No, of course I don't want to read CNN on my watch. But I also want to go walk around the neighborhood without having to carry my phone. And adding all the functions through bands doesn't strike me as an answer, as that would just make heavier bands instead of heavier watch. Plus, what if I wanted both GPS and extra battery. How am I going to put on two bands at once?

In any case, back to your argument that the Apple watch is meant to last longer than other Apple devices. Well, considering some people keep phones and tablets around for 3-4 years or even longer, I don't disagree with you that the first Apple gen watch would still function five years from now. But would it get the latest OS update? If you are right about the GPS accessory band, yes, something released next year would possibly work with the first gen watch. But would an accessory band released five years from now work with a first gen watch?

Good points. Will see. But for me, Apple has thought things thru about longevity of Apple Watch, which again makes sense if you're gonna sell $17,000 watches...and keep selling them! I am pretty sure that next gen Watch will have EDITION too. So, who is gonna buy that IF bmac4 is right about having a 3-5 yr shelf life?!

People like my grandmother, who, when her father offered her a choice for her wedding gift, a house, or a dress with real gold and silver threads, picked the dress. Which I think she only wore once.

Our family no longer has that kind of money, but there are always people around with that kind of money.

I don't think some people understand who the people are who bought the $17,000 edition AW. They have $17,000 to spend on something they will replace in a year. Just like they pay $100,000 for Merc, then next year get the next $100,000+ Merc. If you can afford $17,000 on a first gen product, you can afford to replace it in a year or two.

Yeah i think that you guys are underestimating the intelligence/financial mind of the wealthy. Sure, there are the Paris Hilton types...but the smarter wealthy folks are the majority.

As for your above statement about Mercs...a lot of them lease either personal or thru their business.

Hermès must be considered big money. It's the only co branded Apple item. Not even the telecoms could get it done.

Since I'm in this thread now anyway…

I'm not the market for this version. I felt way out of my league the first time I saw a four-figure price tag on a purse. A purse, which doesn't carry things any better or worse than a $10 purse from a drugstore.

I'll tell ya, though, if I can dabble in such accessories, and know that I'd be getting the best of the best, for which craftsmen expend such time and care to fabricate their passion with no shortcuts and no concessions to cheapness…

Damn straight I'd get a Hermès Watch.

I'll always wonder who approached whom. Not that such wondering would keep me up at night, but ya know.
I would think Hermès approached Apple. I would think Apple is a more well known name across the world. Hermès is great at their craft, but being matched with AW really gets their name out there.

I think that it is the opposite. Hermes is very well known among the rich and fashion. Apple wants the fashion scene and status.

Seriously give it a rest. Why are you still quoting me. We know how much you love Hermès, but be fame among the rich sure does not equal the popular of Apple around the world. How many people do you think know about Hermès that before had no idea Hermès existed? I would think a whole heck of a lot more then Hermès fans that did not know about Apple.

Why are you still in this thread since you think Hermes is so overpriced??

I have to correct your repeated mistakes!

As per The Wall Street Journal, last year, Apple Design Chief Jonathan Ive approached Hermes even before the Apple Watch was officially announced. Since then both the mega brands have been working on the design of the watch. But Ive has vehemently denied that Apple is interested in becoming an “exclusive” brand despite the Hermes collaboration.

Cool bro. Now move along. Seriously, I am done talking with you. I was merely speculating about who came to who. I never said it was fact. I did not know, so give it a rest it's really getting tired.

I can think think something is overprice and still appreciate it. I like to see what people that actually own one have to say, then someone who only goes on and on about how great it is. I was posting in this thread long before you came in here. The conversation was much better. Just move along. We would all be better for it.

Hang on a sec…

If we took out all the Thai vs bmac4 posts, how many posts would be left over? 20?
Look back when the thread first started. I was joining in the conversation just like everyone else. Nothing but nice discussion.

Sorry I have helped create this litter on here. I will back off and just discuss the Hermès. Again sorry about that.

Ok so I've read the last three pages of petty arguments and I want to weigh in with something new to discuss.

Much of the premise of thai's argument is that it's a limited watch because the single tour isn't available online in the us.

I pointed out days ago it's still readily available in other countries.

Apples supply chain management is supposed to be among the best in the world thanks to Tim and his replacement I'm sure I've seen him say is better than he was.

Which begs the question, why is it available in Asia and not the US? The only difference in contents is the warranty info (I think) and perhaps the plug, but why are they not moving inventory to other regions it could clearly sell?

Maybe there's no point with the March event coming up - I'm wondering if the hermès range will be pared down or they'll come up with something new to offer instead of the single tour? Refreshing for another season - I'm not sure if that's how hermès work with their bags or not. New finishes?

Maybe alternatively a new partnership will overshadow the hermès one. We'll see. But there must be some significance behind the availability even if it's hard to see what that significance is.

So it's much easier to get in other countries then the US? Why would they do that?

Wife says she's getting one... we have SBSS already, and she's planning on keeping that to wear at work/while in uniform. I don't see the need, honestly... especially if she's not going to sell the other one. Here's hoping for an Omega or Movado collaboration.

Side note: I wonder if we'll see Hermès edition wearers using any of the standard watch faces. Seems pointless, no? Maybe not, if all one really wanted was the strap/band.

I use the photos face sometimes.

It's only that specific SKU but yes in Hong Kong somebody could have it delivered tomorrow. Likewise I just checked back home in the UK and the 38mm single tour in fauve ships today. In China which uses the same plug as the US and is right next to Hong Kong? Not available.

Could it be something as silly as the boxes that are causing this online availability? The warranty info on devices sold in the UK is different to Asia Pacific so these are two different (on an inventory level) products linked only by the UK plug inside...

Clearly the supply is limited. You have a pot of Hermes AWs. From there, Apple divide it up to regions. Two possibilities:

1. Asia has rough time with economy (see China) and thus does not buy as much; or

2. Because Asia has been well known to love fashionable things more than other regions, Apple channeled more supplies to Asia.

It could be one or both reasons. But it is pretty clear that USA region will not see any more Hermes AW. :(

So, in HK, you can still get Barenia 42mm single tour??? Wow!

The weird part is that on eBay, you SHOULD see plenty of sellers from HK selling it on-line...but you do not...you instead see plenty of sellers from Australia!

Wow that is nuts. I really don't understand it. Oh well I am not getting it because the only way I would get it would be band only and that is not happening.

Can you check 42mm Barenia double tour and cuff?? I think that Asia folks like these models more than single tour.

No, the 38mm. But as you said both are sold out elsewhere.

Cuff ships in 1-3 weeks as do both S/M and the Large size of the 38mm double tour.

Yeah, 38 mm Barenia went out 2 weeks ago here in USA.

But, yeah, you guys are not getting anymore 42mm Barenia single tour. So, the supplies are LIMITED for sure. 1-3 weeks shipping means that the supply is extremely low and has to come from other regions.

I need to move to Australia it seems!!
