Where do you live if you don't mind me asking? I thought ISP data caps were a thing of the past.
Arizona. No with the dissolve of Title II of Net Neutrality the big cable companies have brought them back and are rolling them out to more and more states. Cox, Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon FiOS, have all brought data caps back to consumer broadband internet and all of them have plans to roll them out to every state they're involved with. So if it hasn't hit you yet keep an eye out cause it's just a matter of time. So far Business broadband accounts aren't affected.

Ah Apple, it is so sad to see what you have become:
this year's keynote promises to be the most exciting we've seen since the larger-screened iPhones came out in 2014.

The most exciting and yet by all accounts it is nothing more than a complete rip off of Samsung's recent phones. Anyone else long for the days when Apple was the innovator or at bare minimum made features function better than anyone else?

Not sure where you have been living, but honestly ISP data caps are expanding rapidly, but there is an EASY way to get around them:
Sign up for a business level internet plan, it will usually run about $10 to $20 more than the equivalent consumer plan, but has not data caps and no, you don't have to have a business to get it, just use your name as your business name. This works for ISP that I know of.

Business accounts really can't be affected, they would simply go somewhere else because they must have data, just be aware that you don't have to actually run a business to get a business broadband account.

I like how you all know what is coming out on Tuesday. What everything looks like how its going to work what time it is going to come out all based off of rumors and people that think they know what is going. Do any of you work for Apple Inc. I don't think so how about everybody wait until 1PM EST and you will know exactly what is to be released. Everybody calm yourself.

With luck Directv Now will offer them. Personally not upgrading mine unless there is some mind blowing feature my current hardware can’t support. 4k.... eh.

Well, I've long known where you are on this topic. Maybe you'll be one of the few that remains consistent even after Apple officially announces them.

A bit late on this. I no longer have interest in 4K content now that ISPs have started monthly data caps. 3 two hour movies will destroy your monthly allotment. Had to turn 4K off on Netflix as well. Lame

A 4K:apple:TV doesn't force 4K on anyone... nor only plays 4K. Anyone facing such obstacles can play whatever they opt to play now (the 1080p option? the 720p option? SD?) at it's fullest. That's the magic of improved hardware: it can handle lessor software demands to it's fullest.

It also comes with hardware CAPABLE of "more," which will show in everything else one can do with an :apple:TV. Why do we crave faster Macs if the software remains basically the same? Why do we desire more powerful "A" chips in iDevices if the software remains basically the same? So why not wish for more powerful :apple:TV hardware too?

Lastly, I shoot my own 4K (lots of sports). It doesn't burn one byte against a broadband quota when streamed from the home network. Everyone with an iPhone can shoot 4K and do the same. In short: there are more options here than ONLY streaming 4K and ONLY streaming it from some distant server.

Love 4K or hate it... but a new :apple:TV brings better, faster hardware to do every other thing too.

I won't upgrade my Apple TV unless Apple replaces the horrible Apple TV 4 remote with something that is actually usable.

Question is: what's been the trend on timing between announcement to shipping day for apple TVs? Are they generally available soon after?

I'm not sure normally, but last time you couldn't get the Apple TV (4) until Oct. 30th.
But it was pretty widely available at the time, I preordered but I think it was at the local Best Buy before I got my delivery.

Off topic but yesterday I tried to play the game on the DirecTV Now app on Apple TV and it refused due to "licensing for mobile devices." DirecTV Now continues to underwhelm me with their service.

I'm still not digging these mockups as a beautiful, must-have device. Let's hope Apple pull it out of the bag again

I'm interested in Apple Tv. I wonder if Apple will follow other tech companies. With non sense like HDCP2.2. How will the h265 codec imbedded into Itunes? Will Iphone 4K video play on other hdcp 2.2 devices?

I would say a lot of this...

along with Ive saying 'ALUMINUM" about a hundred times.

but hope they talk about an iPhone in between all of that.

:)

Love that video. Hahaha.

Jonny would say ALUMINIUM because that's how we say it (and spell it) this side of the pond (in the UK where he's from). If he said ALUMINUM it would sound ridiculous because that's not how we pronounce it here. Both ways are correct. Ours is just more correct than yours. Hahahah.

Even the headline reporting is astounding:

Redesigned iPhone, LTE Apple Watch and 4K Apple TV

LTE Apple Watch implies a soon to be released IoT headless device is coming soon. World's smallest internet connected computer with local Bluetooth connection (or utility USB? port) to the end use. LTE5 coming soon.

I agree but I think that will come later, if it does (which I hope it does). I think 3 new iPhones (7S, 7S Plus, iPhoneNotchyNotch) on one day will be enough without adding the confusion of another one that still looks like an older one but is being updated to the specs of a far less old one (that is itself being replaced by a newer one that looks the same as the last one but isn't the highest specc'ed device being announced). See what I mean? :D
Totally. On the other hand, is an opportunity to present a full, cogent, updated iPhone lineup: the fancy, the two-sized work horses, and the small, all with legit circuitry. Want the newest & jazziest (and don't mind ditching Touch ID)? Get the 8. What a highly capable (A10?) but smaller phone without the fanciest camera? Get the SE. Everyone else get the 7S/+. (On the other hand, updating the whole lineup now would mean more time between update announcements, and heaven forbid is a long time between update announcements.)

Of course, all of this prayer is being colored by the fact that I am currently rocking a 6 with a broken GPS chip, and I really don't want the SE I think I'll have to buy this month to be obsolete in only a year.

i will be pleasantly surprised if thenew Atv is reasonably priced and under $200 - which is still too much.

The whole 4K thing is still overall a cluster****. I just bought a new 4K tv with HDR and Wide color gamut and I still haven't watched anything that uses those.

Comcast has dropped most of their channels to 720p. They hide it from you because on the X1 you can select the resolution that is sent to your display, but they don't tell you what the source is. The only reason I know this is that I have a TiVo box as well and almost all the channels are actually 720p content.

As you point out, the only way to utilize the 4K AppleTV is going to be by streaming or downloading and a quality non-compressed file is going to be huuuuuuge.

Comcast/NBC/Universal is a monopoly in many markets that should be broken up like the Bell System.
They are also trying to destroy ATSC 3.0 and FREE TV over the air in the US.
But they have more money in peoples pockets than anybody, even Apple! :(

Additionally, my HDTV will show me the resolution of each channel. The Box from Comcast lies, but my TV rats them out. Complaining will do no good to a monopoly. In this market, there is no Verizon FIOS or any other broadband. :(

I just think it's hysterically funny that no one here is the least concerned about UNLOCKING the iPhone 8 without TouchID while driving. Regardless of what the law is in any state, we know people do it every day.

How will this possibly not be catastrophic using Face or Iris SCAN while driving? I'm open to ideas.
Will the phone recognize you in profile form the adjacent seat? Something else?
Holding the phone up to your face while driving will be an epic fail!
I can see the Samsung commercials now, starring Toonces The Cat That Could Drive! LOL

It's that awkward moment when you realize you're the only person in the room that realizes someone left a nasty fart.
Are the fanboys just too afraid to admit it?

So what does 4k apple tv mean?I have a 4k tv and appletv4, what can i do with this one

Anyone else feel like the iPhone 8 won't be ready until later this year?

I have Comcast and technically they have always had caps, but told subscribers that they were not being enforced. About a year ago, they notified us that they would begin enforcing the caps. We have a 1TB limit and I live in Utah.

Seems like it's quite common in the US. I live in the UK and it's now a lot rarer to find ISPs that actually have data usage limit these days. It's normal to assume that the usage is unlimited. There are some ISPs here that adopt smart traffic management which can affect your speed at peak usage times, but other than that we don't hear of data caps for home broadband. Heck, even my cell data plan is truly unlimited 4G with decent speeds.

I bet Apple launches a tv subscription to go along with the new appletv. The only reason this probably isn't true is it absolutely would have leaked from someone in the Hollywood crowd. No way that many content players keep it a secret.

Honest to god, all I want is a massive update to iWork, particularly on the iPad.
