Screen size. 4" is the sweet spot for me. I had a Galaxy Nexus for about 3 weeks thinking I really wanted something "bigger". The whole time I owned it, I was thinking I really wanted the S3 and that would be my next phone.

This was after owning an iPhone for the last 3 years. I loved the Nexus. Jelly Bean was smooth, rooting and installing custom roms was a blast. I felt I was really in geekland playing around with it.

At the end of the day, I was loving and hating the larger screen. It really felt like I could only use it two handed. One handed use was a real pain. Moving my thumb between the home button and the notification bar one handed was nearly impossible. I couldn't imagine going even larger to the S3.

So there it is for me. The iPhone 5 and its 4" screen has hit the sweet spot for me.

My brother has a S3. Held it for a few seconds, and immediately realized it was way too big for my hands. It just feels awkward to hold with one hand...

I don't have a single reason: it's kinds 2-part.
I've grown to hate Sammy products for their low quality materials and hardware. And Android never felt finished. Ever.

I had a 3GS, then a couple of Samsung phones running Android. After 10 months I got the iPhone 4 and was thrilled to be back having a quality product.

I have two main reasons... Trust and reliability.

A lot of the things that I see people getting excited over with the Android phones are actually things that I find kind of creepy. I've found Google to be drifting away from the 'don't be evil' mantra, imo - I deleted all my search history with them and don't use Google + because I realised just how far into my life one company was drifting. Simply put, I don't trust Google to be the OS that I have on my phone. 'Google Now' actually kind of creeps me out because I just don't know/don't trust how much of that 'where you are now' info will be getting back to them.

With Apple, I know I'm the customer. They're not trying to sell ads targeted to me. Google's the same as Facebook - I'm not the customer, I'm the product.

Reliability - I love knowing that I can get Applecare + and also just walk in to my local Apple store to have someone help me and even swap my phone. That's huge because I've worked in the wireless industry and had friends who waited forever to get their phones fixed.

Most people here bought it solely for the reason that if you look at the back of the phone.. there is an Apple logo on it.

Same reason I've chosen every iPhone in the past its the best phone for me and my needs and wants period

This exact reason for me also. Considered the s3- but with the apple devices I already had plus everything I wanted from s3 I could get from iPhone 5 plus more. Was a moment of weakness that was shortly fixed.

You know what's sad? The S3 is like 50 years old in phone years. The Samsung Note 2 is actually a better phone than the S3. The Note 2 is like a S3 pumped on steroids. Just look on www.phonearena.com. I wouldn't even recommend an S3 until people see the Note 2. It's not for everyone but if you contemplating a 4.8 inch display why not go all out.

"The 5.5” 16:9 HD Super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy Note II is better than the 4.8-incher on the S III in every category imaginable but pixel density."

"When we couple the more powerful processor with Android Jelly Bean’s interface optimizations, the Note II comes superior in UI fluidity and app performance, which will hold at least until the GS III gets updated, too."

"When it comes to loudspeaker performance in playing music, the Note II wins hands down, with one of the most powerful speakers we’ve heard on a smartphone, which on top of that doesn’t sound flat, and outputs pretty clean sound, even at the highest volume."

"Needless to say, the larger 3,100mAh battery on the Note II, should make a difference compared to the 2,100mAh unit on the S III, regardless of the screen size."

"The stylus in the Note II is much improved in comparison with the original - it has a more ergonomic grip now, and the new technology inside allows you to leave faster and smoother ink trace. Moreover, the S Pen has learned new tricks now, too, with the most intriguing one being Air View, which brings up previews of emails, image galleries and button labels when you hover over them."

How does one even put something that big in ones pocket?

Build quality
Faster
Better apps
Great integration with my Mac, iPad, and Apple TV
Ability to consume upgrades without hacking the phone
Android's interface looks like crap

I loved my iPod Touch and wanted something similar in a phone.

I was open to buying an Android but 9 times out of 10 the display models have a sticker instead of a working screen. I bought one Android based on reviews that I returned the same day it arrived in the mail.

So, buying experience sealed the deal: I had months to go into the Apple Store and play with the iPhone to be sure that it was right for me. No fake phones and no one harassing me every 30 seconds.

ETA: didn't notice the part about the S3 and answered for iPhone in general. #1 reason on that front would be size. I thought the S3 was a Note when I saw it at BestBuy.

They have to make it huge so they can cram all their off the shelf hardware into it along with a battery big enough to run it. Apple's 4 inch display on the iPhone is much more impressive considering the performance and battery life it has. Samsung is unable engineer a phone this size to compete with the iPhone, hence giant screens are their only way of competing.

ecosystem... with several apple products, keeping music/playlists in sync across devices is awesome. plus itunes has the ability to create smart playlists that automatically sync to my devices, something that i never found a way to do on android. itunes match alone made me want to stick with the iphone.

everytime i have ever gotten an android phone its been bad experence after bad experence and every iphone ive ever had ive never had an issue with.... so iphone is always the winner for me.

iCloud OTA sync for iCal, contacts etc.
I had MobileMe previously and at one stage tried swapping to Google Backup sync with a Samsung and almost smashed everything in an angry rage.

iOS and its natural integration with my Macs, AppleTVs and iPad. Oh, and I also own a Galaxy S3 (white, 16GB, running CM10 w/ Nexus soft key mod). I told myself I wasn't going to buy an iPhone 5. Didn't last long.

Now to get a nanoSIM to microSIM adapter...
