The dutch guys sticking together. Would be a shame to think that it might be the same person...I mean what are the odds that both of those accounts are Macrumors 6502a? hmmmmm....
I don't know Geert76 but you can credit the Dutchies for not following Apple blindly. We keep an objective eye on what's on the market, compare and look at price.

Correction, the note is faster than iPhone 7 plus. See YouTube. Better apps? Google maps, google now and everything google beats Apple these days. If Apple was only using a bit more of its profits for future investments and not so greedy on margins we should have a much nicer phone.
Actually, I did check YouTube and the iPhone 7 killed the Note 8. A year old phone was either faster or had the same speed. This is why I cannot switch, iOS manages resources so well!

You are right. You got me busted there, Sherlock Holmes

Sure, and that is why you even replied with one minutes diverence...but that is probably also a coincidence, huh?

That. And Apple will further advance the lead with the A11 chip. Guess Samsung didn't want their phones to explode...

And it's not even close. Samsung can throw all the specs at it that they want, iOS will always be better. Even on year old hardware.

And when this year's iPhones come out, there won't even be a comparison.

Then why is the overall ui speed of iOS is still much slower than s8/note8. E.g scrolling, transition

It's not. You can use the same video above for reference. Animations are different, but just as quick and smooth. Everything loads much faster on the iPhone, with year old hardware. It's impressive that iOS still can't be beat.

I used the app far longer time after it loaded up... and you have to put up with the lethargic ios ui speed esp slow animation and scrolling speed.

the animations are slower to make 100% sure that they are smooth. That is why Apple invented Promotion. The scrolling is much faster on the new iPads.

One of the things I am the most stoked about the iPhone 8, is the near bezel-less display. Radically different in design, radiant, I could go on and on! I was so excited until I saw my friends phone that I thought was an iPhone 8 for a fraction of a second, but later was told it was a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus!

http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/galaxy-s8/

This is the first time I've been to this website, and I look at this and think to myself... InfinityEdge display... this is.. like what the iPhone 8 is supposed to/going to be for it's "more expensive release model"? Feeling the phone in the hand and interacting with the screen, I was seriously impressed with the display, much moreso than my current iPhone. I now think to myself, if the iPhone 8 is releasing soon and it does not meed and exceed expectations, this Samsung Galaxy phone is actually a viable alternative!

Now here is the question... what will the iPhone 8 have over the Samsung Galaxy 8 Plus? Someone help me get excited about the iPhone 8 so I can stop dreaming about how this Samsung phone looks almost perfect (not liking the fingerprint sensor on the back). Help me with kindling I need to be excited for the new iPhone!

Do you seriously expect to formulate an informed opinion before Apples unveiling next week?

Why don't you wait till then before posting this question.

Those speed tests are a complete waste of time. Just some idiot opening apps for 2 mins in the real world it would be different

But still slow on iPhone (even with iOS 11). Every time I use iPhone, it feels like everything is in slow motion compared to android. For people who have never venture out of apple iPhone, they think smooth is fast but it is the opposite.

The fastest animations are no animatione. :D

Well, that might be true, but I never expected that so I am surprised other did. All I have to say is, that I want Apple to take all the time they need. I'd rather have a great phone a year later then some butchered version of it a year earlier.
Why are you surprised? We had the iPhone 6 in 2014, a 6S in 2015 and the 7 in 2016 which was a facelift iPhone 6S with a headphone jack missing. I think a lot of people were expecting the new first edition model last year as it was due. The pattern was changed completely.

For people like me who were due an upgrade last year it messed everything up. I ended up getting a 6S because the 7 shot up in price and in my opinion wasn't as good an upgrade from the 6 as the 6S for the money. Now 12 months later I'm half way through my contract and Apple decide to release the new models. Not everybody can upgrade every year and I know a lot of people who will not be able to take advantage of this years release due to Apple delaying things by 12 months. The extra kick in the teeth is the premium they are slapping on this overdue iPhone. It leaves a rather bitter taste.

The fastest animations are no animatione. :D

On my S7 Edge, I have animation scale and duration scale set to 0.5x. The lowest setting other than turning animation completely off. The phone does not stutter and animations are very fast. That's one of the things about Android. Don't like something? Change it. Out of the box, animations were slow (set to 1.5x if I remember correctly). Now, they are super fast because I could change it. I can turn them off completely if I want and make the phone even faster. Does iOS have the ability for the user to change animation scale and duration or turn it off all together?

Having used iPhones since the beginning and also the latest Galaxy offerings (S6, S7 Edge, S8+) I'll give my $0.02.

The two biggest advantages the iPhone 8 will have over S8+ in my opinion are:

1. iOS - This one is pretty obvious but a phone either has iOS or it doesn't and the S8+ doesn't and never will. If you are an iOS fan this immediately puts the 8 ahead of the S8+. I still believe iOS is more polished than Android in general and I prefer it to Android. However, this gap shortens every year but there is still a gap in my opinion.

2. Apps - I prefer the Apps on iOS over Android. They look better and function better. It's funny how some Google apps look and work better on iOS than Android.

3. Camera - We obviously haven't seen the iPhone 8 yet so this one might change but I prefer the iPhone 7 Plus camera to the S8+ camera, even if it is not by much. There is some about the iPhone camera that is just very appealing. Produces accurate colors and very clear shots in light and dark conditions. The S8+ is very as well so this is close but I'd like to think the iPhone 8 will improve on the 7 Plus and I already preferred that one. Oh and dual camera helps too with some shots.

4. Apple Watch - if you have an enjoy an Apple Watch it's obvious why the iPhone 8 will be the better choice.

I can't comment on hardware until I see it but I expect the new iPhones to be very aesthetically pleasing. We have seen some shots of what we think is the iPhone 8 but the professional shots Apple releases for their website will be a thing of beauty I'm sure.

That's one of the things about Android. Don't like something? Change it.

I agree, but until Android has the apps I need and use at the same quality level as on iOS, I'll stay with iOS. I try an Android flagship every couple of years, though.

Yes, they do.

These arguments are sortof ridiculous. People explain why after years of buying Apple products they are considering competitors products (as am I). I think somebody even said that Apple is only 6 months behind with oled edge displays. Which the 7edge had.

There's no denying that Apple will sell a ton of iPhone 8s. But this is the second year I'm considering switching over. I'm hesitant because it's simply a pain to switch platforms. But comparing a Note 8 and an iPhone 8 (rumors, I know) I'm not sure how people can justify the iPhone having the same price. Mock ups still show the horrendous camera bump on the iPhone as well..

I get it, I love iPhone too. Since the 3G it has just worked for me. But it has not been seamless since the 6. I had issues with that and the 6S.

People actually see the fingerprint sensor on the galaxy and Note as a negative? Isn't it better to have it as an option!? You don't have to use it but I'd rather it be there. How can just the software justify a $1k price tag, unless they are adding way more than rumored.

The Note has a comparable camera, retina scanning, fp sensor, stylus, SD card, on top of the same oled edge displays and wireless charging. Ditch the stylus for galaxy and you're way under the $1k price.

Competition drives innovation. I'm glad to see both manufacturers pushing forward.

Isn’t the Note $930? That’s not far off from where Apple will price the new iPhone. For $70 you get... better OS, better performance (A11), better cameras, better security (3D facial scanning), better app ecosystem, and better customer support. I am sure I am missing a lot. I agree though, it’s kind of a silly argument because hardware will become less important and it will all come down to software, ecosystem, security, and support. I think Apple is stronger in those aspects so that is where I invest my money.
