rediscovers how to make a keyboard; right now an upgrade feels too much like a downgrade.

2. An iPhone without a notch and Face ID but a large display and a headphone port. Touch ID works perfect for me, and I listen to music on good headphones a lot. My 6s will probably die this year, and I expect that I will switch to Android.

I agree! We need to bring back the 17" MBP! Photographers love them in the studio to review the lighting & formatting of what they are shooting digitally. 13" & 15" are just to small. They also want a matte finish screen to combat the glare of the studio lighting. This system should follow what the 15" offers for performance & ports.

The MBP 15" is the workhorse in the field! This is by far the linchpin of the portable systems. This is the one which they need to offer the best CPU & GPU possible given its size. For sure gobs or RAM & storage (RAID) both upgradable. 2-USB-A, 2-USB-C, SD card, Ethernet & MagSafe ports. More/bigger battery support.

The MBP 13" should follow what the 15" offers as best it can given its size limitations.

I love the new butterfly keyboard. The crisp, short throws make for even faster typing. Trying to type on my old MBP feels like my fingers are pushing into mashed potatoes.
Did you mention that when you originally bought your old MBP? Did you also complain about having a phone jack on your pre-iPhone 7 phones? If so, Apple listened to you.

I’ve never had a problem with iPhone battery life. I set up a multi port usb charging station at work for the other guys on my crew, and it’s always the android users using it before lunch. I don’t even use it unless we are working in a poor cell reception zone. Usually go home after 14hr work day with 30%.
Well aren't you fortunate - apparently, many others don't share your experience. That's why the battery replacement policy has been changed.

1. A new Macbook Pro
- 32+GB memory option (upgradeable would be a charme)
- Replaceable SSD (pro users brake those things)
- state of the art GPU for AR/VR
- SD Slot (more ports in general)
- Touch Bar optional
- better Keyboard
- matte display
=> Will we see a true "pro" with Xeon processor and upgradeable hw components?

2. Mac Pro
modular and upgradeable - nothing more to say

3. iPhone XI
- bring back TouchID to the iPhone. FaceID is nice but it sucks too often.
