Isn’t the Note $930? That’s not far off from where Apple will price the new iPhone. For $70 you get... better OS, better performance (A11), better cameras, better security (3D facial scanning), better app ecosystem, and better customer support. I am sure I am missing a lot. I agree though, it’s kind of a silly argument because hardware will become less important and it will all come down to software, ecosystem, security, and support. I think Apple is stronger in those aspects so that is where I invest my money.
The Note 8 has expandable storage. The iPhone 8 comes with effectively 58gb of storage with no expansion.

My point was sort of the opposite. That the iPhone should be cheaper. Better OS is subjective, better performance is also (although I would likely agree), cameras are likely a wash as reviews seem to love the Note camera, not sure I'd agree that the security is better, the last two you are right.

From everything we've seen of the iPhone 8, I'd prefer the note 8. That's mostly because of the screen size. My 7+ at 5.5 inches is still not big enough for me. I was excited when I learned that iPhone 8 will have a 5.8 inch screen, but then saw that it wasn't as wide as the current plus models and I kinda had the wind let out of my sails. I guess it's still possible that apple has been able to hide a larger version of the 8/edition/x coming out, but I doubt it.

The only thing holding me off of samsung is that complete garbage operating system.

I don't blame apple too much in this. I think they wanted to make an additional iPhone X in a large size, but samsung wouldn't supply the panels and is keeping their production for their own line only. Part of the reason why apple is pursuing LG for OLED panels so aggressively.

Yea I reread and I saw you mentioned ditching the stylus and going cheaper. I don’t find it to be too expensive considering I use the device everyday. It comes out to like $1.40 per day for me. Security is easily better in my eyes. The face scanner was tricked by a picture and Android has security issues almost monthly. I group privacy in there as well.

58gb is nowhere close to enough for my music library. The Note 8 can fit it all which means the value is much more than$70.

That’s fine, totally up to you when it comes to value. For me, I stream and don’t need to have every song I own downloaded and with me at all times.

I'm not saying the price is to high for a phone. It clearly is, lol, but I'll buy something anyway because I'm a nerd. But what are you getting for your money? What did Apple add this time to raise the price?? But, let's talk about the security. So far, nothing is perfect. There are ways around touchid and retina scanning. Until faceid comes out we won't know how hard it'll be to fake. But, what if.. what if it doesn't work as perfectly as Apple hopes, what if it doesn't work in low light or darkness? What if people don't like having to put the phone near a terminal for Apple Pay while also trying to aim it at their face...? Why not provide touchid on the back as a secondary system? Placement would be inconvenient but function over form for once Apple.

For an extra $6 per month or $0.20 per day I am getting an upgraded screen, upgraded processor, better camera, 3D facial recognition, new design, wireless charging, and probably a few more things I’m not aware of or thinking of. To me, that’s worth it. For my main electronic device that is with me at all times and that I use everyday, I have no issue paying an extra $0.20 per day. Yes, nothing is perfect when it comes to security, but I am confident in Apple’s ability to implement Face ID. People had the same concerns with Touch ID and now people can’t live without it. My hope is that the face scanning is unnoticeable to the end user while providing a constant layer of security. I think Touch ID on the back of the device would be a step backward in useability while Face ID could be a better solution to biometric security.

You're rationalization for the extra cost is flawed as the 7S will have many of those things for less money. The new iPhone 8 or whatever should have remained the same price. Typically you get a technology increase for the same cost as last years model. This year is different. And how could implementing touchid on the back in addition to faceid to give people options depending upon the situation be a step back in security?

Would touchid embedded in the screen be a step back? That was what Apple intended if they could make it happen. And if it's implemented on the 8s the townspeople will rejoice.

Sure, you could say that, but my rationalization is my opinion and my personal preference. If I want to pay $0.20 for the best phone out there, I will. It's a step back in usability because it is not nearly as convenient to use, based on the location of the sensor. If they were able to implement into the screen, it would be essentially the same to me and not a step back in usability. I don't think they will be bringing it back as I see Face ID as a better solution. Again, this is my opinion and where I choose to invest my money. It's a platform that I trust and see the highest upside in the future based on a few things. Software, security, privacy, ecosystem, and support.

I'm not sure why anyone is discussing this with DNichter. He clearly loves Apple and won't even consider another option, which is fine, but most of the arguments simply don't hold water unless you blindly follow one company. Personal preferences are one thing, but you can't explain away everything with it.

That may be the case. I was the same way a few years ago. You'd have to pry my iPhone 5s from my cold dead hands. My infatuation with Apple has been fading for a few years. Who knows, maybe they will surprise me. That is why I haven't ordered a Note yet. I am interested in seeing what they offer, but the 7 was the most underwhelming 'upgrade' I've seen yet.. which will make the next one seem better than it may actually be.

My Apple Watch is another story. For some reason I love this darn thing. I have no idea what I'd replace it with.

Samsung doesn't have the same level of performance (A10 or A11), but you could argue the rest potentially. It comes down to OS preference though and I prefer iOS over Android for a number of reasons.

I feel like I have been pretty open to seeing both sides. I think Samsung puts out great hardware, albeit with a few flaws (mainly around their biometrics as of late). I really liked the S8 hardware, but I just prefer iOS over Android. It's not really blind when I am pretty clear why I prefer one over the other. It just comes down to preference, nothing wrong with going the Android route, just not for me.

My point is, you use your personal preference to discuss options people are speaking of, so even if the S8+ did your laundry and cleaned your house as well, it's not iOS and in your words, you don't want it. No point in discussing with someone who has clearly made up their mind, regardless of what the other option has to offer.

I use my personal preference to discuss options people are speaking of? I am not sure I follow what you mean by this. I responded to the OP's question. Isn't that what the forums are for?

Your financial situation regarding this phone is not the same as everybody else's. The tiny amount you claim to be expecting to pay is certainly a lot less than I would have to and I use my iPhone everyday for business and pleasure. What something is worth is very subjective and an iPhone 8 is expected to be at least £1000 for the handset alone. The iPhone contract I am on now costs £1022 over 2 years and that includes the call, text and data package. I dread to think how much it would cost me with the new iPhone. Probably closer to £1500.

Understandable, I can only speak for myself here.

The OLED iPhone competes better with the regular S8 but even that phone can do more than any iPhone. The Note 8 is a entirely different beast with no true competition imo.

The OLED displays will surely be superior on Samsung phones, they are already properly calibrated and have full DCI P3 support, HDR, and wide color gamuts and 3 modes that can give you the most accurate and brightest displays ever.

Apple will cheapen out on their OLED displays by purchasing a older generation and making it seem amazing to your eyes. For those hoping for ProMotion which does not change the overall screen quality at all (hence the horrible iPad 10.5 yellow displays) ......you may be disappointed this year when it's not a feature and it's only truly useful with Apple pencil support. True tone will most likely be the added feature this year. No matter what, you guys will still be amazed and except anything they offer as something otherworldly.

Days are over with the comments of Android being less than iOS somehow. At this point in the game they are equal and android is making great strides. Love my s8 plus galaxy. Battery life is amazing and so is the screen. That bezel notch really kills the iPhone for me OS be damned.

Oh my...I'm sorry, but in many ways Android has been years ahead of iOS. iOS has copied many things from Android and still is not there. It kills me how people who are in the Apple ecosystem seem to think Android is playing the catch up game. It's the other way around my friend.

That's why I own the S8 plus and truly a joy the use. Feels small in the hand etc. No lagging whatsoever. I'm a fan of tech and apple really is getting sloppy here.

But I still can't get the apps I need using Android. I need the same quality and features on these apps. Until I get that, I'll stay with iOS. I know I'm being picky, but this is important to me. I don't care how much new hardware you throw at the wall.

I don't think either of them are "ahead".

Android O has only just added notification badges for example, a basic (and necessary) part of many people's OS experience. iOS doesn't have split-screen for their phones, a basic (and necessary) part of many people's OS experience.

Samsung "Experience" has feature after feature after feature that iOS doesn't have, but 99% of them no one ever uses. Does that make it a superior OS? Absolutely not lol.

"Copying", in most instances, is just a natural progression of the tech industry.

Different strokes.
