No amount of reading is going to convince anyone. You have to see and touch Hermes leather to appreciate the quality.
Nothing wrong with that! I have no desire to buy Hermes bags, nice leather but the designs don't do anything for me. Their saddle, though -- I want that, even though I have no horse to go with it.
While I agree the leather is very nice on the Hermès, I don't think it's $400 nice. Apple charges $550 for the 42mm watch. That means the 42mm single store band is $600. There is no way Hermès leather is worth $600. Sorry that is just nuts.
Now onto your car analogy. It really does not work at all. With the Apple Watch SS and the Hermès, you are getting the same watch just a different band. It's more like getting a Merc with the added premium leather package. It's the exact same car just with some added bonus. Just like in the car world, those premiums are way over priced. So is the Hermès. I am not saying it's not worth it to some, but it is really over priced leather.
Do you know the difference b/w Lexus ES 350 and a Camry? Engine? Nope. Suspension? Nope. Platform? Nope. Lexus has nicer leather and more sound padding. Lexus can also be had with more options.
Ok, Hermes band costs $600. Apple leather band costs $150. Compare apples to apples. Difference $450.
Add in there the longer warranty and unique face.
You pay for the best damn calf leather on the planet. Handmade by the best of the best. I think that i read somewhere that an artisan at Hermes can only make 12 bands in one day. That's it. And they are trained for at least one year before getting to do it on their own. Hermes is on another level in quality and reputation.
$450 (or less based on how you look at it) is affordable for those who can. There is no doubt that you do pay some for the name, but it is a well deserved name.
Look at their own watches on Hermes site. Quartz Hermes single tour runs $2500 and up. You can get Hermes Apple Watch for $1150 single tour.
Sorry, for THE top brand in leather (plus longer warranty & pretty face), $1150 is pretty good deal. IMO.

You are talking about two different bands. Yes they both fall under Toyota, but they are different bands. It's the difference between the sport and SS Apple watches. Sure you can't get almost any band for sport, but they don't look the same as the SS. The comparison is between the exact same Apple Watch with a different band and face.
A band that cost $600 is insane. There is no way it comes anywhere close to $600 to make. Heck the general markup is retail is 50%, there is no way it cost $300 to make that band. You can tell me how great the leather is all you want, it's not worth the price. It's the name Apple and Hermès. That is where those prices come from.

TAG Connected is basically a Fossil smartwatch with fancy titanium ring and rubber band. Crap-o-la in execution. Plastic bezel and back. Yet, $1500.

The Lexus has a totally different name on the outside of the car. It's a luxury brand made by Toyota just as the SS AW is a more luxurious AW than the Sport. I am not saying we should pay cost what so ever. A business has to make money. What I am saying is the markup on the Hermès has got to be much greater then the SS with a classic buckle.
I am no penny pincher. I buy nice things. I have an AW SS with the Apple link band. That is over priced too, but this idea that Hermès is the greatest leather maker in the world, and they can charge whatever they want is crazy.
The TAG connect has given TAG a bad name. I am not sure what they are doing with the that watch. The only positive is that you can buy one of there other watches for a discount in a year or something if you bring the Connect to trade in. The Hermès is a much better watch, and much closer to being worth it. Still does not make it worth the asking price.

Hermes leather band is made from the finest leather on the planet, handmade by the finest leather artisan on the planet, made in extremely limited amount, and is not made in sweatshops of China but in France. Hermes leather is meant to last a lifetime with care. It is not those throw-away leather bands after 2 years. Hermes offer services to re-conditioned it to keep it lasting. It should out-last the watch that it attaches to! All this for $600.
Geez, given a choice of Apple Link vs. Hermes, i will take Hermes 10 out of 10 times! Which one gives more class/elegance to the watch? Hermes. Which one will give Watch lasting resale value? Hermes.
Heck, even if AW goes out of style, you can still attach Hermes band to a regular watch (with lug space of 23-24mm)! Can you attach Link bracelet to anything else?
And then you add in the unique face and longer warranty (and of course, the branding on the back). No-brainer for me. You still take your Link bracelet over Hermes band?

Before I got my Hermes I used to switch off between the Classic Band, Milanese Loop and Link. Ever since, I haven't changed bands even once.
For me, I have Milanese, Sport, and now Classic Buckle Saddle Brown. I wear Classic Buckle daily now. Only when i exercise, i will use Sport. I gave Milanese to my father. Leather is just so comfy and light.
And that is about it. No more bands. The ONLY band that would make me throw more money at is if Hermes Barenia becomes available. Ideally, i would love Hermes 42 single tour, but it is impossible to find. And what do i do with my current AW?
You don't get it. Your comparison between an Apple Watch and cars just does not work. The Apple Watch just has variations of watch. It's like what I said the first time, it's like a Merc, BMW, or Porsche. Take the 3 series, there is 320, 328, and M3. All are which are a 3 series, but they have different features and added specs. How many times are you going to tell me about the Hermès being handmade, and lasting forever? I really don't care if you believe it's the best leather. Does everyone hold that same belief?
I don't know if you can say the Hermès is more elegant. A link band vs leather is a matter of option. Sure yours is hand made. That is great, and in this case may be more special but you act like its this number limited run. It's not. They made 1000s of them. Still making them. You can get a Hermès band by itself for $200 to $300. Why are the Apple ones so special?

Why do you keep repeating yourself? So you are going to keep repeating yourself until agree that the Hermès leather is the best in the world? I am not going to say that. That is very large claim that I do not believe you can back up.

Are we talking about if you are just giving me a band which one would I take? For free? I would take the link first. That is my favorite band for my AW. It fits much better then any leather band I have gotten. Maybe that is stupid, but I like the link band. Would I like the Hermès too? Sure. I would love it.
Do the Hermès watches have a number on each watch telling you which limited number watch you got? That is what a limited run is to me. They might be sold out on Apple, but they were not some numbered limited run watch. People that have one, don't have some super exclusive watch.

I will ask you again. Are Hermès watches numbered individually? Sure this was a special edition that did not see as man watches made as the normal AWs, but that does not make it a limited numbered collectible. When the AW has rumors course, so has the Hermès AW. Sure you have a leather band, but so do I. I have the classic buckle and several other bands. All of which I can use on other watches. Yours just cost 3 times as much. Still gives the actually watch the same fate the rest of them have. Dead and forgotten.

I don't know what your problem is, but please tell me where you find the single tour or any other Hermès AW band from. It's all second hand. They don't just sell them, so how would you value them? Based on how Apple and Hermès value them? Sure then the band is $600, but that is not what people are willing to pay for just the band. Find me somewhere else that someone is selling the Hermès.
I don't care what watch you have. I am simply giving you an example. Like I said if "someone" owns a Hermès, the watch will be of the same value as any other AW in 5 years. Nothing at all. The band if the only thing worth anything, and it's sure not holding it huge asking price. Normally "limited" editions or numbered items have a value that increases over time. This is just another version of the AW with a Hermès band on it. Nothing special about it. I don't think anyone claims limited when several 1000 were made.

I am not attacking the band. You have come on this section of the forum and made several post in the classic buckle and then started your own thread about calf leather. Then you come on this thread talking about how great it is. I just don't understand your obsession with the leather. Give it a rest.
I am only saying the value of the band can only be seen second hand. You asked me where you could get one, and that is the only place you can find it. The value brand new does not exist because you can get it.
I am not sure an specific number made, but all from all the articles I read, they said it did not seem that limited. So if they were as limited as you say, now they have what was left that did not sell in select Apple Stores and Hermès locations on Apple.com. Sure seems like a limited highly demanded watch to me. They could not even sell the limited supply they had.
You think a watch face and band make the Hermès this super special watch? The reason you but the Apple Watch is for the smart watch. You take away some of the best features in complications with the Hermès watch face. Again it's only special because it has the Hermès name on it.
Please don't compare the AW Hermès to Swiss watches. None of the Apple watches are anything like them, and none of them will hold their values like Swiss watches. This is technology like the iPhone you have. 5 years from now neither will be of any demand, and neither will have much value. The bands will be the only thing worth anything, and who is going to pay a premium for a 5 year old worn leather band? You can't look at these like typical time pieces. They aren't.

And this my friends is exactly the point of this stupid watch combination. It is to get people trying to justify the cost by comparing it to the finest Swiss made mechanical watches.
In reality, the competition is Android Wear and Pebble not TAG and Rolex. That's why the Apple Watch is getting discounted everywhere - it's a $300-$400 watch which they are attempting to sell at $600 by talking up the brand. Sticking some fancy leather on it and a custom face doesn't make it worth $1200. And they know it. They could care less if they sell any. It's about brand positioning, not value for money. Ignore it and hope that the price on the standard ones drops to where it should be.

Brand positioning is done with the AW EDITION, not Hermes. Hermes AW was made (IMO) to bridge the large gap b/w AW SS and Gold Edition and also to compete with other high end upcoming smartwatches (e.g. TAG Connect).
