HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... I have only seen the previews and from that alone, the movie looked off the wall. However, I still want to watch it only because the scenes that I have seen look fun.

Yeah, fun and off the wall is a good way to describe it. The more I think about it the more I'm sure it was exactly what the doctor ordered yesterday, a good way to clear a clouded head.

Been running thru classics I never watched:

Sean Connery James Bond movies
Casablanca
Bullitt

Next up is Gone with the Wind

Also introduced my daughter to newer/cult classics like Titanic and Fight Club

Most recently, we went through the masochistic exercise of Doubt and Gone Girl. Both anger-inducing movies for me.

I was extremely bored last night and struggling to find something to watch. Then I noticed that Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) had been added to Netflix recently, so I thought what the heck and watched that.

Utterly ridiculous, and equally entertaining. Full of physics that would be out of place in even most video games, but for what (I hope) they were going for, they nailed it. The most baffling thing is that even at a whopping 135 minutes it really didn't feel all that long, then again it's not like there were long stretches of dialogue or anything else in the way of lulls in the movie, mostly just explosions, car chases, fist fights, witty quips and just general mayhem. One thing I do regret is watching this for the first time completely sober.
This movie is not my typical fair but I actually enjoyed it in all it’s over the top ridiculousness. All the actors are charismatic and made for entertaining characters. Favorite moment is when Hobbs is “assigned” the alias of
Mike Oxmall.

Congo (1995)- I need to re-read this Michael Crichton novel which I liked a lot. A King Solomon’s Mines story. The movie is ok, it’s a haphazard, light adventure story loosely based on the book, some might say far fetched situations, that got hammered by the critics and audience at Rotten Tomatoes 29% probably by readers of the book who did not like said changes. Yet it is very much in tone with The Mummy (1999) where the audience gave it a 75% like. Comparing the two, The Mummy is a better composed and executed story.

Movies about ‘prison life’ has always interested me and what it takes to actually find your place to survive amongst the most violent offenders in society.

The storyline is as follows, a man is driving home intoxicated and is convicted of manslaughter after a car accident, and ultimately he ends up in prison, but converts into the gang life in prison where he rises in the ranks to become a gang member.

The movie itself has great acting and is brutally violent at times, but it’s meant to be, to give the viewer a perspective of how cold these prisoners are, and why some of the most violent offenders in the U.S are housed in California. The movie itself was filmed partially at Cochran state Prison.

Totally recommend this type of film if it’s in your genre of liking.

This is indeed a good one. Check out Felon, too, if you haven't already.

Earlier today while scrolling through Netflix I came upon a little gem of a movie called The Block Island Sound (2020). Hadn't heard a peep about it and didn't even check out the trailer, just dove right in. It was really good. The IMDb score has me somewhat befuddled, but it is what it is. For what it's worth, I rated it an 8/10.

An atmospheric slow burn of a horror movie that looks as good as it sounds. All the principal actors (not many of them in this one) do a fantastic job and the story is interesting with a few really creepy sequences sprinkled in, in addition to the constant feeling of dread that's omnipresent and wonderfully amplified by the unnerving score. The plot deals with strange phenomena happening on Block Island, such as dead fish appearing on the beach by the ton and birds that fly directly into windshields of cars. Humans seem to be affected as well.

Definitely one of the better surprises when it comes to movies I've had for a good while.

Loved The Mummy, great movie.

About 40 minutes into it, the "Major Major in his office" scene... I've seen this film about 10 times and I've never noticed the picture behind his desk changing until watching last night. FDR, then Churchill, then Stalin... funny. Now I've got to watch the commentary version to see what was going on...

ooops! I forgot to include the link ... ^

The Da Vinci Code (2006)- I like the book and the movie, the author is clever enough to weave a narrative which feels real, although it is not, which sprinkles some truths among many fictional ideas, to weave a decent story. Now the book was pinged for poor writing, but simple me, I was impressed how the author managed to end each chapter with a revelation. :D

The story centers on the search for the Holy Grail, which is not what you think it is. It’s Opus Dei vs Knights Templar and Priory of Scion. (Note: Knights Templar was also big in another fictional story, National Treasure which uses the same methodology to tell it’s fictional story.)

In this story people are murdered to hide a revelation which could shake the faith of Christianity. I should not say more, and I’ll be damned if that person sitting to the right of Jesus in the Last Supper does not look a lot like a woman. But Leonardo, the painter is said to have his differences with the church. :)

My disappointment is that
a descendant of Christ is found, but nothing is resolved, status quo as far as Christianity is concerned, the viewer is just let in on this secret.

The book was very good, the movie wasn’t bad but not as good as the book.

If you haven't already check out "Bronson" with Tom Hardy playing the lead character. Or another one that is good, is "American Me". While it is an older film, it is pretty darn good. Last one, I promise, check out "Bad Boys" with Sean Penn. Good film.

Watched the new cut of "Justice League" aka the Snyder Cut. I won't spoil anything, but to me it really didn't improve upon the story we have already seen. Yes there is some additional footage... I will leave it at that for now.
