Android O has only just added notification badges for example, a basic (and necessary) part of many people's OS experience. iOS doesn't have split-screen for their phones, a basic (and necessary) part of many people's OS experience.

Uh huh...and Samsung has had them forever. Android base OS is adding things that other skins on Android has had a long time. Android is still light years ahead when it comes to customizing your phone with widgets, putting your icons wherever you want them, etc. iOS copied widgets for a widget screen and their notifications still are not on par at all.

Different strokes indeed, but I believe Android is way ahead of iOS when it comes to features and customization and iOS has copied many things from it to try and keep up.

Each have their own thing, but I don't think Android is playing the "catch up" game at all. Not even close. That was the point of my post.

Does that not then mean that Android can't even keep up with its own skins? ;)

As a side note, you really do have to use only stock Android when comparing to iOS. The plethora of companies that skin versions of Android can't be used as one collective unit against Apple/iOS. Of course 10 companies together will have "more" - but those companies will also have conflicting features and ideas of how an OS should run.

apple beat samsung in any angel

Nope. Not at all. Just means Google makes a base version and vendors build on it.

As for your comment about comparing a bunch of vendors against iOS, nope, not at all. Not doing that. My comments were only based on what Samsung has done to this point, as that is what I'm using right now.

Oh sorry, wasn't insinuating you were, I should have made that clear. I just meant in general iOS v Android discussions.

But I still can't get the apps I need using Android. I need the same quality and features on these apps. Until I get that, I'll stay with iOS. I know I'm being picky, but this is important to me. I don't care how much new hardware you throw at the wall.

All mainstream apps are there. Unless you use an obscure app, then most probably you can get equivalent.
Android apps cover a much wider spectrum and there are many applications that are available for android that are not there in iphone due to the limitations of IOS.

I don't think either of them are "ahead".

Samsung "Experience" has feature after feature after feature that iOS doesn't have, but 99% of them no one ever uses. Does that make it a superior OS? Absolutely not lol.

"Copying", in most instances, is just a natural progression of the tech industry.

Different strokes.

99%? You are kidding right? Take off your apple blinders.

Notification badge is overrated. They are spread all over your homescreens and you dont see all of them at once. Having notification icons on the status bar (and always on display) is way better.

btw: many launchers on android already supported badges ages ago.

Not true galaxy cameras have been equal or better. Touch on current Android is perfectly smooth. Your just regurgitating stuff from five years ago in regards to Android lag etc. I have 5 lines in the family and they have iPhones also. Also Samsung are close to Apple prices yes but, after this 1000 phone the gap will widen. Also lots of deals out there on galaxy s8 even note 8 where you get a few hundred off so a way better value for then the OLED iPhone which is sourced from Samsung. But Apple decided they triple charge us nah not this time.

MLB at Bat and Air Video HD are two that come to mind right away. I've never been able to see each pitch's arc and speeds on the Android version, and I've yet to find a solid, full-featured equivalent to Air Video HD.

The OLED iPhone competes better with the regular S8 but even that phone can do more than any iPhone. The Note 8 is a entirely different beast with no true competition imo.

The OLED displays will surely be superior on Samsung phones, they are already properly calibrated and have full DCI P3 support, HDR, and wide color gamuts and 3 modes that can give you the most accurate and brightest displays ever.

Apple will cheapen out on their OLED displays by purchasing a older generation and making it seem amazing to your eyes. For those hoping for ProMotion which does not change the overall screen quality at all (hence the horrible iPad 10.5 yellow displays) ......you may be disappointed this year when it's not a feature and it's only truly useful with Apple pencil support. True tone will most likely be the added feature this year. No matter what, you guys will still be amazed and except anything they offer as something otherworldly.
of course we will be amazed. just like I was amazed a year old iPhone beats an new Samsung galaxy note 8 in terms of performance. That is just humiliating for Samsung. Makes me wonder what the new iPhone will do to it. btw, enjoy your note before it starts lagging like al samsung phones with their crap skin.

That's a iOS vs Android issue in terms of OS speed and its just milliseconds with no real world value. The S8 nor the note 8 lags in real world usage. I have seen iPhone 7 plus lag on many occasions. The Note 8 has everything and is much more productive than any iPhone. Thanks I will enjoy the beast of a smartphone which is the Note 8 which is in a league of its own.

But still slow on iPhone (even with iOS 11). Every time I use iPhone, it feels like everything is in slow motion compared to android. For people who have never venture out of apple iPhone, they think smooth is fast but it is the opposite.
Well, I have used Android and I must say the animations are not very nice there either. So I guess you win some you loose some.

Where excatly have you seen a iPhone 7 Plus lag? Please be more specific. I have a iPhone 7 Plus and even on iOS 11 beta 10 it runs as smooth as butter.

Not sure where all this nonsense about lag on the s8 comes from..i can only assume it's from die hard Apple fans who've read articles on the net and not experienced it personally..its kind if boring now!

I've had the s8+ since release and had zero lag issues. Runs as fast as the day I set it up. However, I have had lag issues with my iPad mini 4, nothing major but a few issues now and then.

If you want to talk about lag issues try updating a 2-3 year old iPhone with a new release if iOS..! That's where I can honestly say I've experienced lag issues! I personally think that this is done deliberately by Apple to frustrate users and try to force them to upgrade to a newer model!

Anyway, I'm in no way sided with one camp or the other, just stating my own personal experiences of using both OS's. If the new iPhone is something spectacular then I would be very tempted to try it.

and what does the note run? Android, no? and indeed, the note 8 and S8 do not lag much out of the box, it takes a few months. btw, try swiping left to get to bixby and see how it lags. in terms of hardware samsung is great (except for that placement of the fingerprint-sensor) but it is the software they just not seem to get right.

comparing a new S8 with a 3 year old iPhone is just not fair. at least the iPhone even gets updates after 2 years. I got a few friends with the S8, and the ones that use their phones intensive start to see lag. try going to the bixby screen.

You SPEAK THE TRUTH........

Air Video seems like super-duper on Iphone, but it may just be much-ado-about nothing on android.

on android you can
- map to the PC drive and play off it.
- use built-in like samsung connect/dlna without needing to do any additional setup
- something like vlc
- plug the portable/thumb drive to phone directly and play video off it

Those are all fine, but my needs go beyond merely playing back video from a PC or a thumb drive.

The only advantage Android has over iOS is customization. I used to enjoy things like that, probably still would if it were available on iOS, but there are far more important things when it comes to a platform.

Right? I HATE notification badges. I turn them off. They are so annoying to me. I especially hate that dumb blue badge that appears whenever an app is updated. I much prefer status bar notifications.

Oh my...I'm sorry, but in many ways Android has been years ahead of iOS. iOS has copied many things from Android and still is not there. It kills me how people who are in the Apple ecosystem seem to think Android is playing the catch up game. It's the other way around my friend.

actually both have been copying many things from each other for the last few years. and both have pretty much everything you need.

Oreo and iOS 11 are both pretty boring updates, IMHO.

its really mostly up to personal preference. i'm happy with both of them. and i always miss a few things when i switch from one to another.

but i do prefer the way apple handles my data. i don't even want to know how much data google has collected about me, which is basically their main business.

and i hate to hear about new android versions and having to wait months to get them. (even just weeks are hell for me)
i always install updates on day one, if i can.

Does Samsung have a patent on InfinityEdge? Is it possible for Apple to have "InfinityEdge" like edges without having to pay Samsung $$$?

Good question as I was hoping for the new iPhone to have infinity edge also. I bet apple will do it down the line as another lure to upgrade.
